Weaving a tapestry of fact and fiction, Sara Donati’s epic novel sweeps us into another time and place . . . and into a breathtaking story of love and survival in a land of savage beauty. It is December of 1792. Elizabeth Middleton leaves her comfortable English estate to join her family in a remote New York mountain village. It is a place unlike any she has ever experienced. And she meets a … And she meets a man unlike any she has ever encountered—a white man dressed like a Native American: Nathaniel Bonner, known to the Mohawk people as Between-Two-Lives. Determined to provide schooling for all the children of the village, Elizabeth soon finds herself locked in conflict with the local slave owners as well as with her own family. Interweaving the fate of the Mohawk Nation with the destiny of two lovers, Sara Donati’s compelling novel creates a complex, profound, passionate portait of an emerging America.
Praise for Into the Wilderness
“My favorite kind of book is the sort you live in, rather than read. Into the Wilderness is one of those rare stories that let you breathe the air of another time, and leave your footprints on the snow of a wild, strange place. I can think of no better adventure than to explore the wilderness in the company of such engaging and independent lovers as Elizabeth and her Nathaniel.”—Diana Gabaldon
“Each time you open a book you hope to discover a story that will make your spirit of adventure and romance sing. This book delivers on that promise.”—Amanda Quick
“A beautiful tale of both romance and survival…Here is the beauty as well as the savagery of the wilderness and, at the core of it all, the compelling story of the love of a man and a woman, both for the untamed land and for one another.”—Allan W. Eckert
“Lushly written . . . Exemplary historical fiction.”—Kirkus Reviews
“Epic in scope, emotionally intense.”—BookPage

A well written story that grabbed a hold of me from the beginning until the end. Loved it!
Painless history combined with romance in revolutionary America.
My favorite of the series!
womderful — couldn’t put it down
Extremely good and the next five of this series were excellent also!
This book is the first of a wonderful series! Historical fiction at its best. Fans of Diana Gabaldon will find a lot to love about this book. You will fall in love with all the characters and quickly become invested in their story.
I loved this book and read the whole series. I enjoyed all of the characters and really wanted to read how their lives progressed. I enjoyed the history aspect but it was really the lives of the characters that kept me reading.
Terrific Characters! Great story from start to finish. I could not put this book down and cannot wait to read the two books to follow this first installment.
First of all, I love this author’s writing having read another of her books before I knew of this series. This book is one of those that will keep you reading into the night when you should turn out the light and go to bed! Read it. You will not be disappointed.
Great read!
I felt this story was very different and original. I was cheering for the main characters, and I had fun reading it.
I found some of the relationships a bit sappy but it was interesting to learn how people lived. The alliances and tensions between the settlers and natives were compelling.
Historical novel written in the style of Diana Gabladon, this book is
one of the best I have read in 2019. Like the Outlander series on
Television, this one would make a great movie too. Only drawback is
you want to read the second book in the series very badly and of course
it is marked up In price. I found a soft cover on Amazon for less than the
Kindle edition and got to read it that way. Am recommending this set to
our local Library and to our Book Club for reading and discussion.
This is a wonderful classic series.
Love the book with a great adventure! Great read!
I like strong women in the frontier setting.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Not giving anything away I didn’t like the way it ended with so many open stories. I loved the characters and how the author describe them and the surroundings. Kept interested and entertained.
it is a little confusing with all the characters and their names.
Very good
Great read! Haven’t missed any from this series. Eagerly waiting on next one to come out in September.
