I devoured the first book in this series, Shunned, and then dived into this one thinking that maybe I would slow down with it a little….I lied to myself big time and knew it by the time I hit the third page of the first chapter. Steffanie has crafted a plot with so many insane layers that I found myself, once again, sucked into the insane world of Miskatonic Prep and not coming up for air until I completed this installment. This story is packed with everything from ghosts, ghouls, evil parents and school staff/students, a crazy evil god, and more. Hazel still has me rooting for her as she finds out more of the history of this insanely dark school along with her plans for revenge against her bullies and how to defeat something that’s older than time…she also learns that the true evil to fear is not what is under the school, but who funds it. This girl doesn’t lose her wit, snark, or bravery – no matter how hard the situation may be – and I love that about her so much.
Ayez, Trey and Quinn all broke my heart when their truths came to light and I was happy to see the three of them do some things to get on the road to redemption – but it’s definitely a pothole ridden one. I loved how the chemistry seemed to explode between Hazel and her boys as the plot grew more tense as well.
I would like to deem Steffanie as a cliffhanger queen though, because this one is definitely one I didn’t see coming. I love how this author has laid out the plot, it’s unfolding beautifully, and the characters are fantastically built (no matter how evil they may be). This story is dark, evil and so hot – I can’t get enough of it. I already downloaded the next book to dive back in, I am salivating over
I’ll admit after I read Shunned I binge read the rest of the series. Initiated is getting another 5-star rating from me. It was a page-turner that I couldn’t put down. I love the characters. I love the angst. I love the slow buildup of trust between the characters. The sleuthing was spectacular. The twists and turns were outstanding. Again, if you love dark, bully, enemy to lover romance series – I would highly recommend this series.
What can I say about this book except for WOW!! Loved it. And I loved all of the characters too. A dark presence. An initiation. A tattoo. A wicked headmistress. Three gorgeous guys who are changing for the better. Or are they? Just started the next one. Hell yeah!!
This book is so twisty, turvy, and such a. surprising ending. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. Really strong characterization and an interesting storyline.
I was so drawn into the first book in this series, I just had to get into book 2. The bullying has stopped from the Kings, but other students at Derleth are still not happy that Hazel is there. Also, there is the whole mystery of what happened to the students and how to possibly save them. Hazel is on a mission. But she’s also weary, she doesn’t know if she can trust Trey, Quinn and Ayaz. But she’s also drawn to them in ways she doesn’t quite understand.
There is so much drama, heat and mystery in this series, it’s almost impossible to put the books down. I love the differences between Hazel’s relationship with each of the Kings. I also love Greg and Andre and what they bring to the story.
I can’t wait to read the rest of the series, each book seems to end with a cliffhanger more enticing than the last!
