Lieutenant Eve Dallas hunts for the killer of a seemingly ordinary history teacher—and uncovers some extraordinary surprises—in this thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling In Death series.Eve Dallas doesn’t like to see innocent people murdered. And the death of history teacher Craig Foster is clearly a murder case. The lunch that his wife lovingly packed was tainted with deadly ricin. And … tainted with deadly ricin. And Mr. Foster’s colleagues, shocked as they may be, have some shocking secrets of their own. It’s Eve’s job to get a feel for all the potential suspects—and find out why someone would have done this to a man who seemed so inoffensive, so pleasant…so innocent.
Someone Eve could easily picture dead is an old flame of her billionaire husband Roarke, who has turned up in New York and manipulated herself back into his life. Consumed by her jealousy—and Roarke’s indifference to it—Eve finds it hard to focus on the Foster case. But when another man turns up dead, she’ll have to keep in mind that both innocence and guilt can be facades…

A twist you won’t see coming!
When elementary school teacher, Craig Foster is murdered in his own classroom, Lieutenant Eve Dallas has her work cut out for her. Why would anyone want to kill a seemingly well-liked man in such a horrendous way?
The suspects line up, but none with a clear motive. As Dallas uncovers a web of secrets in the expensive, private facility her focus is split by an old flame who has returned to Roarke’s life.
Frustrated with the case and jealous of the beauty making a play for her husband’s attention, anger boils over and drives Eve to the edge.
Roarke is momentarily caught up in the past when an old lover comes to town, but damn if he’ll apologise to Eve. After all, he’s done nothing to be ashamed of and she should trust him enough to know he would never betray their love.
Will this be the end of one of my favorite couples? Can Dallas overcome her feelings in time to stop a ruthless killer before they strike again?
There are so many layers to this story! I’ve gotten used to Roarke being Eve’s rock, her sanctuary against the nightmares and the technical, lock-picking wizard behind the successful investigations of her cases. But this time, Eve is left off-balance thanks to a real or perceived slight and she flounders.
The author does a superb job of taking us into a complicated, toxic combination of insinuation and jealousy and what that can do to two strong people who seem to have it all. Eve’s vulnerability grabbed my heart in this book and the juxtaposition of the murderer makes this a re-read for my bookshelf!
I give Innocent in Death 5+ lovely kisses- this is a must read!
I have to admit I re-read all the J.D.Robb books. This one is a particular one. Eve is thrown off her game when the ex of Roarkes comes back, for him. And the killer? No wonder she is thrown. Nora Roberts is at her best.
I’m slowly making my way through JD Robb’s backlist, and this is one of my favorites. While Eve does her level best to solve multiple linked murders, a figure from Roarke’s past appears and threatens their marriage. It’s a joy to watch Eve become stronger through vulnerability and intimacy, and what I wouldn’t give to be the writer of one particular scene…
Always like J.D. Robb books. There great detective books. Lots of action.
One of my favorites but not an easy-to-read outcome. However, the one-two punch is worth the wait!
Love this whole series.
My top writer. I have entire collection (like 50+ now). Start from the beginning and fall in love with these wonderful charters. The foundation was set up in the first three books. If you haven’t read the series order them now! A must read.
Love the characters – Dallas, Rourke, Peabody, Dr. Mira, etc. They lend an authentic feel to the story! I can’t get enough of how Dallas goes about solving the murders. The thought process is amazing.
My opinion it was a great book. But I like all of J.D. Robb in Death books. I think Nora Robert’s is a great author. I would love to see a books put to movie form or at least a t.v. series
I’m an Eve Dallas fan. Don’t start with this one. Start at the beginning and get to know the ensemble. Then enjoy. Innocent in Death does the series justice.
If you have liked the series to date, you will be happy with this one, too.
Always a fast paced who done it. Never disappoints.
I love this author,I have read the whole series and other books as Nora Roberts You can’t go wrong with any of her books
I have read all the books in this series. I follow it because I love the relationships between all the main characters. They have become like family. No. I am not insane
One of the best things about the “In Death” series is that each time I read them I enjoy them just as much as the first time. With almost 50 books in the series the characters nor the plots get old. Just finished my second read of Innocent in Death and was again caught by the interpersonal play between characters. The storyline about Roark’s blind spot concerning Maggie was so out of his normal personality that it was fanasitating to watch. Of all the books in the series (and I own them all) I placed more bookmarks in this one at special moments to revisit, than I have in any of the others. Thanks again to Ms. Robb.
Start with “Naked in Death” the first one and get hooked on Eve Dallas and crew.
I figured out the murder early on and was correct. She often gives clues early on and then goes on to twist and turns. I was wondering when they would address another ex lover girlfriend actually bothering Eve. This book deals with that too. Good read.
love all the In Death series
i love this series, wonderful characters hard to pick a favorite!
I like this series of books. The peeks into what Robb imagines the future to be are interesting to read.
