As an artist, this devotional hit home for me and deeply touched me. I’ve always felt that my artistic ability was a gift from God. The author encourages the reader to dig down deep and find the creative talents God has given us and use it to bring beauty into the world to honor HIM. She reminds us that creativity has many forms and each form is unique to the person. To connect with God in a personal way brings that out in us.
The devotional is unique and wonderfully written. It speaks from years of the author’s experiences and her insightful words are backed up with scripture. Some of my most loved scriptures were included. A very encouraging and uplifting devotional with lessons in ethics.
I loved her addition of drawings which can be used for coloring. I highly recommend the book and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I received an updated version of the book from Celebrate Lit. and voluntarily choose to review it. My opinions are my own
Inspired Artistry is a devotional written in a way that reaches out to the artist in each one of us. So many people say they’re not creative, but it’s built into our nature. Each child finds their creative outlet and as we grow we sometimes lose sight of what can be considered creative. Pamela Poole encourages the reader to draw closer to their Maker and find their gift to bring beauty into the world. I really enjoyed the different, and creative, format of this devotional. The longer chapters allow the reader to really dig in and think deeply about the topics and how it relates to ourselves on a sincere level.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit but was not under any obligation to write a review. All opinions are strictly mine.
What I think you should know: Inspired Artistry, Embracing the Creative Calling by Pamela Poole is a devotional. The devotional is designed to help Christians understand that Spirit – Filled Creative expression is an outreach for Christians to be ambassadors of the Kingdom.
What I think about this book: As a Christian who has been blessed with three creative sons I am really excited to read a book that reminds Christians that not only is our creativity a gift from God, but that we should use it for HIS glory. I enjoy how each Poole uses Scripture to reinforce what she is saying in the book. I love how she includes many types of creativity and inventiveness, not just traditional painting or sculpting. I love how she charges each of us with using our gift for Christ. I was also touched with how she charged her reader to look at whether their works left their audience “ Better or Baser”. I truly enjoyed this devotional and will be getting a print copy for myself as I love coloring and journaling.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
This is a short Devotional, but it is packed with a lot of really good information. The author uses the world of art a lot in this book, but she makes it clear that it is any gift God gives you that you can find help and encouragement here in this book. To me, the main theme in this book is to find the gift that God has given me (us) and use it to his glory. We all have unique gift, and whether we know what our give it, or we are still trying to figure it out, God wants us all to use what He has given us.
The author has given us as readers lots if help in this area, as well as backed it up with a lot of scripture. I enjoyed each devotion and will be reading them again in the near future. Though they are speaking about the same things, they are also uniquely different. I encourage each of you reading this to check your own hearts and find your gift that our Lord has given you.
A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this wit
This brief devotional book, or maybe I should call it inspirational book, shares thoughts, experiences, and insights from the author. She calls them Inspired Musings. The twelve chapters are longer than most daily devotionals, but don’t take long to read and offer practical things to ponder. The book is not set up in the typical format with suggested Bible readings, but she does include Scripture verses and prayers, along with pertinent quotes. The text’s main focus is creativity, and the artist-author draws from her art world with anecdotes and examples to illustrate her points. I appreciated the author’s stance and the boundaries she advises. Black-and-white illustrations of paintings and pictures to color are scattered through the book. The latter could be printed from the kindle version. Journaling as you read is recommended. You could read one chapter a day, but one a week would work well, allowing time to meditate on the creative calling and how it is expressed in your own life. This could also be used in a class for discussion and sharing of what the chapters inspire in your life. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.
Inspired Artistry, by Pamela Poole, is an inspirational and enlightening devotional. Though not very long, it packs a LOT of information.
I often don’t feel creative at all, nor do a lot of women I know. Inspired Artistry dispels that idea quite nicely. There are many ways one can be artistic without being an artist. Poole quotes a passage in Exodus 35, verses 10-19, to illustrate her point. In one passage, it mentions shepherds-I never thought of shepherds as artists-but just think about it for a moment. It helps to keep me from feeling like a lowly homemaker!
I really appreciated a section on her personal stance against objectionable materials that are encountered by artists of varying types and how to deal with them for ourselves.
As I read her good advice, I very well remembered a situation where I had a real struggle with this issue. I had wanted to join a large, nationally known and heretofore well-respected Christian fiction organization. Before I committed a substantial amount of money, I saw a comment on FB from an author I respected. The comment related there was to be a guest speaker at the convention who had been there before and used some hard-core curse words in their earlier speech, leaving the author to believe it would happen again. I checked into the allegations and found they were true.
I was heartily disappointed because other authors I knew and respected were on the committee. Also disappointing me, there was nothing from any of them to let prospective attendees know of the nature of the speaker’s past speech. Only a tenacious and searching mindset allowed me to make an informed decision. Needless to say, I didn’t join. Christian artistry needs the testimony of Pamela Poole.
I enjoyed Poole’s openness with her own struggles and how she related specific, detailed Bible verses to share her line of reasoning. If you’re facing writer’s block, painter’s block, feelings of inadequacy as a homemaker or a woman, you will like and be grateful for Poole’s perspective.
I received Inspired Artistry from Celebrate Lit. However, I was under no obligation to post a review.
Inspired Artistry, Embracing the Creative Calling is a delightful devotional book by author Pamela Poole. Before reading this book many may claim they have no creativity or talent. After this eye-opening devotional they just might feel differently.
Scripture and encouraging quotes are woven throughout this unique devotional. Reflective questions ask readers things such as “HAVE YOU EVER PRAYERFULLY asked Jesus to guide you along the best path for using the gifts, skills, and talents He has stamped on your soul?” to help them strengthen their daily walk. I even found some beautiful pictures to color to express my own creativity.
The lessons on many of the das have stuck with me. Creativity can come in a wide variety of forms. The author urges readers to find their own and flourish. She encourages us to draw close to God and use the gifts He gave us to make the world better.
This is a well thought and organized book. Much time has gone into its planning and it shows The author has a nice style of writing. Her ideas and lessons are easy to understand. They are centered around faith and God.
I recomme nd this devotional to anyone, especially if you are creative or desire a different type of devotion for a change. You will be pleasantly surprised with this gem. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit, but these are my honest words.
I don’t consider myself a creative person. Really I don’t have a gift for decorating or drawing or art. Because of that, I forget that sometimes creativity can express itself in other formats.
Inspired Artistry is a great devotional for those artistic and creative people, but also for anyone wanting to understand the creativeness of God better. Even though I am not artistic I still felt myself drawn to the devotions and grabbing things from them that I didn’t think would apply to me.
Whether you think you are artistic of not I think this will be a good devotional for you. Give it a try and see what you think.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
This book will inspire you to discover your gifts and use them to honor God. I know I can raise my hand and say I have no artistic talent. My husband is very gifted in airbrushing and painting. He has used his talent to do murals for churches and homes. I’m in awe of his ability and how he gracefully sees a blank canvas come to life. Now what is my artistic talent? Do I even have any?
While reading this book, I found that I have artistic talents but never thought of them as that. I am very creative and can take a song and do a dramatic interpretation of it. Many of the Children’s Christmas plays I directed was from a script that I enhanced and expanded on. Wait a minute? I do have abilities and never realized that I was using my gifts to share His Word.
The book is very well planned out and gives readers not only examples but scriptures to help us discover what God has given us to use for His glory. What about the person who said words of encouragement to you and brought a smile to your face. Their gift is a way of expressing feelings that bring comfort and joy. I began to look at artistic abilities in a new light. We all have a gift that can be used to be His hands and feet.
I love to do reviews for authors to bless them for their hard work. I never thought of it as a gift until now. It is easy for me to put into words how I feel about something, but verbally expressing is difficult for me. This book is very encouraging and I appreciate how transparent the author is as she shares her struggles with being an artist. I hope everyone will grab a copy of this book to find encouragement, your artistic talent and joy in everything you do to honor God
“Our creativity is valuable as we are shaped by Him and as we live wisely to make time for it. Creative initiative comes when we understand the power and dominion in creativity.”
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Inspired Artistry: Embracing the Creative Calling (A Southern Sky Devotional) is a bit different than what I am used to in a traditional devotional. I thought this one was quite unique and refreshing to use. I loved that the author, Pamela Poole, added some of her own artwork throughout the hundred pages. Some can even be used as a coloring page. I would love to have seen her artwork in color though. I loved the colorful cover and it would have been a perfect addition of color inside. There are about twelve devotions inside the book. Each devotion includes, inspiration, scripture, encouragement and questions to be answered. The devotions are just a few pages long and can easily be done in no time. Which is perfect for those who are quite busy working, parenting, or caregiving.
I am giving Inspired Artistry: Embracing the Creative Calling (A Southern Sky Devotional) four stars.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
