AMAZING story of the Chicago fire and an even MORE amazing love story in its midst!
I have mixed feelings on the characters of this book. However, the writing is well done. I enjoyed the history woven in to the story. The ending was also something I thought was good. It helped redeem a few of the middle parts where I was frustrated with the characters, lol. Your mileage may vary so I say it’s still worth trying. Where I felt frustrated was a business transaction with the h’s father & the H’s employer that had the h & H have a falling out. To me it felt like that part wasn’t flushed out enough. Or given more detail. Left me with some questions. The H in his defense used justification and rationalized with out an apology. The part of the story left me feeling he was two faced and wondering why the H wasn;t more upfront with either side. Hard to explain since I don’t want to add spoilers. However, I did soften with that feeling later on. The h & H were actually quite mean to each other for being in love. Perhaps the inflection of the narrarotor made this worse and if I was reading this it wouldn’t have come across so rude. There was a bit of a love triangle. Those make me nevrous but by the end your satisfied with how things end up. For my personal opinion a 3.5 stars. For someone else it might be even higher. It is well reserched. The writing is well done just the H & h left me frustrated sometimes there in the middle. I liked the side characters. I was very happy for Declan.
Camden writes a great story of the Great Chicago Fire! Living in the Chicago area, it was fun to read about Chicago landmarks and learn about more of the history of the fire. This story enlightened me to events immediately following the fire and the beginnings of the cleanup/rebuilding phase. I always enjoy Camden’s books because I learn new details about an historical event, some of the backstory of the event. This book developed the personal stories of the characters.
Just finished Into the Whirlwind and think it is one of the best books I have read lately. It was very interesting.
I love this series and this author. A must read. Very good.
Another winner by Elizabeth Camden. This one takes place during and after the great Chicago fire of the 1880’s. She often features women who are working in a field where women are not common or welcomed, yet do their best against the odds. This one is a watch maker who hires wounded veterans from the Civil War. They make exquisite timepieces, in a world that is starting to go mass produced. She is forced to make changes in order to continue employing the families who depend on her.
Another winner from Camden!
I cried, laughed, and so enjoyed this book.
I loved this book the most. It was the best written book so far for a historical fiction book. I love the fact that his is about history of event that happen in Chicago. It has some romance but not whole lot in it. This book is about the Chicago fire. It is cool that it tell you about the people and how people dealt with the fire.
I really talks about the aftermath of the great Chicago fire. It detail the what happens to some of the buildings and what the neighbors did for the city and new change came about. If you really like history or interest in history of the US then this book is for you. Remember this book has some fiction but it still go learning tool to learn about American history in some ways.
GREAT READ! Once again, unusual circumstances, engrossed the reader! Clean romance, yet passionate!
