Insolent is part of the Sinister Fairy Tales Collection. It is recommend that you read the others books first as they tie together as far as questions you have remaining from the other books. This is a story about two tortured souls. Moira is a girl who has been abused and tortured by her family and beyond tormented by her wants and desires. Then you have Sol who is a man who is tortured by his past, has a vendetta that he is bound to and tormented by his wants and desires. When these two meet the world just might explode. There is heartache, darkness and dreams that I don’t think either was aware they had. This is a love story that ends up being dark and twisted and beautiful. As strange as this might sound these two are obsessed with death and each other. This story has a bit of a goth feel to it but I found that it was a beautiful story that you’re not going to be able to put down . I loved every second of it and can not wait to see what the next books bring. I do want to say too that I am not really sure what fairy tale that this was a retelling of. Maybe one I have never read or heard of before but it didn’t matter in the end. I loved it and couldn’t put it down. This is one you do not want to miss.
~ .~
Let me first start by saying this is a first read from this author for me and I can say that I was pleasantly surprised. Insolent is an extraordinarily crafted story. The writing style was creative and expressive. It was very well put together and I intend on becoming more familiar with this author and her work. Cynthia Rodriguez has definitely caught my attention with her superb storytelling skills.
So onto the story; while there was not a great likeness to the fairytale Brave, other than a few signatory details, it was still an ingenious tale. The lesson communicated within the original tale of Brave is the significance of changing your fate that in turn will change your destiny. I didn’t get that from this story, but in the overall picture that little inadvertence is inconsequential as the fates still played a hand in Moira and Sol’s destiny.
Sol is a hired assassin who kills for money. Moira and her family have been set in the crosshairs of his gun, but Moira is spared. As she becomes familiar with her captor, she also discovers just how strong she is and even though she has had a bleak existence, she wants to live and she wants to live with the monster who has captured her and now her heart.
The story is full of danger, revenge and romance, but it’s the twist and the reason as to the w̲h̲y̲ and the w̲h̲o̲ that wanted her family slaughtered that sets this book into the malevolent typecast. A worthy addition to the Sinister Fairy Tale Collection.

GREAT READ!!!
Cynthia is a new author for me and let me tell you, I’m so glad I found her. Insolent is such a great read. It’s a dark and gripping tale that’s sure to keep you on the edge of your seat and quickly turning the pages to read what happens next. I couldn’t put this one down.
Insolent by Cynthia A. Rodriguez is the story of Sol and Moira.
This is a dark ‘Romance’ read about two broken people that come together in darkness and stay there.
Moria has been used and abused by her family which has turned her dark. Sol is the one that comes in an takes but he isn’t a white knight at all. Sol is darkness to and for them them start to find their dark happiness.
Not quite how I remembered Brave actually quite a bit better
The story almost has a dream-like feel to it
Some of the scenes are so vivid others feel raw barley tangible
Love the main characters
The story is fast-paced and a bit colorful- the crimson kind just to clarify
Moira’s is quite the fiery red-haired whirlwind rising from the horrors that were once her home and delving straight into the chaos that is Sol.
Sol’s attention is captured by the vexing little thing that is Moira she should be fearing him, pleading for his mercy instead she is taunting him with her lack of emotion.
Not one to turn down a challenge he is going to keep her – just for a bit – just to break her – it’s not like he wants her forever or has any of those pesky emotions.
I really liked that our heroine was just as touched as our hero. Heck, she might even be a tad more twisted IMO. These two are explosive together. The tension between them bleeds off the pages.
I am a bit curious about his ‘best friend’ and his past – I always want more when it comes to the tortured hero and their sidekick.
Another great addition to the Sinister collection.
Insolent by Cynthia A. Rodriguez was a brilliant retelling of a fairytale. Here is no princess. The heroine is no damsel in distress. Rather she is a powerhouse who unleashed her fury and took revenge on those who abused her and wronged her. And her hero is no knight on white horse. He is a killer. He is ruthless , cold and hateful man. But only two dark souls can find solace in each other. And Insolent tells that dangerous, twisted and dark tale.
Moira has been tortured by her very own blood physically and psychologically from the very beginning. On the day she was supposed to be sold by marriage to the highest bidder, the enemies attack her home and kill everyone. And she is kidnapped by the man with cruel eyes, Sol. But they are more alike than they have imagined. Sol cannot fall for her. But Moira’s strength, perseverance and tortured soul call to him. And Moira finds compassion and empowering care in Sol. Something she never found in her own family. I love Sol’s heart and the way he protected Moira in his own twisted way. He did not coddle her but let her fly. Their chemistry is something else.
Insolent by Cynthia A. Rodriguez was a beautifully crafted intense and tragic love story. Lovers of dark romance should not miss this book.
Received ARC for Honest review
Once upon a time, there was a fair maiden used as a bargaining chip by her parents. She was not loved. She was barely tolerated. She was often mistreated.
This is not about her being saved by a prince. This is not about fairy godmothers.
Insolent is the story of a young girl blossoming into the dark temptress she was destined to be. This fairytale is going to defrost your glacial heart in the way inly a decadently dark book can. You will have a mischievous smile and an uncanny desire for…wine.
There are no “happily ever afters” in this story. Well, not the kind you are used to…but I’d say they are definitely happy.
Insolent is the sprinkles on the tasty treat of the Sinister Fairytale Collection. I don’t know whether to clap gleefully or question my own sanity…(I went with the gleeful clapping, in case you were wondering.)
I would say enjoy it…but then you might have to question yourself too. Are you up for a little introspection while devouring the darkness in these pages!?! I hope so because it is an adventure I highly recommend you embark on. Just be wary of …everyone! Oh and insolence is highly recommended.

I devoured this baby.
DE-VOU-RED.
Once I started, I couldn’t (wouldn’t) put it down (which meant that I totally extended my lunch break and ignored that whole #workthing ~ but it was sooo worth it) It was everything that my dark romance loving heart loves and then some.
Sol and Moira. I adored these two. They’ve been through so much in their lives that the darkness that lives in them isn’t hard to believe. They are strong, stubborn and though their hearts have been battered, they still have that sliver of compassion that leaks out. Their journey is all kinds of twisty, turny dark goodness. From the moment they collided there was a connection and watching as they became more to each other ~ despite all the chaos going on around them ~ was a lot of fun.
I went into this book absolutely blind: Never read the author before, didn’t know what the book would be about and I haven’t watched the fairytale in which this one is based on and I loved everything about it. The flow, the twists and turns, the fact that even though this is not a paranormal story, it had an otherworldly feel to it that just grabbed a hold of me, and the characters which were all complex and well written. Every aspect of this book worked for me and I will definitely be getting my hands on more of this author’s books

I think it is funny because just the other day, I spoke to a friend about the different kinds of heroines. You see the ones that are wishy washy. You see the ones that fall over themselves to get the guy. These heroines usually don’t have any thoughts of their own. I want more from a heroine. I want them to look into flames and see what can be, especially when everything else is no more. I loved reading this story, Insolent. It brought so much to the table. The characters were flawed physically but their flaws didn’t define them. They were more than just their flaws.
Sol and Moira were everything when it comes to characters. They were steadfast. They knew at the end of the day what they wanted. There was blood, some betrayal, but at the end of the day…. There was more love in the land that held some much cold and very little light.
