From International Best Selling Romance Novelist, Hope Hughes, comes a gripping, heartfelt tale of two lovers, fighting for the freedom to… should love and none of this means a damn thing because it’s all lies!
Lies.
I’m not Hope Hughes. I’m not some fierce woman romance machine. Hell, I’m not even a woman.
I’m a liar.
And while I refuse to believe my own BS, deceit masked in heartfelt phrases of love and devotion, I want to make her believe them. Because maybe—just maybe—if she can find the soul within my words, she’ll also be able to find the truth scribbled on my heart.
You see, I once lived for the perfect plot twist.
I just never expected to actually live it.
This is my story. Well, maybe her story. I just wish I could make it our story.
The one I’m still writing.

August aka Rhys and Fiona aka Fi and their very much perfect friendship will frustrate you to no end, make you nod your head in agreement, make you bang your head in disagreement, make you laugh with all their wonderful imperfections but most of all make you swoon with all those wonderful, perfect words that leaps off the pages and almost gives form to that ethereal emotion called love. And yes romance fans and even non fans will eat this book up.
“That’s all life is— beauty and heartbreak…”
As soon as I finished reading “The End” I completely let go and started bawling. Tears of heartbreak and tears of love&happiness.
Oh, my goodness. I loved this story so much. It was perfection. Everything and more you could ever want in a friends-to-lovers book.
S.L Jennings created magic with her ink-stained fingers.
“…reality is not nearly as kind. There are no heroes and heroines, only villians.”
Rhys is a romance writer under a pseudo name. He writes these epic love stories, but in reality, doesn’t believe in love at all. To him, it’s just one big lie. He considered himself a writer of lies. So, he spends his life jumping from woman to woman to satisfy his needs.
Fi is a hopeless romantic. Every relationship she’s had, she falls in love and ends up completely broken just to have Rhys help pick up the pieces.
Match made in heaven, right? Lol…
In the beginning of the book, you don’t get a sense that these two have feelings for one another. They share this beautiful friendship that is even mentioned to caring for each other as one would a pet, lol.
This book was HILARIOUS! Rhys’s internal and external dialogue had me in tears from laughing so hard.
So, anyway, one incident leads to another where our main man starts to realize that he may like Fi as more than something just platonic, where anyone within a five mile radius can tell these two were meant to be more than just friends.
I don’t want to give any of the story away. This is a book I promise you will enjoy.
There’s comedy, there’s angst, there’s heartbreak, there’s love, there’s more heartbreak… I mean, I cried!!!
Please, please! You guys have to pick this book up and read it!
These are two of my favorite quotes from the book…
“The most epic story I’ve ever written is the one I’m still living.”
“Because to me, love was a fantasy. A fairytale. And Fiona is and always has been the happiest of ever afters. She’s my ghost. My reason for trusting in something as intangible and lucid as the air whistling through my clenched teeth as I push inside Paradise.” — still crying my eyes out!
This is actually a favorite book of mine. I have read it a few times. This is the story of August (or Rhys as his best friend calls him). He is a writer. He actually writes romance behind a pen name. His fans don’t know who he is. But he is famous for his romance stories. The only problem is that he doesn’t really believe in romance in real life. He goes from hook up to hook up. The only person he really cares about is his best friend Fiona. They are just friends but when she gets serious with another man he starts to see that his feelings are more. Especially since the man that she is serious with is a lying jerk and is just going to hurt her. Now he is trying to convince her that her new love is no good and he is. But he isn’t know to be the warmest person also. And in the midst of all this the world discovers who he really is and everyone is shocked that he is in fact not a female writing romance from a female point of view. That adds more drama to his life. He has to find out how to be really happy. It might be for once to be honest and not be concerned about himself so much.
This is one of my favorite books because the characters are so real. I love Fiona. I can relate with her indecision in life. But my favorite is the narrator, the main character. I loved following his train of thought. At times he made me frustrated with his decisions. But he also made me laugh and no wonder his fans fell in love with writing. The author did a great job on making the reader a fan of this fictional character.
I highly suggest this book to romance fans. This is a must read. I guarantee everyone will fall in love with this story. Warning, it’s hard to put down. And when you are done reading you will be so in love with it you will probably read it again (like me).
