1987 “Does it burn in the dark?”Reid is a bully, but he’s still Alex’s best friend. When Reid pushes Alex and their friends into invading a historically haunted Massachusetts house, Alex knows it’s a terrible idea, but indulges his friend. What could go wrong?Inside, a mysterious Shadow looms in the darkness. The door to the house vanishes, leaving them trapped. The group flees through the tiny, … through the tiny, one-roomed house that defies logic, constantly shifting, presenting them with new doors, hallways, and rooms that seem to be plucked from their memories and fears. One by one, the Shadow hunts them, intent on burning them all from within.
Is there any way to escape? Or will they be burned from the inside out?

Inside by D.M. Siciliano.
A brilliant read. I loved the cover. That’s what drew me to read this book. I would love to see this as a movie. The special effects it would have. Great story and characters. Eerie and spooky and creepy. 5*.
This was a really good suspenseful thriller. The storyline is well written and kept your attention from the very start. I found the story creepy and hard to put down. I would recommend reading.

4.5 stars, but I like rounding up 🙂
Fans of haunted houses, this book is for you. Starting off hot (pun intended), this is a non-stop ride through a house with a personality that not even a Snickers bar will make nice. Just remember, kids, don’t go into the scary house half buried in the middle of an overgrown forest. No good will come of it. Unless you like reading scary stories about kids going into houses half buried in the middle of an overgrown forest. Then feel free to live your own story. But for the rest of us….
About half way through the story I began to wonder how Siciliano was going to wrap-up this story that seemed larger than a simple “the end”. It was a waiting game well worth it because I really enjoyed how she was able to take the story of kids stuck in a haunted house and keep it a story about kids being stuck in a haunted house, all the way to the very last page in a way that was satisfying and clever.
The half-star off is because even though Siciliano follows each of the 5 kids in their own chapters, I really had a hard time following whose chapter I was reading because they kind of all read the same. The good part was Siciliano’s writing style is smooth enough reading the chapters was easy enough to do without knowing whose head we were in, but I think that kind of defeated the intended purpose.
This book was very entertaining. It was outrageous in a great way. Unpredictable.
This was a fantastic read! What starts off as what seems to be a classic storyline delves into much deeper waters with each of the characters and outcomes. The more I read the more invested I became. Vivid depictions of the events taking place made it almost feel like watching a movie in my mind. The callbacks to late 80’s New England lingo and pop culture were also an unexpected treat. Definitely recommend!
Wow!! This was one of the most unique haunted house stories I have ever read that involves doors appearing out of nowhere and rooms appearing and changing. This book was creepy and a lot of fun. I never want to give away any details but it was quite page-turning; and I definitely had a hard time putting this book down. D.M. Siciliano is quite the writer and I’m looking forward to reading more books by this author. I highly recommend this book “Inside.”

I liked the story, it was original and engaging and very fast paced. I liked how the main character became more sympathetic and 3-dimensional as the story progressed. I enjoyed the premise of a house where you enter and the door disappears. It misses a 5 star rating, in my opinion, because it felt out of context. We had an interesting prelude that set the scene, but no background ever developed to give it depth. What was in the house? Why was it there? Where, or to what, was it herding the characters? Where did it come from? Why on earth did the town’s people act as they did at the end??? What did they know that we don’t? I feel like there had to be more to it than what we were told, to account for the reaction. The story was engaging enough to leave me wanting answers to these questions – it definitely wasn’t a “yawn and walk away” type of story. As I said, it misses 5 stars because the answers weren’t provided.
