Iron Master is book twelve in the Shifters Unbound series by Jennifer Ashley.
I adore and love returning to the Shifters Unbound world. I was captured by book one and look forward to each new installment. If your thinking about picking up this series then I recommend reading in order. Theirs an overall ARC that is carried out and progress in each novel; besides getting a new couple with each new book.
Peigi and Stuart were a long time coming. If you’ve been following the series then you see these two in the background dancing around each other, but now it’s their time to find love.
These two where so awkward and clearly smitten with each other, but not sure how to take things to the next level. It was fun to see everyone in Shiftertowns say “about time”. The cubs, and where their a lot featured, where just so adorable and cute. I loved having them. They added to the story and you got to see how Stuart and Peigi each interacted with their adoptive cubs.
Many previous couples and characters were incorporated and someone from Dylan’s clan pops ups and you are wondering what is he doing in Faeire.
The unexpected adventure into Faeire was interesting and Ben, oh my, what we learn is shocking.
Iron Master was another wonderful adventure into the Shifters Unbound series.

Jennifer Ashley’s Shifters are always a treat to read, this one especially. We get the story of exiled Dark Fae Stuart Reid and his adventures with Kodiak Bear shifter Peigi. Both of these creatures are rescuers and have huge loving hearts. Both have been hurt by others they were living with. This story is of Reid making peace with his past in the Fae Realm and finding his home. Peigi heals from her trauma and bests her tormentor. Together they find their strength lies in being a team. I had so much fun experiencing their adventures through this story and learning what’s going on in the fae realm. Bonus in this book is a revisit to the sentient house in New Orleans and a great visit with the goblin Ben and learning more of his story.
The story starts with Reid hearing a fae voice calling him for help. He’s been living in Peigi’s house helping out with her 6 orphaned cubs living with her. He works for Diego’s DX Security company catching bad guys and stopping violence. The shifter community is uneasy with his presence because he’s a hated fae, the race that created Shifters to be their Battle Beast slaves. Within the fae there is two sects, Reid’s dokk alfar or dark fae, and hoch alfar or high fae. These two sects are at war with each other. The balance is now uneven because a talisman, the karmsyern or iron guard, has been stolen, presumably by the hoch alfar so they can invade the dokk alfar territory. The other conflict brewing is the hoch alfar is recruiting shifters to be their battle beasts from the human realm. Shifters escaped to the human realm after their war for freedom. Lion Shifter Dylan Morrissey is preparing the shifters for war that he sees coming with the hoch alfar and seeking an alliance with the dokk alfar.
Peigi was one of the mates of a rogue shifter, Miguel, we read about in a previous book. She and the cubs she was helping care for were rescued and relocated to the Las Vegas Shifter town led by Eric. She’s been slowly healing and coming to care deeply for Stuart. When he decides to answer the call from fae she won’t let him do it alone. Together through their adventures they come to realize their love and working as a team. We see Peg best Miguel/Michael and find her confidence & strength.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
eh..staring in the middle of a series did not endear me. not good as a stand alone.
Not up to the norm.
I love this series so much, one of my favorites. And I think this series gets even better with every book. We fiiiinnnaalllyyyyyyy get Stuart and Peigi’s book. If you are like me, I have been waiting for this book f-o-r-e-v-e-r…seriously, forever. And clearly doing so “patiently”. The chemistry and love these two have is worth the wait.
Stuart is a Fae, that has been locked out of his home realm, Faerie, by another faerie people, that want to conquer and rule everyone and everything…everywhere. I know, I know…ain’t nobody got time for that. Peigi is a bear shifter that the shifter clan Stuart resides with saved from a feral shifter. Stuart has his own room at Peigi’s and helps her take care of six cubs from the rescue. So, if that’s not true love, I don’t know what is. Their story takes them back to Faerie, where we find out what a truly badass Stuart is, and how you do not mess with a female bears mate…cause that sh*t is real. These two together are an amazing and unstoppable team.
This was a safe read. With an amazing badass couple, and their adorable cubs. We get to see my Alpha Dylan, Ben, the Haunted House, and a lot of our other favorites from past books. I love this series so much and always, always want more….nowish. So great. #BookCrackSeries
A great paranormal romance series
I’m so excited that Stuart and Peigi, finally, have their story. These two damaged beings have worked together to raise 6 orphan cubs, all orphaned during a horrifying even in Mexico.
Stuart is from another world. Peigi is a survivor of the Mexico event. Drawn towards each other, but each afraid to reach out.
Being pulled into Stuart’s old world becomes a mission to save Stuart’s people and the time they need to reveal their feelings.
I always enjoy these stories. Read them fast but I don’t want them to end. It’s scary but sweet.
Stuart Reid is a Dark Fae Iron Master with the rare ability to make iron do his bidding in the Fae world. However, he was exiled from his world and now lives in the human world in the Las Vegas Shiftertown. He stays with Peigi, a bear shifter, and six orphaned shifter Cubs who were all rescued from a shifter who was up to no good. When Stuart’s people send him a call for help, Peigi isn’t about to let him go alone.
I have loved this series from the beginning and this book is no exception. I really enjoyed following Peigi and Stuart. The book’s well-written with well-rounded characters, some of whom you’ll like and others you won’t. I was hooked on this story from the start and kept intrigued until the end. I’m really hoping that there’s more to come in this series. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order.
I loved this series from Pride Mates on. Some books are excellent! Some are okay. This one has a great story, but I found the romance kind of boring. There wasn’t any great emotional moments really, just proclaiming what everyone knew, so it just kind of let me down. Though I did like Reid’s badass self flinging iron around Faerie!
I have been waiting a long time for Reid’s story. And it was amazing. Would love to have more. It was neat watching Peigi come into her own. Lovely story.
Finally! Two of my favorite characters come together in a story filled with love and adventure against the backdrop of hate and bigotry. Exiled Dark Fae Stuart Reid has lived and worked among the shifters for years now helping where he can while trying to find his way home. Peigi is a female bear shifter who was among the rescued abused shifters that found themselves in the Vegas Shiftertown. Peigi has taken in six orphaned shifter cubs and they’ve begun the journey to healing.
This is a story of two lonely people who find home in each others arms all while fighting off those who want them to do harm or want to harm them because they might do them harm. This book made me laugh, cry and sigh. A terrific addition to the series.
Fantastic series!

Jennifer Ashley’s Shifters Unbound series has a variety of supernatural beings – shifters, fae, goblins, goddesses, and more. Some of these groups are in conflict, some in active war, and some just don’t like the others. The shifters have their own clans, hierarchy, and rules. Humans, for the most part, treat shifters abominably, forcing them to wear collars, and live in designated shifter towns without many of the modern conveniences taken for granted. Though this world and its characters have developed over many books, each can stand alone, as details are given which explain what’s happening without retelling any previous stories.
Peigi is a bear shifter who has been rescued from years of living under the domination of another bear shifter, Miguel. Now welcomed as part of the Las Vegas Shiftertown, Peigi has started to come into her own. She spends her time caring for six orphaned cubs, who look at her as a loving mother figure. The man who played a big part in her rescue, Stuart Reid, now lives in Peigi’s house, helping with the cubs, working a security job, and helping the shifter leaders as needed. Stuart is not a shifter, he is Fae, but was exiled from his own world, and now is forced to live in the human realm. For a long time, Peigi and Stuart have been yearning for each other, but it seems that every time one of them makes a move toward a relationship, some obstacle comes into their path.
Stuart, though still outcast from his homeland of Faerie, receives an urgent message requesting him to help his people. While in Faerie, Stuart was an Iron Master, one who could make any iron object do his will. His branch of fae had an iron talisman, one which provided a large measure of protection from their enemies, and it’s now been stolen. Stuart finds that he’s unable to turn his back on his own people, and decides that he will help them. Peigi is determined to accompany him, and Stuart welcomes her help and her company.
IRON MASTER is a page turning combination of romance, fantasy, and action. A combination of supernatural beings do battle, while Stuart and Peigi finally give in to their passion and love. Stuart has hidden his great strength while living in Shiftertown, but in Faerie, he lets loose, becoming a force to be reckoned with. Peigi, too, has grown so much from the abused creature she used to be. When she finally faces her former captor, Miguel, it’s amazing to watch her turn the tables and dominate him both physically and mentally. Stuart glories in her strength, and is the type of man who would never want to stifle her abilities. I admit to being a little skeptical at first about a female bear shifter being sexy and feminine, but in her human form, she’s beautiful and perfect for Stuart. There is never a dull moment in IRON MASTER, yet the tender romance and passion is never overshadowed. The love and care the shifters have for each other oftentimes puts humanity to shame. I love this book, and recommend it, as well as the whole series, for readers who enjoy adventure and fantasy along with a great romance.
