Another delightful series from talented author Becki Willis is sure to make you smile.
When Hannah’s wacky Uncle Jojo gives one a gift, no one knows what to expect. I don’t think even HE knew what he has done this time.
Hannah has updated the Inn’s look and is ready for opening weekend. A Wild West show is booked and the town is coming for meals as well as entertainment.
Two handsome men vy for Hannah’s affection but her hands and mind are full with details and opening weekend jitters.
With humor, mystery and DANGER, this fun read will make you smile, all while holding your breath. Can the spirits save the day?
Hmm, how shall I label this book? Well, I’ll start by saying that it’s a sweet contemporary Western paranormal romance, and hope that covers it, haha.
Taking place in the small town of Hannah, Texas, the story centers around Hannah Duncan, new owner of the town and proprietor of its inn. An inn which, by the way, has some friendly resident “guests” that are, simply put, quite dead. The ghosts make casual appearances throughout the book, but they are not the center of attention, as Hannah has things of greater importance going on… mainly, a massive rodeo-type attraction which goes horribly wrong, and a possible murderer on the loose. Combine this with a lanky cowboy and a hunky lawyer vying for her attention, and “holy boomtown”! Hold on tight, readers, you’re in for a ride!
I enjoyed this book, despite it not being my usual type of chosen reading. The characters were all so well fleshed out, and the plot was both fun and suspenseful at the same time. There was kissing and innuendo, and a part where a particularly tight blouse pops open, but no sex scenes, which I liked. Four stars.
A solid four stars. This is the second book of Becki Willis that I have read and this one lent itself to reading with anticipation. The villains and murderer hide in plain sight and I do find the presence of the ghosts and their doings entertaining. Hannah and Walker’s deepening relationship is well portrayed and the ending is for me very satisfactory.
Hannah Duncan is preparing for the Grand Opening of the Spirits of Texas Inn. Part of the Grand Opening includes a Wild West show called Hats Off Productions. Unfortunately, the show’s main horse handler turns up dead before the event even gets started. .Fortunately, Shelton Long has been at the Inn tending to Hannah’ horses and volunteers to stand in for the dead handler. He even offers to use his prize horse, Ladybird. He also convinces Hannah to ride Ladybird during the Grand Entry.
The Grand Entry does not go quite as planned when Ladybird takes off at a gallop, with Hannah holding on for dear life. Walker Jacoby rescues Hannah from the run-away horse, but it appears that Ladybird was injured during the event.
What caused the wrangler’s death? Was it natural causes or was he murdered? What happened to Ladybird? Can Shelton hold Hannah responsible? Will the Grand Opening be the disaster that Hannah fears? Can Hannah manage to save the Inn?
Becki WIllis has done a great job of holding the reader’s attention and building suspense. The characters are very realistic and the situations are believable. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing clear to the end.
Having read a least one Ms. Willis’s book’s before I have to say I really enjoy reading her “Inn The Spirit of Trickery. Between the three ghosts and the two good looking men what is there not to like. The mystery is both intriguing and compelling. Ms. Willis characters jump off the page and her story plot is dynamic. If you like a good mystery you sure will enjoy reading this one.
Hannah is getting ready for the In the Spirits’s Gran Opening. But suddenly a man is found dead and Hannah must take some decisions about the Rodeo she contracted that must lead to some troubles. Will Hannah solve the mystery around the Rodeo’s people? She will be in danger but with her friends, humans and ghost, she will face it and probably win Walker’s love in the process. A very funny story. You will fall in love with Hannah.
Finally the wait is over for the second book in the Spirits of Texas series “Inn the Spirit of Trickery. Hannah is ready for the grand opening of the Inn her Uncle gave her as a birthday present and no matter how well she planned it, something still went wrong. Murder? Really? Hannah sure didn’t plan on that. Now it is up to Hannah, Walker, Sadie, and Fred – along with some ghostly help – to work to solve the murder and save the reputation of the Inn. A fantastic series with a bit of ghostly presence. Wonderful story and relatable characters. Kept me guessing until the end. Patiently waiting for #3 in the series. Becki Willis is one of a handful of favorite authors that I will never miss a book from.
Good read! Quick paced with detailed characters who draw you in and make you feel the experiences along with them. Check it out!
This is the second book in the series and I would recommend reading them in order. That being said, I really enjoyed the book. The characters are great and the amount of romance and suspense are perfect. Throw in some ghosts and it’s a perfect book. I did receive an ARC of this book but I’m voluntarily providing an honest review.
the inn is ready to open, and Hannah has hired some entertainment but before they can performs a body is found. who did it and who can be trusted? if you like suspense stories and ghosts who help out you will love the story. I was given a copy of the book but this is an honest review , if you have not read the first book it is ok you will still like it, but some of the people in the first book are in this one also. Hannah was gifted the town of Hannah by her uncle for a birthday present. I recommend the book if you like cozy stories.
This second book in the “inn the spirit of Texas is as entertaining as the first, I do recommend they be read in order. Plenty of ghosts, animals, food, hot men, and craziness to keep you entertained.
Absolutely enjoyable quick read. Grand opening weekend with a wild west show, ghosts and murder. Sleight of hand, a bit of trickery round out this story. Addicting series
What a fun read!
Two hunky men vying for our heroine Hannah, a dead body, interesting animals, ghosts, and an old west show. What’s not to love!! So much going on with this story and I loved every minute of it! Will the Inn survive it’s grand re-opening? Will Hannah still have an Inn by the end of the show? And will she end up alone? No spoilers, you’re just going to have to read the book!!
I received an ARC. This is my honest review.
Inn the Spirit of Trickery #2 – The Inn is up and running, and it is grand opening with entertainment scheduled. I like all the characters and there are two ghosts that make a large contribution to the story. I don’t remember Hannah being that much ditzy in the first book, but it fits the storylines. Along with murder, there’s blackmail plus. There was a Rogers/Trigger moment that told me I found the evil.
The pace is fast; the storylines intriguing and entertaining; but the Inn elements are what I cared about and enjoyed. The romantic interest of both parties has been admitted to each other and the Sisters bring a few twists to the fun. Along with a larger part for ghosts, their interaction with some of the guests was fun and heartwarming. 4*
Inn the Spirit of Legends #1 – This is an interesting story filled with good locations; good, bad and bumbling characters; and well thought out storylines. Sometimes this author writes unrealistic happenings or dialog, but with this book she’s done an excellent job. Ms. Willis does well with her descriptions of the locations and histories, along with her interesting characters, which run the gamut from intelligent to dufus to transparent. There’s humor and misunderstandings but the story flows quickly and keeps the reader interested. 5*
Plain Roots – This is my favorite book so far by this author. Well written, well planned and well executed, this story is difficult to put down, especially when the storylines come together. The story gathers mass and velocity as the pages go by. Emotions run the gamut; trust and love grow through the story gathered together in a richly woven fabric of descriptions and discoveries.
Heartwarming and heartbreaking, happy and sad results from the different meanings of family depending on the viewpoint of the characters . Most of the characters are likable and believable and interesting. The dialog is realistic. Intrigue and suspense range freely throughout the story. I contacted the author to review her work. 5*
