In the winter of 1951, a storyteller, the last practitioner of an honored, centuries-old tradition, arrives at the home of nine-year-old Ronan O’Mara in the Irish countryside. For three wonderful evenings, the old gentleman enthralls his assembled local audience with narratives of foolish kings, fabled saints, and Ireland’s enduring accomplishments before moving on. But these nights change young … young Ronan forever, setting him on a years-long pursuit of the elusive, itinerant storyteller and the glorious tales that are no less than the saga of his tenacious and extraordinary isle.

I thought it an excellent novel, a beautiful story told with great warmth and wit. Extremely satisfied with this one.
Have not finished it. Found it slow but I enjoyed the stories so far
i rarely quit on a book but I did quit on this one. To much detail.
A wonderful story that incorporated Irish mythology. I Look forward to reading more of his books.
I enjoyed this book as much as any book that I have ever read.
Frank Delaney is a wonderful author.
He has made me put visiting Ireland on my bucket list. I listened to the audio book, for which he serves as reader.
I was absolutely entranced!
Two main characters are a young boy named Ronan, and an old man who is the last itinerant storyteller in Ireland. Ronan becomes convinced that the storyteller’s tales are meant especially for him and when the man leaves abruptly, Ronan is distraught. I really enjoyed the stories Ronan collects while searching for the storyteller, and following …
Warm & heartfelt
historical references were interesting
One of my favorite books of all time–a real journey through history, myth, and the human experience.
A great read on Ireland. Very informative.
One of my favorite books.
Not just the high points any tourist discovers about that Emerald Isle
I enjoyed the myths, legends, and simple history that was folded into a fine narrative about a young boy growing up in search of an old man storyteller (who is the one relating the myths, legends, and histories). Ronan also discovers his own family’s deep secret. Beautiful …
Loved this book!
the use of stories as a guide to Ireland was exceptional.
A wonderful view of Irish history, through very believable characters.
It is a bit long with multiple stories. I have known some story telles who go on and on & a drugery to listen to. Others may tell a story in the same amount of time, but you enjoy the whole thing. I must admit, I did not enjoy the length of the many stories, because of the way presented. Some were better than others.
Entertaining explanation of Irish legends, heroes and myths.
I Enjoyed this tale enormously!
Fun at times, but mostly boring,
I got tired of reading it. I can’t remember the last time I didn’t finish a book but I really lost the desire to finish this one.
