“What is it about us, angel? Is it that I make it hurt? Or is it that I make you like it?” Love isn’t easy for a man raised on hate. Plain and simple. When David took Lianna Mercier to destroy her, he didn’t know that he’d fall for her. A mistake he’d happily make again… because now she’s his entire world. But he’s not the only monster at her door. She’s still heir to a family name steeped in … monster at her door.
She’s still heir to a family name steeped in blood and violence, a criminal family that she’s too innocent to face alone, and they’re coming for her. He’ll die before he lets her go, because losing her will only end one way – with him eating a bullet.
The only problem is… can he even ask her to choose him after all he’s done?

3 1/2 Uncomfortable Stars….
I read the first book in the Fragile Ties Series by Jennifer Bene because I enjoy dark romance, I had not read any books by her and was curious. This book, the second in the series, was an easier read in some ways than the first. We get to know more about David and Lianna’s past, why they are as they are. I loved David’s shock that he loves her and how that comes about. But, and this is a big but, the abuse he inflicts on her is cringeworthy and not cool at all. Yes, I will read book 3, “Redemption”, I have to know how this ends
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy from Hidden Gems.
Another amazing book. I would give this book more than 5 stars along with the first book Destruction. Another well written book. Although the storyline is dark and twisted, it’s darkness is balanced with the light and romance. I can’t get enough of this series. My only disappointment is havj b to wait for book 3 of the series. If dark romance is your genre you won’t be disappointed, just a little tired from reading until the wee hours of the night.
I really enjoyed the continuation of David and Lianna’s story together and I can’t wait for more! I didn’t feel it was quite as dark as the first book but still dark!
In book two, Inheritance, we find David having a difficult time adjusting to his life with Lianna as many secrets have been revealed.
” Lianna was his kryptonite, his one weakness, and after all their months together he’d accepted it. She was still his obsession. His focus. Only now she was his. To protect, to shield from all the darkness.
“Well, all of the darkness except his own.”
He’s struggling to control her, to changed her mind and to agree with his opinions. She’s slowly starting to realize that the family she’s never known means something to her and she wants to meet them.
“Neither of them were okay. They were still wrong in oh-so-many ways.”
As their story continues, David’s friend Harry tries to help him out of his darkness and see some light.
Harry asks, “Is hate really the hill you want to die on?”
David has some serious decisions to make.
“A life with her, or without her.”
Ms. Bene wraps up book two nicely. I’m anticipating the last story in this series, Redemption, to see just how much the light shines and the darkness fades.
The push and pull between David and Lianna continues in Inheritance. Their relationship has changed on many levels but David’s underlying vices and deep-seated execration of her family continues to pollute their life together and his ability to understand Lianna and truly be there for her. The story is dark and gritty at times but exactly what one needs and expects from Jennifer Bene!
Lianna and David’s story continues in this second book of the trilogy, and oh man, I felt their turmoil! Liannas’s decisions have awakened the sleeping monster, and the beast has been unleashed! It was so volatile, yet Lianna’s strength to stand her ground was amazing. David may have his own brand of love, but when he realizes just where he needs to be, is it fight or flight? What of Lianna’s family? Do they have good intentions for her? Hold your breath – their journey isn’t over!
this is the 2nd book of a series. greatly written and i would highly recommend reading the first book first or you wont know entirely what’s going on. just a warning the first book might be a trigger for some folks. but well worth the read i promise. Jennifer Bene really has a way of drawing you in.
I absolutely loved the first book,Destruction.
In Inheritance both Lianna and David are trying to come to terms with their pasts, their present and their future.
The emotions from what they have lived, breathed and gone through are still lingering and come to life in a blink of an eye.
Add all that up and they have one turbulent relationship.
They are voitile together.
They are dynamic together.
They are explosive together.
But they can’t stay away from one another.
When an outside force is added into the mix things get even more heated for Lianna and David and causes more upheaval in their lives.
There is a war brewing inside each of them.
Their emotions and feelings are simmering and overflowing.
They need to come to terms with them and with the external players or risk losing it all.
This is an emotional journey for David and Lianna.
What a amazing roller coaster ride of emotions. This a second book that is a amazing read that will have you hooked from the first page.
Wow! Second book as good as the first if not better. Well developed characters. I was sucked right into the story! My review will not be too detailed because so much goes on and it is much better that you read yourself.
David and Lianna live together now and she has been going through a lot since her fathers’ demise. Enter an uncle, who she barely knows, from her past. David automatically doesn’t trust or even like Jean-Luc Faure. Jean-Luc manipulated and therefore fixed all of Lianna’s problems. David has an epiphany and knows he’s all in for Lianna. He professes his love for her and she for him. Jean-Luc has invited them both to France to meet her other side of the family. Jean-Luc is dirty just as Lianna’s father. David agrees to go with her to look after her and keep her safe.
Loved the book! Cannot wait to see what happens next!
the anxiously awaited book 2 of the fragile ties series was so worth the wait!
jennifer bene is a master at putting her readers through a roller coaster of
emotions!! and i LOVED it! lianna and david’s story has put me through the wringer LOL. i have been on the edge of my seat the whole time i was reading it…i can’t wait to read what comes next for these two characters!
I am still reeling from the emotional journey this one took me on. It was like having my heart ripped from my chest, stomped on, shoved back in, and the wound covered with a bandaid. It was beautiful! The pain, fear, anger, distrust, passion, explosive heat, love… It was gripping. I am in awe of Ms. Bene’s ability to draw me in and make me live in her characters. The story is pure perfection from beginning to end!
I knew this was gonna be a rollercoaster of emotion, the first one about killed me!
David, he’s dark, damaged and utterly ruthless…….and has only one weakness…….Lianna.
Lianna is still trying to deal with the past, with David, just everything. Can these two have an actual relationship? Or is the past too strong to overcome?
I have no clue what’s happening next, Ms. Oblivious here, I’m not even gonna try to imagine what’s coming in the next story…….this one was enough for now……I have an emotional hangover and need to go recover now.
Par for the course from a certain dark, twisty author. Probably why I keep coming back for more…….addicted just a bit!
This is the second book in in the Fragile Ties Series and I do recommend reading them in order. How can David love Lianna when he hates her family? He wants his revenge but he also wants Lianna, which will he choose? This is a fast-paced emotional read with lots of drama and suspense. The intensity of their relationship really draws you into the story and takes you a wild ride. I was hooked from beginning to end. I loved it!
I loved this book! In general, i usually find the second book of a trilogy to be a weak link between the first and third book. That is so not the case with Inheritance. Now that David has told Lianna the truth of her past, they must find a way to move forward with theirs lives. This book is very well written and truly addresses “both sides of the same coin” in a way that made me fall deeper in love with these characters. I await the finale with bated breath! I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Jennifer Bene you are author extraordinaire! Your books are always written with emotion and gusto. Your characters are well thought out and exemplary.
Lianna makes the reader feel sad and angry on her behalf. She is character who life and circumstances keep pushing but she survives with her light still shining.
David makes the reader cheer for him, his strong, dark, Alpha male presence makes me hope that he wins in the end.
The Faure’s, and Jean-Luc in particular have me guessing what their ulterior motive is, and what will happen to this couple.
Looking forward to reading book three!
I absolutely love Jennifer Bene’s deliciously dark stories. They always hit the spot and are never weak on shocking twists. I loved David and Lianna’s connection as they continue their volatile relationship.
David and Lianna were just as dark and sexy. There was something about their relationship that I could not get enough of. I loved David in Destruction but I loved him even more in Inheritance as he has to decide what is more important – his love for Lianna or his revenge. I seriously can’t wait for more! 4 stars! ~Ratula
This was amazing the dialogue is so well written and we feel everything David and Lianna are experiencing and it was suppose to be easy but nothing is easy in their world for darkness is coming once again and the struggles are so real as they try to face it together and hold back the demons that want to explode and its downright earth shattering as we watch this couple cope in an impossible situation with only their love to hold them together. I loved loved David and his will to keep the monster hidden also Harry who gives the best advice they capture your heart give you their all, honest feelings and now Im almost afraid for them with the things I think are coming.
Is hate really the hill you want to die on?”
What a perfect line for this story!
A hill can become a slippery slope. That will make the climb up so much harder or easier to slide to the bottom.
There is such a struggle for these two to resolve what has and is happening in their lives and relationship.
The emotional turmoil is well written, gripping and relatable it made it impossible to out this down until the last page.
There is still incredible heat, chemistry and intense feelings for Lianna and David that pulls you in deeper and deeper. I can’t wait for the next book!
Jennifer’s stunning story of Lianna and David
Jennifer is one of my top 10 authors and this one did not disappoint. I read Destruction, which was book 1 in this series back in 2017, so reread it first before beginning the continuing story of Lianna and David. Lianna’s world has been destroyed from her father’s fallout until her uncle comes onto the scene. Will David’s hatred of Lianna’s family destroy their relationship? You have to read to find out and will not want to put the book down until you turn the last page!
