WARNING: Gertrude can be a bit of a crank! She shoots from the hip, is unburdened by tact, and likes things done her way. Yet, people adore her. It’s a mystery. Speaking of which, Gertrude never set out to be a sleuth. She was just minding her own business among her many, many collections (including her cat collection), when her neighbor went missing. With no one else around to help, Gertrude … collection), when her neighbor went missing. With no one else around to help, Gertrude stepped in to solve the case–and found out she’s got quite a knack for snooping.

I enjoyed this book.it is the first book by this author I have listened to but I have already downloaded the next book. I wish it could have been longer at 3 hours and 46 minutes it is a bit shorter to the 9 or so hours I am use to but other than that I liked it. Gertrude is a fun character with plenty of spunk and a walking frame but she is not old. It is a fun light hearted and often humorous story. Well worth the listen.
When one of Gertrude’s many cats goes missing she tracks it down to a neighbours caravan. Where she finds to children left alone with only her cat for company. There mother has gone missing and Gertrude has her first case, the only clue is to start at the strip joint where she works. Gertrude needs to enlist many of her fellow neighbours to help, mainly because she needs there car not there detecting skills, that she can manage by her self. It is not long before she stumbles over naughty photos, a blackmail scam and a dead body. Will Gertrude first case turn from investigation to body guarding? She fears for another strippers life and vowels to not let her become the next victim even if it means beating the killer off with a walker. Now if she could just master technology and cell phones as easy as it is to become a pi.
I liked the narrator and thought she was perfect for the elderly sluth. I did listen to is speeded up though.
I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and any opinions expressed herein are my own.
What a fun, well-written, and quirky cozy mystery. The main character is an elderly [although Gertrude would likely take umbrage to that statement] woman who lives in a trailer park with many cats and is a hoarder. She is grumpy, self-entitled, funny, pushy, smart, sassy, and completely intriguing. I loved her from the moment she was introduced. No one really likes Gertrude, including her 70-year-old neighbor who she ropes into helping her investigate the case because he has a car. I absolutely enjoyed the time that Gertrude spent in the strip club to protect one of the strippers. The way that she decided to become a private investigator and called a press conference was fabulous. I laughed out loud multiple times at Gertrude’s antics.
The narrator, Darlene Allen, was perfect. She really brought Gertrude to life as a curmudgeon with a soft spot.
Read in a few hours and laughed my butt off the whole time!
Gertrude follows the beat of her own drum and decides it’s up to her to solve a murder. I thought the story was well written and really enjoyed the humor that was woven throughout.
If you like to smile while enjoying a lighthearted mystery ,then you won’t want to miss reading this entertainingly book staring the delightful Gertrude – self proclaimed amiture sluth . incredibly zany, smart and just a little unaware when her behavior might be slightly….illegal, and offensive. You may just find yourself laughing outlloud as you secretly wish knowing her in real life!
Laugh out loud as you read this entertaining, fun cozy mystery. Received this free.
Totally corner series but so entertaining and easy to read. Everyone should have a Gertrude.
Want to have fun while reading? Gertrude Gumshoe series is it. Suspend conventionality and just enjoy.’
This was a cute story about an older lady who owned several cats, trying to solve a mystery. Although most of it was very unbelievable from a reality stand point, it was a cute story. I could just picture “grandma” with her walker out there thinking she was a private detective. Good thing she didn’t come across a ruthless serial killer. LOL
Gertrude’s on the Case . . .
This book will bring plenty of laughs as we meet an older lady, Gertrude, surrounded by her cats. She is a hoarder, quirky, an outspoken senior who hadn’t started out as a sleuth but jumped in with both feet when she decides to investigate a neighbor’s death. She drags in an unwilling partner, also a senior, and the banter will keep you laughing as she and “Old Man Crow” search for the murderer. (You will love it when a clue leads her to a seedy strip club and she has to rely on the Community Action Program van that takes seniors to medical appointments and such!) Can Gertrude solve the mystery? Has she discovered a new talent? Who will feed her cats when she’s out on a case?
