Investigate With Me by Jen TaltyNot much happens in the city of Langley and that’s exactly the way newly assigned Chief of Police, Jagar Bowie prefers it. For years, Jag served the city of Seattle as one of its finest homicide detectives. He solved more murders than anyone else in his department. But it was the one that remained open that ruined his career and still haunted his dreams. No matter … dreams. No matter how hard he tries, he can’t stop searching for the Trinket Killer.
And he can’t get Callie Dixon out of his heart.
When Callie returned to Seattle to finish her book about her time as a reporter covering the Trinket Killer, her own sister’s death, and the police officer who botched the case and stole her heart, she never expected history would repeat itself.
But that’s exactly what happened.
And now her life, and heart are on the line.

A gritty and well-developed mystery by Ms. Talty. With the “Trinket Killer” still on the loose, Detective Jagar Bowie leaves Seattle P.D. for the job as Police Chief in Langley on Whidbey Island. After the death of the last victim of the killer, the sister of his then fiancée Callie Dixon, Jag knew he needed to get away. Whidbey Island has always been one of his favorite places and maybe he can heal his heart and soul. When Callie, an investigative reporter, shows up asking Jag to read the book she has written, she sets in motion events that will tear their world apart once again. With his help, will Callie finally find justice for her sister? Callie does not trust easily, has she placed her trust in the wrong person? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author. (by paytonpuppy)
Investigate With Me is an amazingly written story. Jen Talty has captivated me and kept me hooked. I am so addicted to her books and this is my favorite.
I do not normally go for contemporary literature. However, I loved the story between Jag and Callie. The reason for the 4 stars? I think there should have been one more chapter. A chapter that neatly wrapped everything up. I would have given 4 and 1/2 – but I do not have that ability. My favorite part of the story is that it kept me hooked even when I was halfway through and figured it out. But that is on me 🙂
If you have not read from Jen Talty before – pick this up. It is a good story and a great way to spend a bit of time away from your life. Jag and Callie are flawed characters but love does conquer all.
I was given an Advance copy for an honest review.
What a ride! A homicide detective and an investigative reporter are definitely an odd couple. One covering a serial killer, one investigating the serial killer. But when Callie’s sister is one of the victims, and Jag has to tell her, it all falls apart. Fast forward and Callie comes back to town to finish her book about this unsolved case. Despite all that was said between them, they still love each other but both are fighting it. And then is starts again. This book wasn’t what I was expecting, I have a real love for all things Jen Talty and this was new. But it was better than I could have expected! I couldn’t put it down and you won’t want to either!
This is not your normal romance from Jen Talty, but honestly I loved it! I think this book by this author has become my favorite! Not only did it keep me guessing on who was the bad guy most of the way through it, it kept me engaged and not wanting to put it down right from the start! Callie Dixon left Seattle over a year ago after her sister’s death by the Trinket Killer left her whole life imploding. Now she has come back to town in the hopes of some kind of closure so she can move on. Jag was a homicide detective until he lost everything in one night, including the woman he loved. And even though he is no longer involved with the Trinket Killer case, he can’t help but try to still solve it. And now that Jag and Callie have talked to each other, and he has agreed to look over her book-the past has come back to haunt them both in a way that neither expected.
Ok let me start off by saying that I was all prepared that I wouldn’t like Callie after the way things went down in the beginning of the book. And I have to say I am so glad that I was wrong! Callie has a heart of gold but it’s been broken and dented. And yet she has this strength that keeps her going and I loved her! She is smart and snarky but you can’t help but love her and understand her and what happened. Jag was another that I wasn’t sure about until I learned more about him. He is definitely someone that will do anything for the people that he loves but he also can be pig-headed and mean when he has been hurt, but honestly I think that is most of us. And then you throw the story in there and I was hooked! There are twists and turns that I certainly wasn’t expecting but I couldn’t put it down! This one was phenomenal for me and reminded me of why I love romantic suspense so much!!
Another new series by Jen Talty shows she still has lots of ideas to keep us entertained. Chief Jag Bowie retired from the Seattle PD and found his spot as the Langley Chief of Police. A much quieter existence than his previous job of detective after the botched investigation of the Trinket Killer. His secret girlfriend, Callie, during the investigation was an investigative reporter. When her sister was murdered, they both said things that shouldn’t have been said and went their separate ways. Neither forgetting about the other. A year later Callie returns to interview Jag to finish her book about the Trinket Killer. It brings up past feelings of love, hurt, and mistrust. Now that Callie is back, so is the killer. It is a race to solve the serial murders before Callie pays the ultimate price.
Never have I read a story where two people were truly meant to be together even with all the bad stuff going on around them. Jag and Callie are two dynamic, independent, and stubborn people, but are so perfect for each other it is beyond crazy!! I went through all the feels in they mystery, thrilling, romance! What happens when you through to strong willed people fighting feelings for each other while being in danger? You get an explosively amazing book!
MUST READ!!
I always know with a Jen Talty title that I’m going to get a mystery that will lead me through an entire rabbit warren of twists, turns, and misdirections. I think this book led me through more than one warren – I’m guessing somewhere around a dozen. This plot stayed solidly ahead of me. At no point was I getting around it until the author was good and ready for me to find out the answers I was so desperate to learn. And dropped into the middle of this Chinese finger trap of a case was my Kryptonite: a second chance. The last time around, Callie and Jag imploded their relationship. Have they really changed enough to do better? This book kind of tore me up. I couldn’t decide what I needed more: the answers to the mystery or to see their reconciliation. Now that I’m finished reading, I kind of hate that it’s over.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
First let me say this book had two things that made me want to read I love Jen Talty’s work and I love a great mystery and this is probably one of the best mysteries I have read in quite a while I read quite a few and usually I have it all figured out with in a couple of chapters let me tell you I was about 60% in before I began to even suspect who the killer is and it took me till about 75% before I was sure and I think that is about the longest any book has taken me there are so many twists and turns that keep you wondering
This is also basically a love story Callie a investigative Journalist and Jager (Jag) a homicide detective are both working on the trinket killer case and while initially they hate one another it soon leads to a passionate affair between them But he is keeping secrets and she is stealing information from him When Callie’s sister becomes the latest victim their love implodes and she out them on national TV This leads to her losing her job and it is a close thing for Jager. Now he is the police chief of Whidbey Island and he is finally realising that policing is more than a perfect records of arrests when Callie returns hoping for an interview from him to complete her book on the killer it starts a chain reaction The trinket killer has started to kill again and is Callie the one on his cross hairs and is the killer much closer than they think.
Do yourself a favour grab this book but make sure you allow plenty of reading time because I guarantee once you start reading you won’t want to put it down.
This is another multi-author universe, and this book has me looking to read more of it.
A cop and an investigative reporter are an interesting mix. Jager and Callie were the perfect couple until the investigation that brought them together, tears them apart. Callie’s sister is a victim of the ‘Trinket Killer’. It’s her death that triggers Callie into a spiral of accusations and guilt that lead to her losing her job and her fiancé.
Now a year later, Callie’s written a book about the case, one that puts the victims in the forefront. She’s interviewed many people and put together many things that weren’t part of the original investigation and botched arrest.
Jager also fell to the aftermath of that investigation, but he’s in a better place now. As Chief of Police of Whidbey Island, the most exciting part of the day is a speeding ticket. When Callie shows up it seems all those feelings are going to come back to the surface. She’s come to apologize for her actions and also to get an interview with him for the book.
With a bunch of trinkets they are suddenly on the look-out for the killer to resurface. When he does, it’s as bad as ever. Jager isn’t in charge of the investigation and Callie isn’t a reporter anymore. They will have to work together to dissect the evidence of the previous murders and find the clues to identify the killer once and for all.
I absolutely loved this book, I was on the edge of my seat through it all. I was also wrong in all my guesses as to who the killer was. The way Callie and Jager become involved romantically again is full of ups and downs with laughter and tears too.
I think I’ll read more of these to see where the other authors take me.
This book was great! Different then what Jen Talty usually writes and she didn’t disappoint! Jag is a detective when the book starts and Callie is a reporter. They work the case together until the killer kills Callie’s sister and she blames Jag. Callie has written a book and wants Jag to read it. Well the book stirs up things and the murders start again. This book has twists and turns, suspense, clues to have you wondering if you figured out who the killer is. Great book.
I have always loved Jen Talty’s stories but this one is her best in my eyes.
Jag is a detective and Callie is a reporter. They fed off each other. There is a serial killer linked as “The Trinket Killer .” When the killer kills Callie’s the same night they get engaged, it’s too much.
Callie is back and needs to interview Jag for the book she is writing. There are still unresolved feelings. Also, the killings start again.
Will they be able to let the past go and move into the future? Will they find the killer before the killer finds them?
This book wasn’t what I was expecting; instead, it was so much more. The characters (the good guys at least!) in this book are people you’d like as friends, and Jag’s team have his back so well. The reader works through the mistakes Jag and Callie made with them, and Jen Talty gives enough clues for you to be on the edge of your seat waiting to find out if you’re right – and I was, but not wholly! Has the Trinket Killer struck again, and what is the Trinket Killer’s link to Callie herself since her return seems to have sparked the new wave of murders? I’m reluctant to write any more because I hate spoilers in reviews, so know that this book has the level of characterization you’ve come to expect from this author, an innovative storyline that allows you to think as well as enjoy the read, and a conclusion that will make you smile.
Wow, a twisted ending. An intriguing story of a killer that has baffled cops at every turn. Jager Bowie, a homicide cop that feels like a failure because of a cold case. Callie Dixon, an investigative reporter turned crime novelist. Callie and Jager were engaged and within 24 hours find no future. Reunited, the killer is back and Jager and Callie work together instead of butting heads. This page-turner is well-written, and the characters are wonderfully developed. I loved this mystery romance.
Investigate With Me
Jen Talty
Another who dun it that keeps you reading because you just have to find out who did do it.
Strong characters who are trying to put their lives back together after a tragedy changed everything. Jag and Callie work hard to solve the murders while trying to figure out what to do with their lives. Twists and turns that have you wondering if they’ll ever find the killer.
A late night thriller and great start to a new series. Can’t wait to read more about the Bowie Family.
Jen did a great job writting this mystery. Jag is a detective for Seattle and Callie is a investigative reporter. But things got out of hand when they became a couple, in secret anyway. He believed the Trinket Killer was found, but she thought it was too neat. So when another body was found and Jag knew who it was, it was the beginning to the end for him and Callie. Lots of danger, surprises, heat and new beginnings. HEA
