If you’re looking for the kind of story about a naïve virgin who doesn’t like alcohol, scrunches her nose at cigarettes, or doesn’t believe vampires exist…this isn’t the story for you.Oh, vampires? I know they exist because I had the displeasure of meeting some when I was a kid. Don’t worry, they’re all dead.I’m not a kid anymore. I’m a red-blooded woman with a “glamorous” bartending job at a … “glamorous” bartending job at a place called After Midnight, and I thought fangers were but a distant memory. Until he walked in. Tall, pale, and far too handsome for his own undead good. Between the insults tossed back and forth, caught gazes and fleeting touches that made my skin electrify as much as it made it crawl…he came with a warning. An unwanted visitor was on its way to town, and my name had been whispered in passing. With a name like Freya, it was hard to forget.
This time around I have friends to help me keep the arrogant vampire at arm’s length…or at least neck’s length. Not to mention any other creepy crawlies who emerge from the night. I may be nocturnal, but I’ll be damned if I ever let the night claim me.
IRRESISTIBLE DEMISE is the first in the After Midnight series. It is an adult romance with adults (and other creatures) who get into adult situations. 😉

This book was a nice surprise for me. I liked the original premise of the supernatural world, and even though werewolves and vampires have been written together for a long time, this has a refreshing fresh take. The characters are well matched up, including the snarky heroine and her friends. When she re-encounters vampires (and werewolves) she is tossed into the middle of a storm that no one knows why she is a target, but the vampire Marcus and the werewolf pack come to a truce to protect her and her friends. This part was very unclear in the beginning, as to why she was drawing so much attention and why the supernaturals wanted to protect her. The mystery does show itself, and it’s actually a fun ride getting there. The chemistry between Marcus and Freya works well.
This book has some good action, a fun dialog at times and some smoldering scenes and I’m glad I took the chance on it. 4.5 Stars
I’m so glad that I chose to read Irresistible Demise. I ordered this book as soon as it was released but didn’t have a chance to read it until recently, on the ever important Leap year. It is a fast paced, fun and sexy vampire read! Freya is a strong FMC with some great BFFs and even better chemistry with the mysterious Marcus. I really liked the back story Spade provided for vampires in this novel, I found it pretty unique. This book does say After Midnight #1 however it does not end in a cliffhanger, which I was delighted to see. I look forward to the next book in the series and am intrigued as to where the story will take us next.
A vampire romance to die for
I really did love this book. Freya’s humour, her devotion to her friends, the push and pull between her and Marcus. I always enjoy a badass heroine who won’t back down… Speaking of Marcus, oh my gosh, he was swoony! Yup, I loved him.
I really enjoyed the way Spade brought new elements to a vampire romance. It felt fresh and unique. I’ve not read paranormal romances in a long while and I’m so glad I picked this one up.
This vampire novel has a few unexpected twists and turns that keep you reading. From the first page, this book is quick paced and full of action. The characters are realistic but yet entertaining. Add this book to your list. I promise, you will enjoy it.
Need a great PNR? Then look no further! I enjoyed this book from start to finish. Action packed! Paranormal creatures! Love in the unlikely of times. I look forward to this series and more on what other preternatural creatures there are in this world.
The Slayer and the Vampire. Isn’t that always the story? But Spade does it in such a way that it feels new again. This is a truly captivating book that steals your attention from the first page. I can’t wait to see what is in store for book 2. My only complaint? I wish it had been longer, I loved living in the world for a while, and didn’t want it to end.
Bartender Freya (FMC) has had run ins with Vampires in the past which have scarred her both inside and out. So when one (Marcus) walks into where she works what starts as distrust, put downs and death attempts ends up to be something completely unexpected. As well as opening her eyes to other supernaturals. The banter between Freya and Marcus is both funny and steamy. They both play off against each other. Loved that. Also the friendship, compassion and love between Freya, Adam and Rose its a great relationship to read. Funny in parts too. A brilliant read but im wondering if there will be more books featuring these guys? Id definitely read them
I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed reading this book by author Carly Spade. To say it’s the first book I read by her and definitely won’t be my last. One of my favorite genres to read its paranormal so when started to read this book i was definitely hook from page one. The story evolves around Freya, she is an orphan who lost her family to vampires at a very young age, she grew up always looking around her shoulder because of her traumatic past. Now she is a badass bartender in the city of Pittsburg who has two best friends Rose and Adam (which I really love because they have Freya’s back ). Everything changes for Freya one night when Mr. Mysterios, tall, dark and handsome shows up at her bar. Marcus is an ancient vampire that has come to the city because of rumors he had heard about something bad coming its way. The slow burn hot tension that Marcus and Freya have is . It makes me wish for a vampire just like Marcus in my life. And why I say this you might ask? well let me tell you its been a long time since a read about a vampire that its all for doing the right thing and that is hot. Besides vampires, you get to met this cool “skin walkers”, learn about some history and learned about an ancient curse that involves a not so nice goddess. So for me this book was a paranormal heaven, it involves everything I love a paranormal novel and I can’t wait for whats to come next in this series.
I loved this fun, witty, sometimes dangerous, vampire romance.
Years ago, Freya learned the truth about vampires. With her guards down after so many years, she suddenly finds herself thrust into the middle of a supernatural malstrom with no solution except to trust the one man every instinct has taught her to be wary of.
I loved the way Freya was a bit sarcastic with a tough edge, because underneath it was a soul steeped in loyalty and love for those dearest to her. She might walk and talk tough, but she often found herself rambling or saying the wrong thing, stumbling while doing it. She was a total firecracker and her interactions with her friends were so much fun.
We don’t get a chance to know Marcus’ thoughts and that hindered my ability to connect with him as fully as I did Freya. This is a relatively slow burn without a lot of steam and without his point of view I struggled to fully understand his character.
However, that didn’t stop me from enjoying the heck out of all the drama and danger that circled Freya. This is filled with plenty of action and lots of vampires. Overall, a very nice read that kept me engaged.
Wow. First things first I hadn’t read a paranormal novel in a long time. Second this is my first ever Read By Carly, and let me tell you I enjoyed it very much. We Have Freya who is bad ass Heroine with a sassy sarcastic mouth. And mysterious & serious Marcus who Freya hates even tho she thinks he’s sexy. We get humor, action, witty banter(My Favorite) fight scenes and some smexy scenes. The secondary characters were fabulous as well. All around a great read.
Thank you @Carly for providing me with and ARC in exchange for an honest review.
