Christmas books are some of my very favorite books! I love that this book was set around Christmas, but it’s not really about Christmas. It really can be read at any time.
I loved Xander and Sammy in this one. Neither of them was overly sure about themselves. Xander has retired from football and isn’t sure what to do with his life. Sammy is working two jobs trying to make ends meet and just keep her head above the water. The two just needed each other. And they just worked.
This one has a bit of the fake vibe to it. Xander is paying Sammy for some dates. And that helps with the unsure thing too. But the whole plot just works. I LOVED it.
If you like romance, and fake relationship plots, you’ll love this one!
This story was really sweet. A perfect read for Christmas! I liked the characters and how well they went together, and how things worked out for their happy ending. A nice and clean fast-paced love story.
I received a complimentary copy of the book. All opinions are my own and are expressed voluntarily.
Xander is taken with Sammy the first time he sees her working out at the gym, but she’s definitely not interested once she finds out he used to play for the NFL. She tells him working two jobs doesn’t leave her time to date, but there’s more there than lack of time. Xander eventually talks Sammy into letting him pay her to be his escort at a big banquet where he’ll get an award. One date leads to another. The money will help Sammy get out of debt and maybe quit one of her jobs. Of course things don’t go as Sammy planned. It gets confusing when you start having real feelings for the guy who pays you to date him.
I really liked Xander. He was a great guy and wanted to help Sammy. He was noticeably different than the guys he used to play football with, and was a complete gentleman. I loved when he went to the hair salon with Sammy and then they got pedicures. I wish there had been more background on Sammy. We don’t know why she’s not in contact with her sister or what happened in the past that would make her turn down a date with Xander just because he used to play pro football. Sammy would’ve gotten her happy ending, and been invited home for Christmas sooner if she had talked with Xander instead of thinking she knew what he was feeling.
This is the last book in the Love for the Holidays books, which are all standalones and can be read in any order. This is a clean romance.
A good clean romance.
Xander is a retired NFL player. He is instantly attracted to Sammy when he see her at a gym, working out. She is also attracted to him but refuses him when he asks her out. He arranges to pay for her to escort him to an NFL dinner. Both are so attracted to each other, but confused as to where the relationship stands. They need to figure out what the other wants before starting a real relationship.
I don’t know why I would think that Xander resorting to paying Sammy to go out with him could possibly develop problems but I did from the beginning. Because it is never explained why Sammy refuses to consider dating him besides the issue of time, it is harder to understand her. My sympathy through out was with Xander. At all times he behaved like a gentleman. That aside this is a good story and I enjoyed it.
This is a sweet romance that’s dialogue driven. It’s a feel-good story with a good message. The writing is smooth, but it doesn’t have much of a storyline. Sammy is ex-military, working two jobs and supporting her sister. I never learned anything about her sister or the guy who hurt her in the past. Sammy also doesn’t come across as someone who has been military trained, because she seems vulnerable around men who try their luck. Xander’s backstory is more believable and in keeping with his character. I like how he treats Sammy and doesn’t give up easily. Overall, it’s an easy comfortable read.
I received an ARC. This is my honest and voluntary review.
