It’s coiled so tight.Wrapped around my very soul, the tendrils of hate burning incessantly as they burrow deeper. The darkness has claimed me for its own… and I refuse to disappoint it.The blood of my father has coated my hands along with a few others, but I won’t stop now. This is only the beginning and I have a list of wrongs that I need to make right.I will do anything to protect the ones I love… do anything to protect the ones I love…
even if it means more blood on my hands.

This book was absolutely amazing! I loved seeing Ember and Vin come together and, in my opinion it is an epic read!
These books just keep getting better and better! Ember has finally embraced her darkness and is letting her freak flag fly and I am here for it! This book picks up right where book one left us on that very intense cliffhanger and unanswered questions. We find out what happened in vivid detail to her father (which deserved everything he got and much more). I absolutely love and adore how Vin fully accepts Ember the good and the bad. We get too know alittle more about Emmet and Carm
There were too many secrets she kept and I’m wondering how the fuck she slept at night. How could she look at me and not feel some sort of guilt about keeping a whole family from me?
Ember is shrouded by darkness, has a thirst for blood and lusts in ensuring any who have wronged her or her family get their rightful punishment. She thinks everything through to the final detail as she tries to put the pieces back where they belong. She values family and she can’t lose anyone else close to her, as it will be the one thing she can’t come back from. The sleepy little town of Whitsborough has many secrets to hide. Next book is Finding the Light and I’m about to lose myself in the pages.
This second book really amped up the darkness factor as Ember finally embraced her darkness completely, she’s definitely one girl you don’t want to mess with.
This had plenty of action and Ember and Vin have moved up to the next level in their relationship and are now completely solid together.
He understands and accepts Embers need for blood and vengeance and stands by his girl completely, he just gets her and his love is unconditional.
A lot does happen here and we get some new players added to the mix in the form of Embers brothers to further shake things up.
As for Embers besties well we didn’t get to see that much of Adri here and what we did see I wasn’t really a fan of but Travis did come into his own and it’s very apparent that he’s been holding a great deal back, surprisingly it’s Vin that picks up the slack here stepping up and coming through for his brother despite there previous volatile history.
This had twists and turns combined with plenty of steamy heat.
It had a definite darker vibe compared to the first book and discounting that finale and the events preceding we really just skated the lines between black and white right or wrong here these markers are totally obliterated and smashed to smithereens.
Ember is like the angel of death personified and those who face her wrath better beware.
I’m really liking this series a lot it’s bloody and violent and Ember is all things psychotic but I can’t help but like her and she has such a big heart for those she calls hers.

ARC REVIEW- Into Darkness by C.A. Rene
Into Darkness is the second book in the Whitsborough Chronicles series and is full of secrets, revelations, emotions, twists, turns, things going sideways, heat and emotions. I very highly recommend Into Darkness, the Whitsborough Chronicles, and C.A. Rene as an author. C.A. Rene, author, is a very talented writer who can definitely tell a story that keeps you engrossed and full of surprises. After reading four of her books that I have loved reading I put her into my top 10 fave authors. Usually I will put authors in a to watch for list but with C.A. I just skipped that part. Into Darkness did not disappoint in anyway. My attention was captured from beginning to the very end (can’t say that one was a surprise as I think after reading two books of the Whitsborough Chronicles and getting to know Ember that is exactly what she would do ). Into Darkness continued with Ember, Vin, Travis, Andri, Emmet, and Carmelo who are all characters you meet and get to know and can’t help but empathize with. Ember is a very strong woman and she has been through a lot and and had to deal with more than her share of troubles. There were some very major elements she has had to deal with. Ember and Vin continue to grow closer and there was an incident that happened to Vin and Travis and we got a glimpse of what would happen to her emotionally if anything more had happened to Vin. While dealing with elements in her life and finding her way she has gotten to know both Carmelo and Emmet better. Ember quickly realizes that she has always missed Emmet (even though she had not known about him just that she knew a hole was missing). Sorry I am trying not to spoil anything for future readers I will say that I am totally invested in the Whitsborough Chronicles Series and can’t wait to start Finding the Light , Book 3. Hope you enjoy Into Darkness as much as I do.
Blown away! I love book one but book two puts it to shame! From the first page there is so much. It’s dark and twisted and I think that Ember might be my new favorite psychotic person. Jaw dropping, wtf moments that will force all the emotions out of you. There is no break. From beginning to the end, it’s a whirlwind of in your face moments, revelations and blood thirsty times. This is not a book you are going to be able to read just one chapter. Heck I have finished two of them in a day and am dying to start book three right now. 110% must read bloody dark amazing goodness! These characters are going to get under your skin.
It’s slowly getting better. Still not as dark as I expected. However, I was thoroughly engaged from the start. The scene, in the beginning, is what got me. I knew then I needed to find out more. There’s nothing that’ll prepare you for this whirlwind series. It’s sort of like a tornado that picks you up and keeps spinning you around.
I loved this book, it was even better than the first one. I highly recommend it.
Another great book by C.A. Rene. This is book 2 in the Whitsborough series and it was amazing just like book 1. Book 2 made me love and glad I started reading this series. I was blessed with a arc of book 2 and am glad. Ember once again blew me away with herself. She is truly an amazing girl and I don’t know why but I just loved her and can’t get over how great she is. I thought I loved book 1 the best but I was wrong i love book 2 just as much as i love book 1. This is another 5 star rating book! I truly couldn’t wait to read book 3. Once again we wont forget about the cover by Samantha La Mar @TalkNerdyPR as it it amazingly beautiful! C.A Rene is definitely an amazing and talented author. This is also in my list to reread. Also in my top ten list of favorite and best books.
I’ve got this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Beware, this gets darker than the last book. If you are in, as I was, then buckle up and take the west ride!
This books truly is darker and better than the first one. Yes, it took me longer to read, but it was only because I was super hyped about it and then I didn’t want to ruin the hype, so I slowed down. I slowed down to the point when I couldn’t read, but then I picked it back up and boom! I’m finished!
So this book is 100% worth the read! C.A. Rene truly knows how to keep the storyline going and interesting. I was worried that the hype I felt won’t be give in this book, but the truth is I got so much more.
Ember is truly dark, not just by the type of clothing she wears, but her soul is dark. Somewhere along there I can sympathise with her, but no blood for me. I love the way she has confidence and strength + a huge bonus is = she knows how to protect herself & her family…she doesn’t need anyone doing it for her.
Yes, Ember is our dark spirit. This book points out how exactly our lives could be if we haven’t got lucky to live a better life.
Honestly? There’s a lot about this book that I loved. Yes, for me it was mostly the darkness and the steamy scenes, you know. But after all I loved seeing a “different” side of the life. We don’t always choose where we are born or to whom, but we can always come out as a fighter and stronger!
I’ve got much more to add here, but I won’t. It wouldn’t truly be related to the book’s storyline, more to the feelings and depth of it.
One thing is for damn sure! This second book is worth the read! I can’t wait torrid the 3rd, which I think is Travis’s book.
“Into Darkness” is the second book of the “Whitsborough Chronicles” series by the author C.A. Rene. Get ready to meet Vin and Em again!
After that first book , I was so excited to meet these two again and those side characters too. This book continued from where the first one ended and it was a good read for me.
The storyline is good and there was a lot of character development. The Twists and turns were a bit unexpected and those were the ones I enjoyed the most. The book was not that lengthy and there were parts where things just felt dull and I had to force myself to keep reading , but it was good on an overall basis. I am glad that Em and Vin got their deserved ending and now other characters can also have their books!!
A definite recommendation to all the dark Romance lovers out there!
Ok, so- here’s the thing.
For some reason I don’t like Ember so much and I cannot imagine her being just 17 y/o. BUT I also have to say that this girl have me completely. I cannot wait to read the third book now and get to know more about the other characters.
Sure, Ember is a badass killer who is -kind of- a vigilante, but since I don’t get her completely, I think I’ll Keep reading and see if I do at some point while really enjoying the reading about Travis because I think that’s my little guy and favorite character so far.
I really, really hope C.A. doesn’t kill me in the next book as she did in this one. Really? You had to do it?
Into Darkness by C.A. Rene is a dark revenge romance. This is the second book in the Whitsborough Chronicles series and should be read in order.
I absolutely love C.A. Rene’s books! She pulled me in from the first chapter and I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next. There are so many twists and turns that kept me captivated until the very end. I was so excited to get more back story on Carmelo and Emmett. I love the friendship that’s being built between Travis and Vincent. And of course we can’t forget about the off the charts chemistry between Ember and Vincent.
I really liked that we got more of Vincent’s point of view throughout this book and we had a chapter with Travis point of view. It really brings the story to life to know what is going on in the heads of Ember, Vincent, and Travis.
The book does end on a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to dive into the next book in the series Finding the Light.
I would highly recommend this series if you like dark romances, contemporary romances, or romantic suspense.
Holy fucking shit this series is awesome and I can’t stop reading it. I was up a night reading it . Ember can’t seem to catch a break and it was gut wrenching pain with and tears . This book is dark and it not for everyone. C.A. Rene did not disappoint that’s for sure . I love reading about Canada and i live in Kawartha Lakes . I highly recommend this book !!!!
This 2nd book was when Ember really came into her own, I had to gird my loins to read this one. I knew it was going to be rough and traumatizing and I was right, and it was way worse than i ever expected but in the best way…I could not put this one down. Vin and Em are each others mate to their soul. I dont think I have ever read a pair of characters that have been portrayed in such a detailed real way. I love love love this depth and grittiness that is shown. The POVs are the best. They are so detailed and amazing. I cant even explain it. The things that happen in this 2nd book are brutal. so incredibly brutal and the emergence of The Black Slaughter has occurred. IF that name doesnt pull you in then i dont know what will.. What does that mean you ask? HA HA HA Well you just have to read it. I could not even begin to explain it to you. This 2nd book is dark and really takes us to the bowels of the town. She starts to rid the town of corruption but it takes a toll on her. Shes broken and grieving and Vin is right there with her through it all.
“You have to free the demons inside because thats where your hell is”….. “inside”-Vin
“How do you know that?”-Em
“Thats where mine are too”-Vin
God, you have to love Vin. I just cant with them. I highly highly recommend this series but do take the triggers VERY seriously…One of the best series of 2020
Darkness at its finest… continuing the series perfectly from the first book … I cannot wait toes where this story will carry me.. looking forward to the next book in the series! Well Done!
Into Darkness pick up where Through The Pain left you. I’m not going to give away too much. Into Darkness is too good. Ember has fight the darkness inside of herself not for her but her family. We get to learn and see more about brothers. We get twist turn and tragic in the story. C. A. Rene not only does a wonderful job writing the storyline but the characters are so great. Remember there are a lot of tiggers.
This series is getting better as I read. For real, the buildup is FANTASTIC!!! Ember is proving to be a force and I can’t help but feel somewhat kindred to her. I didn’t see this series as actually being dark but dang. I have changed my mind. This is a major must read for anyone that thrives on a kick butt FMC
Ok I have to say with each hook I read in this series…they just keep getting better and better. This is Bk 2 and where Ember with the help from Vin who’s her boyfriend has been fighting to keep the darkness from consuming her as she tries to have a normal high school life, but it seems someone is starting trouble and once again her family is affected. This girl can’t catch a break just when you think thing’s might be kitten and rainbows somebody has to be starting trouble and without giving much away let’s just say this they’ve pissed off the wrong person. I can’t wait to get my hands on Bk 3 to see what’s happening next.
This is the continuation of Ember story. After the events which took place in the end of Through the Pain, Ember has found her “calling” and succumbed into darkness. She has a clear list of what she wants to do, and let’s just say that the secrets and twists keep coming, you never get bored with this series, it keeps getting better and better.
This book is full of action and explicit content, dark and beautiful. It is hard to believe that the characters are a bunch of teenagers. Whereas the first book was zero-mild dark, this one is darker, a complete upgrade from the first one, and I love it.
I liked the relationship between Ember and Vin, how supportive Vin is, and how he helps her to achieve her “dreams”. I am intrigued by Emmett, curious, just curious. And Travis… I think there is a story in progress here. I can’t wait to read more about Ember and Vin and see where the storyline takes us.
P.S. As this has some great descriptions of actions please be advised that there are a lot of triggers.
