I enjoyed Susan James’s other books–the romance and the fantasy elements–time travel and magic. I recognized early on in Irish Magic that she really hit her stride. This is the one where all those elements, the intriguing characters, the humor, and the romance come together so beautifully that the story flows effortlessly and the reader enjoys a heck of a ride. This is the perfect escapist literature. Suspend your disbelief and take a trip to Ireland with a writer, a doctor, and a leprechaun–you’ll be charmed by the setting and the story. And I bet you’ll be inspired to make the trip again and again. Highly recommend.
Put a little magic in your life. Susan B. James has written a charming love story brought to you from the Emerald Isles. Kate and Michael may not know what’s good for them, but a bit of a mischief-maker leprechaun named Bradley Flynn is going to turn their lives upside down. Make a wish on a four-leaf clover and you might just get what you asked for or maybe more. A lovely story that will go down as smooth as Irish whiskey and have you wishing you’d meet a leprechaun or a small-town doctor.
I loved this story. Bradley is a devious leprechaun who has a job to do. He needs Kate & Michael to fall in love. Their paths are twined together but circumstances keep interfering. A story full of magic, friendship & love. The author did a great job with the characters. I loved it. A must read.
Kate and Michael’s story is sweet. Both characters have bad luck when it comes to relationships but that quickly changes with a wee bit of help. I easily got swept up in their magical adventure. It’s was exciting and captivating. I look forward to listening to more from this author.
Is there any such thing as true love? What happens when you wish on a four leaf clover? Maybe it’s fate for Kate and Michael after many chance meetings, but just maybe it’s the luck of the Irish!
This is a fun rom-com by Susan B. James. I loved all the vivid descriptions of all of the locations in Ireland… they brought back so many fond memories of a trip I had taken many years ago.
Stephanie Rose did an incredible job with the narration. She fluidly switched between male and female characters as well as the different accents. Listening to this story was a very enjoyable experience.

perfect for St Patrick’s day
A beautiful, well written and well narrated love story – perfect for this time of year when the luck of the Irish is in the air. But is is luck or magic for Kate and Michael. Both have had a hard time of it when it comes to love but a leprechaun named Bradly is assigned Kate’s heart wish – after wishing on a four leaf clover but his hands are tied so he calls in re-enforcements in the name of matchmaker Essie O’Callaghan. The four meet and continue to intermingle their way thru Ireland where Michael is open to his love match and Kate is scared to admit her secret want of a true and forever love.
I loved these characters, all the main characters as well as supporting. Lots of character growth throughout. Bradly kept me on my toes and you’ll find yourself at times going back and forth between team Bradly and team Michael for Kate – but in the end the matchmaker knows…

The setting is lush and gorgeous, portraying Ireland in a magical light. The threesome in the foreground present enjoyable romantic tension as two suitors seem to woo the unsuspecting romance novelist who has given up on love. These two guys are insanely jealous of each other, but wait! One of them ends up as her “brother from another mother” and is just protecting her. It’s a set-up for some very funny moments. I enjoyed the lore of the matchmaking festival and the way it draws in the skeptics as well as the true believers. There’s a mega-happy ending with love literally in the air and wishes granted. Call it blarney if you wish, but most people are fools for love when you come down to it. Suspend your disbelief and enjoy a romp in the shamrocks. I received an ARC and wrote an honest review.
An Enchanting magical funny romance!
I absolutely fell in love with this enchanting magical funny romance. Author Susan B James creates an endearing tale of a host of characters bound for Ireland, each with their own agenda’s (written in stone). Only someone as wise and cunning as a Leprechaun (posing as a NYC Publisher) could produce such mayhem and magic. I loved the characters and never could figure what was going to happen next. Enjoy the foibles of a cast of enchanting Celtic characters as they set out on a mission to bring Kate and Michael together while exploring the beauty and lore of the Emerald Isle.
If you are looking for a romance and a vacation trip all in one, I highly recommend Irish Magic!
Kate writes historical romances, imaginary stories that take place in colorful Ireland and not in gritty NYC where she lives. Finishing her newest romance has become super difficult when the guy she had thought was the man of her dreams turns out to be a louse. Being hurt and vowing never to fall in love again has resulted in full-on debilitating writer’s block. With her rent due and everything in her life turning from bleak to worse, Kate still has maintained a penchant for whimsy, and so she wishes on a four-leaf clover for help.
Next thing she knows, Brad appears in her life. Half-leprechaun and half-human (and with issues on his own) Brad is sent to grant Kate’s wish. With a wee-bit of magic and a ton of his natural blarney, Brad convinces Kate that a trip to Ireland will be the key to her finding romantic inspiration…for her book.
In Ireland, Kate meets Michael. He is handsome, smart, and a doctor! But he is also nursing his own wounds from a recent break-up and has no interest in being anyone’s hero, even though, he has to admit be finds Kate beguiling.
With the backdrop of traveling place-to-place in lovely Ireland, Kate and Michael begin the tentative steps of healing their hearts and finding true love in each other’s arms.
I belong to the same writer’s group as Ms. James. I’ve read her book on the understanding I would provide a fair and honest review.
I received an ARC of this book. As a fan of all things Irish, I found this to be a very satisfying read. Well-developed characters, a great sense of place and a story that kept me turning the pages.

This is the first book by this Author that I have read, and I will be looking for more by her. Dr. Michael Walshe and Kate Carnahan’s story has magic that Bradley Flynn, CEO of Abbey Public Relations and retired matchmaker Essie O’Callaghan will have to nudge to get these two together. Once I started this book I was not putting it down, a well written story with a very good storyline and pages that flowed smoothly from page to page. Light and funny, Irish Magic is a feel good romance sprinkled with a bit of magic. The story follows Kate, a romance novelist whose muse (and boyfriend) turned out to be a dud. She’s feeling a little jaded about love and now finds herself struggling to finish her latest book. Michael is a sexy and newly single doctor whose girlfriend cheated. Neither one is in a good place emotionally, but as they travel to Ireland separately and continue bumping into each other, they have to question whether there is more than luck on their side. Throw in a part-leprechaun and some good old Irish magic, and this couple finds themselves fated to be together.
The writing is so light that it’s easy to read quickly, and the characters are all likeable. I was definitely rooting for Michael and Kate to get together, though I will admit that I would’ve liked a shorter journey to getting there. The magic subplot, though interesting, took away from time spent with the couple and overshadowed the romance at times. I think that if it had been pared down a bit, I would’ve enjoyed the book more but it’s certainly not a bad read. If you’re looking for a feel good book and don’t mind subplots about Ireland thrown in, then this might be the book for you.
