Two FBI agents are caught in a merciless vigilante’s crosshairs in New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Eden’s electric Killer Instinct series Sheltered in the shadows of the Smoky Mountains is the suspect who’s summoned FBI agent Macey Night’s fears to the surface. Every day that the “Profiler,” a vigilante serial killer, escapes justice is another day she’s reminded of what it is to be a … is to be a ruthless predator’s prey. Capturing him is a craving deeper than anything she’s felt in a long time. But Agent Bowen Murphy, equal parts sexy and volatile, seems hell-bent on changing that. Working together–needing, living and breathing each other–they’re entwined to distraction.
Bowen’s used to operating on impulse: act, don’t feel. Now Macey and the controlled terror behind her beautiful eyes have him rethinking everything, including his rule to never get close to a colleague. He’s willing to fight for a future with Macey, but the consequences of love could be deadly.

A romantic suspense that keeps you glued to the page. You will be kept guessing until the end as FBI agent Macey Night along with her “partner” Bowen Murphy work together to catch a serial killer who is chasing down, finding, and then killing serial killers the FBI can’t find. This is part of a series but the first one I read and it could be read as a stand alone. Twists and surprises throughout the book. Just when you think you have the answer, another twist occurs.
Warning: Adult Sexual Content – which you can skip over and still fully enjoy the book.
Wow
That was pretty dang good. From beginning to end, I was engaged and intrigued. These characters are intense and flawed and the storytelling is too notch.
Favorite Quotes:
She felt as if she’d shattered into a million pieces and then been put together all wrong.
I just want to fall asleep in your arms and know that, for a few moments, I’m safe. Because that’s what you are to me, Bowen… You’re my safety in a storm.
My Review:
I fell right into this intense and intriguing story during its extremely powerful and harrowing prologue. I felt gripped by my hair and the tension in my neck did not relent until the last chapter. This was my first time reading Cynthia Eden and had no idea what to expect, I now expect to be reading her crafty tales quite often. The premise was interesting and the writing was well paced, wily, and compelling. Although the FBI didn’t like the idea of a killer besting them and taunting them with it, I rather fancied the idea of a killer killing off loathsome predators and wondered – why not let him be – until I realized there was collateral damage to innocents as well since killers aren’t all that discriminating… silly me for not thinking that through. And in the midst of all that hunting and chasing and slicing and dicing, a sweet and steamy love story blossomed – oh yeah… I liked that… I really like that a lot.
Macey Night was a dr who was almost killed by another doctor who turned out to be a serial killer. She joined the FBI and is now part of a special team that profiles and hunts killers. Each member has either been targeted by a killer or knows a killer personally. Bowen is Macey’s partner and he killed a serial who murdered his girlfriend. He has been attracted to Macey since the first day but kept his distance.
There is someone out there killing serial killers. He killed the doctor who held Macey. A pyromaniac. And anyone else who is guilty of committing a crime. He is taunting Bowen by calling and telling him that he knows all the agents secrets.
Fast paced, suspenseful, sexy story.I don’t want to give anything away and I don’t know if any of this makes sense. It’s a Cynthia Eden book, so you know it’s good.
INTO THE NIGHT is the third instalment in Cynthia Eden’s contemporary, adult KILLER INSTINCT romantic, suspense series focusing on the men and women who work for the ‘behavioural analysis unit’ within the FBI, all of whom have an intimate connection with a serial killer. This is agents Macey Night and Bowen Murphy’s story line. INTO THE NIGHT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from several third person points of view including Macey and Bowen INTO THE NIGHT follows the search for a serial killer. Five years earlier Dr. Macey Night was the sole surviving victim of a serial killer-a friend, and fellow doctor, and a psychotic killer who targeted women with heterochromia-a unique characteristic in dual eye color that includes our story line heroine. Fast forward to present day wherein Macey Night believes she has located the man responsible for destroying so many lives. Along with fellow FBI agent Bowen Murphy, Macey goes on the hunt for only to discover that there may be more than one killer on the loose in the Smokey Mountains. What ensues is the building but forbidden relationship between agents Macey Night and Bowen Murphy, and the potential fall out when one or both of our leading characters is targeted in a game of cat and mouse.
INTO THE NIGHT is a psychological thriller; a murder mystery/ romantic suspense story that weaves a twisted path of potential suspects, dark demons, retribution and revenge. Not everyone is who he or she appears to be; the killer is closer than anyone suspected. A vigilante ‘profiler’ is always one step ahead of the FBI’s behavioral analysis unit, taking down a long list of serial killers, leaving the team perplexed as to the how and why.
Cynthia Eden blends a little bit of romance between Macey and Bowen-two agents who have survived their own encounters with a serial killer and lived to tell. The relationship between Macey and Bowen is one of immediate attraction as Bowen has kept his emotions intact as he must come to terms with his growing love for a woman who is determine to take down the man that destroyed her life. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Samantha Dark (The Gathering Dusk/After The Dark) , the woman in charge of the behavioural analysis unit; agent Tucker Frost (Before the Dawn); new unit agent and IT hacker Jonah Loxley; and a large assortment of medical personnel and medical examiners, law enforcement, and a number of suspects that continues to grow with every body.
INTO THE NIGHT is a fast paced, energetic story with several twists that will keep you guessing until the very end. The premise is engaging and entertaining; the characters are numerous, colorful and charismatic; the romance is seductive.
