Right from the beginning of this series Anotinio has rubbed everyone up the wrong way and we finally find out why, this book has a lot more emotion in it than the recent ones and boy does it punch you in the gut once sometime really serious is revealed to the guys. Antonio and Bethany hook up after both going to an out of town bar to get away from life and be someone else for the night, neither realised meeting each other would change their lives, Bethany now has to get use to the danger the Jackals face when they go to fight a fire, work out if she can open herself up to a man and work out what the hell is actually going on with her brother. I loved that while we see all this going on for Bethany we also have Antonio working through his feelings as well as having to go home, somewhere he hasn’t been since he walked away all those years a go and oh yeah both of the have secrets from their past they had no idea about and once revealed you are left guessing if they will make it together or if they need to be on their own to work through the revelations!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
When Bethany and Antonio spend a hot night together, they figure it’s a one time thing and they’ll never see each other again, unfortunately. Thank God karma had something else in store for them, though, and has them meet up in Missoula, where they both live.
A relationship is not going to be easy between these two, though. Antonio in particular, has demons that make him rather hard to get to know, and neither is looking for commitment or a relationship. And yet, they seem to keep falling into bed with each other. She craves his domination and his brand of domestic discipline, and he feels some peace when he’s with her, so they continue seeing each other while not really nailing down exactly what they are to each other. When his drunken behavior makes her ghost him, and he has to head home to Jersey for his ex’s funeral, will he be coming back to the woman he realizes he’s in love with, or will Bethany still be intent on shutting him out of her life? And what about her brother’s mess and the Dreyfus’ clan after her? Can she subject Antonio to the mess of her life, even if she’s willing to take him back?
I mostly liked Inferno. It’s pretty hot if you can stomach or like domestic discipline, which is actually fairly light here. And the suspense and intrigue of the ongoing arc of the Dreyfus family is compelling. Both Antonio and Bethany are interesting, layered characters, but I just didn’t connect with Antonio that much. He was a little too aimless and insecure for my tastes. I wanted him to man up and quit being so down on himself. He gave up on things and people way too easily and it was really frustrating to read. I liked Bethany a lot though, and Inferno is hot and well-written, so I can justify 3.5 stars.
