There’s going to be trouble. Andy Caplet’s wife goes away, someone is out to get him, and he loses nearly everything in a storm. Amazing both himself and his unhuman friend Inspector Hobbes, he heroically rescues flood victims and uncovers something shocking. Is Andy being set up for blackmail by the apparently charming young woman who attempts to seduce him, or is something even more sinister … something even more sinister afoot? Hobbes certainly believes so, and he’s getting worried.
This is the fourth in Wilkie Martin’s unhuman series of cosy comedy crime fantasies.

The character Andy is a hoot! His misshapes are endearing. I can’t get enough of Hobbes and Ms. Goodfellow. Even Dregs is a character I seeing in the story.
I find the Inspector Hobbes series very entertaining. Occasionally repetitive, but not enough to get in the way of enjoyment.
Great book. Very witty and characters are so engaging it is a joy to read. One of the few books that made me laugh out loud while I read it. Wish there were more of these.
I have really enjoyed the Inspector Hobbes stories, especially since they are told by and from the point of view of the hapless Andy Caplet. Characters are very well developed, and you can watch Andy’s growth and strength in his interactions with Inspector Hobbes. Light, funny stories. I recommend.
This series is always good for a giggle!
