Chapter One…What happens when you don’t know what comes next?Jacob Wild has had a lucrative writing career, but somewhere along the way he misplaced his muse. From reading the blurb on this book you may not realize it’s actually a book within a book. The hero, Jake, is attempting to write a book before the deadline from his publisher when he meets Presley. So the reader gets snippets, chunks, and sometimes whole scenes of what he’s writing as the story moves along. Jake’s real story with Presley, although not the same, is interwoven with the story he is writing. At the end of the actual Jake/Presley book is the polished and finished book that Jake wrote. So I stopped reading after the Jake/Presley portion of the story to write my review. I then finished the story that was written by Jake, the book within the book, and added to my review.
This story is so tender and sweet. To see these two wonderful people slogging through the baggage they carry in order to see that they ARE worth something. It’s hard for me to explain what I mean by that. I just feel that Presley has so many friends that really love her and think she’s great. It’s not something they run around shouting from the rooftops, but it’s apparent in all of their actions. But she can’t see that because deep down inside she doesn’t believe that. To a certain extent, the same can be said for Jake. Both of them hold a bit of themselves back because they don’t want to bring the other one down, when everyone else around them knows they’re both beautiful inside and out and can only bring that beauty out in each other.
I wasn’t particularly happy with Gil and Gavin (especially Gil) because I felt they were disrespectful to Presley in how they went about their sex lives. In every other way they obviously love and care about her, but I don’t think it’s too much to ask for them to go to their bedrooms! I think these aspects of the story show how Presley doesn’t really assert herself to the extent that she should in fear of being left; that fear that she’s not important enough.
I would have loved to see more of Jake’s niece Abby. From the little we get to see them together it’s obvious they are important to each other. The way Jake grew up and his relationships with his mom, sister, and niece are all things that shaped him but weren’t touched on as much as Presley personal life was delved into. It didn’t hurt the story, it’s just an observation I have.
I want to note one thing that I was so glad was included. There is an observation in the shower about the height difference and the logistics. Thank you!!! I never understand how shower scenes work if you have a regular size standard bath/shower. I always wondered if it’s because I’m 5’2” with a husband over 6 feet tall or if every shower we ever had was smaller and more slippery than normal, lol.
I thoroughly enjoyed Unexpected, Jake’s book within this book. I loved the snippets we saw as he was writing so was looking forward to see it all put together. It’s about 65 pages long, so it’s a short story really. You get most of the story from Jake’s writing along the way but it’s great to see it what was added to round out the story. The epilogue alone is worth reading the story. It was awesome! I think by the end I was almost as invested in Kora and Donovan as I had been in Presley and Donovan.
The style of this book was definitely unique and really showed Nicole Edwards’ writing chops. I’ve enjoyed all of her work so far, but this put a fun spin on things.
5 stars
**Although I mention in my review a few things that bothered me about the story, the unique style of writing and the way both stories blended so seamlessly knocked those stars right back up!
Audible – Absolutely in love with Tor Thom’s voice first of all.
Jacob has writers block until he stumbles upon a woman in a coffee shop. Little does he know that he will change everything for him. Presley has been in a rut since she found her man cheating on her. She can’t come up with any new tattoo designs. Then she starts talking to Jacob in the coffee shop. Little did either of them know that they were about to change each other lives.
It’s not going to be easy, it’s not going to be smooth in places but will they have tenacity to stick it out to see where it’s going to take them?
Loved listening to this one!!!
Author Nicole Edwards takes a unorthodox style in writing Inked On Paper that is complex as well as creative. A unrivaled romance with a parallel romance along side scripted in a cleverly. A story of love and passion with two spiritual souls.
Narators Charley Ongel and Tor Thom have natural chemistry that shines through the their voice(s) tone(s). These two narated this complex story in a fun way that makes it is easy to listen to.
Audiobook Review: Inked on Paper by Nicole Edwards (Author), Tor Thom (Narrator), Charley Ongel (Narrator)
Inked on Paper is a thing of beauty. Jacob and Presley are two lost hearts looking for a way to be whole. Edwards entrances a style that is almost musical, while Thom and Ongel turn her lyrical words into a message of the heart. The melody that drives this love song will continue to haunt beyond the last page.
5 Star Review Inked on Paper by Nicole Edwards
Audio Review:
This was such an unusual story, a story within a story that had me intrigued as soon as I read the blurb.
This was an exciting book to read and I was fully invested from the first to the last chapter.
Jacob Wild is a writer suffering from writer’s block. With no end in sight he hangs out at a local cafe in the hopes that his creative juices will be lock started.
Presley Abrams, a tattooed tattoo artist is the woman who catches his eye. Thanks to a cheating ex Presley too is suffering from the same. With a deadline looming she is concerned that she won’t have an entry ready for an art contest.
The slow build in their relationship only adds to the enjoyment. Their scenes together were scorching, if only their level of communication out of the bedroom was just as good.
Watching Jacob and Presley inspire each other was heart warming.
The narration was great and enhanced my enjoyment of this story.
Inked on Paper
By: Nicole Edwards
Narrated by: Tor Thom, Charley Ongel
This is a fun read! A book inside of a book! Nicole Edwards cleverly has written the story of author, Jake and tattoo artist, Presley. They each are having a dry spell in the creativity of their careers, and when they hookup, the juices begin to flow. But is that enough to keep the relationship going? Jake is a great character, mainly because he isn’t the most secure but when he gets his mojo, we get his book excerpts of Cora and Donovan. Their story is as intriguing as Jake and Presley! Each keeps the story moving, with passion, a unique story of their sun and high passion. Along with secondary characters both making you cringe and making you smile, it’s a boon well worth the listen!
Tor Thom and Charley Ongel bring both stories to life with their wonderful narration. This team never ceases to amaze me with their talent. Great voices, amazing chemistry and a way that brings warmth and fun to the story, these two will keep those earbuds in til the very end.

Inked on Paper is a complex romance. Jake is a writer who has hit writer’s block. Presley is his neighbor who attracts Jake’s attention. As Presley and Jake grow their relationship, Jake’s creativity returns. Jake writes a steamy and intense romance. But I like how the two relationships grow in a similar way. Having two romances to follow, makes this book a 2 for 1. I think I enjoyed Cora and Donovan’s excerpts better at times. But once Jake and Presley heat up their relationship, the book takes off. We get to read all about Cora and Donovan at the end of Jake and Presley’s story.
Tor Thom and Charley Ongel narrate this complex story. Their natural chemistry makes both couples even hotter. Mr. Thom and Ms. Ongel make following this complex story fun and easy. Their narration bring all the characters to life and the story more enjoyable
