She is a woman on the run. Pain, loneliness and terror are what she is leaving. Where she is headed doesn’t matter as long as it’s away from the hell her life has become.Joshua Bennett is trapped in a prison of his own making by the memories of his past. Traumatized and isolated, he is a reclusive writer, living a quiet, lonely life, his only companion his dog, Bear. It is what he knows, what he … knows, what he has accepted to be his life.
One dark night, one huge storm, and one ice patch brings them together. He finds himself with an unexpected houseguest with no memory. She wakes up a stranger to herself and the man watching her. Even more mysterious is the lack of any sort of identification with her or in her car. She is an enigma to both of them.
Trapped by the storm and isolated from the outside world, they slowly open up, learning to trust and love, until the world once again shows up, threatening the fragile peace of their newly discovered world, and tearing them apart.
There are many twists and turns as they struggle to find each other, overcoming both the mental and physical elements that keep them apart.
A story about overcoming our fears, finding love and learning to live again.

So many feelings for Joshua and his Rabbit. I was a crying mess reading about these two. They both had so much to overcome and overcome they did. Joshua had a rough past to get through and with the help of Rabbit and some very understanding yet loving friendships he did. Rabbit’s story is of violence and with Joshua’s love and the same friends that helped him she too will get to where she needs to be and that is with Joshua.
Stunning
This offering from Melanie Moreland had everything I love in a book! Strong but vulnerable main characters, a little bit of mystery and peril, a cute pet, supportive and amazing side character friends, and a lot of hot lovin’! One of the best audiobooks I’ve ever listened to!
Beautifully written. A story about overcoming fear, isolation and being brave to escape domestic abuse. The power of finding love and having a second chance in life.
Into the Storm
Written by: Melanie Moreland
Melanie Moreland is one of my go to authors and I’ve yet to be disappointed.
Two people both broken, Joshua lives with his dog Bear away from town with little contact with the rest of the world. He has a small group of people he lets into his life. Until the night that a car accidently drives up his driveway and ends up spinning out and hitting a tree.
Lizzy has been broken emotionally and physically and finally took the opportunity to leave a bad marriage. She leave with no idea where she is going and ends up in the middle of a storm not knowing where she is going but determined to hide from her abuser. It’s her car that crashes into a tree on Joshua’s property. The car is damaged and when she finally comes to she has no memory and doesn’t know who she is.
This was an emotional read and I was wrapped up in their story and as the pages flew by I became very attached to this couple and although I knew they would go through a lot, I also knew that Melanie Moreland would give me what I needed. Two people who had found each other and where able to conquer their own personal issues for the other.
Another 5 star read for me.
If you are looking for a short or quick read, this is not the book. I listened to John Lane narrate and thought he did an excellent job. It’s not often I find a book and hear the male narrator more than the female.
Every time I thought Joshua and Lizzy’s (Rabbit) tale was coming to a close, their path took another direction. I am not even sure exactly how long they were together before CeCe discovered Lizzy’s identity, but it felt like months. My guess is that is why I didn’t think of the book as instalove/instalust. When I think about it, they had only been together about 2 weeks.
I found myself completely immersed in their story. I wanted to strangle Joshua for trying to be noble. Couldn’t he see what was happening? I was surprised that his friends did not want to check out her situation more before delivering her back into evil. I held my breath the entire time she was with James. And then I was on edge waiting for James to pop up again.
I thought James’ problem was rather obvious, so it came as no surprise when it was revealed. I also thought James’ “comeuppance”, so to speak, suited the crime. I was glad Lizzy had the opportunity to say what she wanted to James.
The romance, was in Joshua being willing to overcome his own issues, in order to take care of Lizzy’s. Joshua survived his own trauma with the scars to prove it.
There was so much to this book that it would take almost as long to explain my likes and dislikes as it did to listen to it. I wasn’t thrilled when Lizzy made the decision about James. I did enjoy the James standoff.
This book was more like the saga of Joshua and Lizzy. Two troubled people with difficult pasts and complicated presents. I really enjoyed the part where Joshua’s friends stepped in to support both Joshua and Lizzy. Adam, Cecelia, Trevor, Frank, and David really stepped up to the plate. There were twists, turns, and some not so surprising surprises. On occasion, I like to read/listen to a longer book to really get into it. This was just that book. 4.5 stars.
I absolutely loved this book. It’s the first I’ve read by this author and it definitely won’t be the last. This story is beautifully written and I went through all my emotions on this one. Joshua is so different from most typical hero characters I’m used to reading about and I LOVED him! I loved how he gave her the nickname Rabbit and the reason behind it. This story had me near tears, on edge, smiling and I just could not put it down. It had everything I look for in a book and it was such a beautiful love story. Definitely five stars!
4 stars!
**audiobook**
Into the Storm is an older release by Melanie Moreland but one that has been on my TBR for a while. I adored it. Joshua is a recluse. Living alone North of Toronto. He does not leave his house as he has agoraphobia since a horrific attack. He is a best selling mystery writer. Lizzie (he calls her Rabbit) crashes into his life and they fall in love fast and quickly. The only problem is she doesnt know where she belongs. She has no memory of her life and her past. Eventually she is sent back to her old life and put into danger and Joshua has to figure out how to get her back while facing his fear of leaving his home.
Melanie Moreland’s writing in this one is emotional, full of angst and gripping. She has captured my heart with this incredible love story. The story is unique and these characters have endured so much.
Joshua and Lizzie are both broken and recovering from their own traumas. I love the strength and support they offered each other while also dealing with their own recovery separately.
My only complaint is the nickname ‘rabbit’ it grated on my nerves how many times the nickname was used. After Joshua learned her name he should have been using it instead. The nickname was repetitive and overkill.
Tatiana Sokolov & John Lane are incredible narrators. Their voices exude passion and emotion and they told this story perfectly.
Melanie Moreland is a great author. This story is about a lost women who is found by Joshua a men who suffers from agoraphobia. This woman has been through something and an accident that leaves her not remembering who she is. Because of how skittish she is Joshua starts calling her Rabbit. But once the truth of what happened to Rabbit comes out it’s up to Joshua to make some hard decision.
Loved the way Joshua found “Rabbit”, rescued her, and brought her into his life in seclusion.
I found it odd that there was never any description from either either of them, of the other. We don’t even know the breed of dog, who plays a big part in this lovely story. A big part of reading for me, is visualization. I am hesitating reading more of her books for this reason alone. With that aside, this was a well written story, albeit a bit repetitive in some things. (Just not descriptions of any characters)
What unbelieve beautiful story of two people that get to feel safe and whole again. Elizabeth aka Lizzy aka Rabbit’s journey to remember her past and find her future is truly amazing. Joshua has been a recluse for years and now he is thrown himself into helping Rabbit. Not only is he helping her heal externally he is helping her heal internally, which in turns helps him.
I was completely drawn to this story from a post on a site called Book+Main.

4 star Review Into The Storm by Melanie Moreland
This was Melanie Moreland’s debut novel and although I have read other books from her I had not read this one.Into The Storm is a story about overcoming fears, finding love and learning to live again.
This was an emotional roller coaster of a read that left me with a book hangover. Both Joshua and Lizzy need to overcome so many things, both mentally and physically and at times I was concerned that it would all be too much.
Joshua is one of those men that will stay in my heart as the way he cares for the injured Lizzy, was simply beautiful. He gave her hope, light and strength when she needed it most and I truly fell for him.
Into The Storm covers some hard topics and Melanie Moreland handled them with integrity. Never have I cheered for a happily ever after as I did for Joshua and Lizzy.
Ms. Moreland weaves a story of hope, of taking a leap of faith and learning to trust again and of overcoming ones fears.
Into the Storm was another masterpiece by Melanie. This was, I understand, her debut novel, and it was epic. We have some delicate issues brought up, PTSD from being brutally attacked and spousal abuse. Both our H and h deal with these two issues, with the h having amnesia when our H finds her. But they help each other heal and find the love neither thought they would ever have, as well as another big miracle. This book just grabs your heart and twists it so you feel so good while you read it you don’t want to put it down to do mundane things like eat or sleep or work. SO Good! With Melanie Moreland, you can just click her books and know that you will be getting a wonderful read!!!
