Inferno is the explosive, most anticipated, final book in Donna Grant’s Dark Kings series featuring Con, the King of the Dragon Kings! I knew what I wanted. And nothing was going to stop me. King of Dragon Kings. Driven, ruthless, shrewd. The weight of survival for Constantine and his brethren has pushed him to set aside his own yearnings–for now. He’s the most powerful of all Dragon Kings, and … the most powerful of all Dragon Kings, and Con will stop at nothing to destroy anyone who dares to threaten his existence.
For years, Con has hidden his pain–his desperation–for there is one smoldering beauty that he craves above all else, even if he feels he doesn’t deserve her. However, his enemies are at every corner. There is no one left to trust. But none of that matters anymore: There is only one thing that Con wants. With this one woman by his side, he can fight for the freedom of his fellow men-in-arms. All Con has to do is get her to surrender her heart…and be his for all time.

This is the last full-length book of Donna Grant’s Con, the Dragon King, and his denial of his mate years and years ago. Now his mate has her own challenges, not only how she feels towards Con, but also her hatred for the woman who was her friend and Queen of the Light Fae. There are so many twists and turns and details and the sub-stories are touched on. Some of these are resolved in this book, but others are tantalizingly left open. Ms. Grant is a weaver of stories that literally has you on the edge of your seat and this story was no different.
What a fabulous finale to this amazing series! Seriously swoon worthy and sexy – the King of Dragons stole my heart!
I read a lot of thrillers and suspense, but when I want to escape to a passionate fantasy world Donna Grant is my go-to author. She never disappoints, and her dragon kings are explosive. If you like paranormal romance with fantastic world-building, you’ll love this book.
“You want me to believe the child is still alive. It isn’t.”
Wow-what a freaking amazing book. I had a feeling several books back as to who Rhi’s dragon was. But nothing prepared me for any of what happens in this story. And the battle of epic proportions that is about to unfold and the secrets are just coming out of the library!!! What or who is next? Wow more, please…
“Rhi was his everything. His mate, his soul, his better half. Whatever name you put to it, that’s what she was.”
Being King of the Dragon Kings, Constantine has pushed aside his own wants and dedicated his life to ruling. He has hidden his pain for his mate for hundreds of years, and he has finally decided it is enough. He will do everything he can to win Rhi back and defeat their enemies.
To start with, when I realized that Rhi’s king was Con I wasn’t exactly happy about it, nor really sad. I think I was more indifferent about it really which is why I put off reading this book for a while. I was actually pretty surprised by how much I enjoyed this book and the ending of the series overall.
Rhi and Con have a lot of hurt feelings to work through in this book. Con broke Rhi’s heart when he called off their relationship, along with other transgressions. Rhi hurt Con when she was with Balladyn. So this was just a lot of these two working out their issues while trying to find and defeat Usaeil and Moreann. I actually enjoyed their relationship and how determined Con was to win her back.
The end of this series is bittersweet. I have been reading this series for years now and am sad to see it go. But I know it isn’t completely over because there will be a new side series coming and I can’t wait to find out what is going to happen in it.
This book is everything I have been waiting for and so much more. The others are falling apart. The Dragons are united in their goal to protect the humans. Their biggest fear is Usail and Moran.
A plan is created. A trap is set. A wrong has been righted. Will one conquer all or will jealous come out the strongest. The battles are dramatic. The conflicts are many. The thrills gave me chills. The “WOW” moments had be screaming.
One of the best things about this story, all the secrets that were revealed. Donna Grant has been whispering in my ear for hours. It was the best!! I think it is time to pick my chin back up off the floor.
This whole series has been entertaining and awesome! I’m so glad Con and Rhi’s story is finally here! It has been too long! I have been angry that Con made such a bad choice in regards to Rhi, but I still wanted Con and Rhi to find their happy ending. I do feel like Con made up for his bad decisions, but I do think that everyone shouldn’t have said that Con made the right choice; there had to be a much better way to handle things. I felt his decision reflected bad on the other dragons because he didn’t think they could handle his happiness, so that makes it seem like they are weak to me. I can’t believe it’s been thousands of years since Rhi and Con were last together; that is way too long to be apart, Rhi could’ve been a partner for Con. She could’ve been a benefit for all the dragons; not a hinderance, but I get that there was a lot of growing both needed to do. Loved Rhi for a long time; she has such a great heart and she kicks major butt too! Con has been majorly stupid in the past; can’t believe he went anywhere near Ubitch, but he has a good heart too and is supportive of everyone.
Still lots of awesome intrigue and action going on too! Stage 5 clinger psycho Ubitch is still an immature moron causing problems. Plus, the leader of the Others is still out there, and now some Druids are missing. Lots of danger to be had! The world building for this whole series and the companion series (Reapers and Warriors) has just been totally amazing! Loved seeing lots of characters working together! Looking forward to reading more stories set in this cool world! There’s still lots of character’s stories to be told!
The last ????!!!! in the Dark Kings series. (Please say it isn’t so) One of the most powerfully written books in the series. I shed many tears at the ending.
An epic ending to an epic series!
I can’t get over the fact I followed this series for 18 books and it ended on a very fitting note.
Due to an “uh-oh” by the publisher the big reveal (who was Con’s mate) was revealed months ago. It didn’t stop the anticipation of this book though. We had to know how they got together and just why it all fell apart.
There’s a couple of evil women who have to be dealt with.
There’s a secret weapon that needs to be recovered.
And maybe a couple other things you have wondered about but never dared to hope they’d be answered.
If you’ve come this far, you need to read this one to get it all straight!
This is the final book in the Dark King Series. This is the story I have been waiting to read. Throughout the other books you only get a glimpse of what truly Constantine is as a human/dragon. In this this book you learn about how he suffered through his life and what he did to save and protect the other Dragon Kings.
Throughout this book there are many twists and turns. This is the best book in this series. Action packed, romantic also heartache. The question is will Con finally get the happiness he so deserves? Will his mate forgive him for how he hurt her so much? Will UB@@@h finally get her revenge and destroy everything for her own gain?
I recommend this book to anyone who loves a great story with twists and turns and leaves you will still unanswered questions.
A long anticipated book that was well worth the wait. It was a wonderful story tying up a lot of loose ends, and bringing more anticipation for the next series…Dragon Kings. Donna Grant did an outstanding job with Inferno. It had me on an emotional roller coaster. I took my time reading it because I didn’t want it to end. I was especially happy there was more after the enemies were taken care of than just the Epilogue. Many books end with the enemies being fanquished, thankfully that wasn’t the case with Inferno. Absolutely loved it!
A fantastic, whip lash inducing, clutch your chest and swoon conclusion to this series! Con has finally had his story told. We see the man behind the tightly guarded emotionless leader of the dragons. Not only his love story with his mate, but also a story of brotherhood. We see how the other Dragon Kings have seen him through the millennia that he has been King of Kings, his burdens are heavy and they are aware. Together they form a brotherhood like none other.
This story also gives us some hidden glances into the next direction that Donna Grant is planning on going. I truly hope we get to see a HEA for Henry in the near future!
So this is the end of this series. She is having a spin off of this series so I understand her ending this book the way she did. Were there things I didn’t like about this book yes but overall it’s still worth 5 stars. You learn a lot of the secrets you have been wanting to know throughout this whole series. Does some of it make sense, no. Rhi and Con finally get their happily ever after with some weird stuff thrown in. It was really great to see all the Warriors and Druids again. It was great to see everyone come together in this book for all of Earth. I think everyone got what they deserved. I think a lot still needs to be answered. Overall I am happy for this book and how it turned out.
This is the last full-length book of Donna Grant’s Dark Kings series. And what a finale! The bulk of this book deals with Constantine, King of Dragon Kings and King of the Golds (and a Dragon), and the repercussions of his denial of his mate thousands of years ago. He has reached a critical state, and his friends and trying to convince him to reach out to her and attempt to bridge the chasm between them. And while this part of the story is being told, his mate has her own challenges, not only how she feels towards Constantine, but also her hatred for the woman who was her friend and Queen of the Light Fae. So many details and ins and outs are presented to the reader, and more of the sub-stories are touched on. Some of these are resolved in this book, but others are tantalizingly left open. Ms. Grant has said that she is going to continue with her Dragon Kings in another spin off series starting in 2021. I, for one, cannot wait for the next book. If you are looking for a long term read, with Paranormal Fantasy and Romance themes, then Donna Grant is the author you should read. Start with her Dark Highlanders, and then move through her Dark Sword series, and into her Dark Kings and Reapers. Her Dark World is an exciting and enticing set of books. You won’t be disappointed.
4.5 stars–INFERNO is the final instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult DARK KINGS paranormal, romance series focusing on the Dragon Kings and the women they love. This is Gold Dragon King, King of Kings Constantine’ storyline.
SOME BACKGROUND: The DARK KINGS is a spinoff from Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland, including the latest spin off about the Fae executioners known as the REAPERS. The Dragon Kings have a new enemy with the recent appearance of a group known as the Others, but their true identity and membership is currently unknown. As each Dragon King falls in love and finds his mate, King Constantine is pulled further away from the woman he loves, a woman he betrayed thousands of years earlier.
NOTE: If you have not read the previous few instalments, there may be some spoilers in my review. I have purposely not revealed the identity of Con’s mate.
Told from several third person perspectives INFERNO follows Dragon King Con, King of Kings as he prepares to reclaim the woman he loves. Thousands of years earlier, Constantine found his mate and fell in love but in the years that followed none of his fellow Dragon Kings had found their mate, so to focus on the Kings and the war with the Fae, Constantine walked away from the woman he loved, destroying both of their hearts in the process. Thousands of years would pass, and most of the Dragon Kings would find their mates but Constantine watched from the sidelines as his friends and fellow dragons fell in love. Knowing he hurt the woman he continues to loves, Con struggled to reveal the truth about the how and why, and in doing so, continued to punish his chosen mate. With the urging and push from the other Dragon Kings, Con goes on the offensive in an effort to reclaim the woman he loves.
Meanwhile, former Light Fae Queen Usaeil, back from the dead, continues to seek revenge against the Rhi and the Kings, proclaiming herself to be Queen of All Fae but in order to achieve her goals, Usaeil needs more magic and power, and to do so , requires the sacrifice of someone with the power she needs.
INFERNO is a culmination of close to thirty Dark Kings story lines (including novellas), four series, and several years of reader loyalty, and the inevitable climax wherein Con is finally reunited with his fated mate. For fans of the series, Con’s mate was ‘well-known’ secret; a continuous tease by the author, but a secret that was more or less a foregone conclusion.
Several characters from all four series and spin offs played secondary and supporting roles, pulling together in an effort to end a war before it began. Secrets and surprises are revealed; twists and turns divulge information never before exposed, and in doing so, sets the stage for yet, another series spin off. A number of plot points have yet to be resolved including Henry and Meliss, the location and rescue of Useail’s nephew; and the truth about the dragons sent into the otherworldly portal-hopefully they will be addressed in the upcoming new release.
INFERNO is a story of enduring love, heart breaking pain, betrayal, revenge, revelations and happily ever after. The premise is exciting, twisted, intriguing and heart warming; the romance is intimate and captivating; the characters are colorful, energetic, familiar and animated. INFERNO is a wonderful and welcome conclusion to Donna Grant’s DARK KINGS series.
SPOILERS – Read at your own risk
First, long time fan of the series, the world, the spinoffs, and the author. I enjoyed this book until about chapter 40. At that point, the more I read, I found myself guessing the EXACT direction things were going. This proved to be disappointing.
BIG SPOILERS AHEAD – last chance to avoid it
I guessed that Con was Rhi’s king around the 5th or 6th book. It was just so obvious to me that I was in no way shocked when this was leaked earlier this year. With that knowledge for basically 10+ books, why would I ever be ok with Con sleeping with Usaeil when she is revealed as Rhi’s birth mother? That is gross and I couldn’t get past it. I saw Grant setting it up but hoped she wouldn’t do this. The icing on this gross cake that yes, I guessed it as well, Rhi and Con have kids. Erith is supposed to be Con and Rhi’s friend and she kept these massive secrets from them for YEARS. I can’t accept her reasoning and neither should Con and Rhi. WHY did Grant have to make Usaeil her mother? WHY allow them to have twins that know of their parents but the parents don’t know of them? WHY let these twins be leaders of the dragons(that were sent away)on another realm? This is how you finish this epic tale? I can’t believe the sex isn’t even addressed as YUCK after it’s revealed. WHY would Grant do this to these beloved characters? They had already been through so much that this was unnecessary. We already knew Rhi was going to defeat Usaeil. We already knew Rhi was a better queen. We already knew Rhi was loved by her people. We did NOT need for her to have a blood relation claim to the throne. Making Usaeil her mother was so uncalled for. Did Grant think no one would find it gross that mother and daughter had sex with the same man? Honestly, when I realized this was happening, I could no longer read any of the steamy scenes with Con and Rhi. Any time they kissed, it made me cringe. So disappointed.
Again, I guessed that Melisse is the weapon because she was a dragon. It was a nice twist to make her half dragon half dark fae and the first dragon queen. I’m going to go ahead and guess that Henry will be her mate eventually. Also going to go ahead and guess that the daughter of Con and Rhi is going to be one of the kings mates.
I wish Grant would have explored the storyline about returning the dragons to the healing fae realm more than the storyline about that book(which was a journal penned by Erith) and its secrets.
Final thoughts
I enjoyed part one and two of this book. I did not enjoy part three. I recommend this series often and will continue to do so. But this book was disappointing considering it is the end of this series. I just think Con and Rhi deserved a better book. I know there are spinoffs in the works and look forward to reading them. This book did not turn me away from wanting to read more from Grant. I look forward to her next reaper book and 1001 novella.
I have been waiting for this book for over 5 years since a close friend recommended the Dragon Kings series to me, and as always, Donna Grant does not disappoint. This book has it all and more and just made me fall in love with the Dragon Kings all over again.
I got to visit with all my favorite characters, got the answers I’ve been dying to know and Con finally gets his HEA. Lets not forget about Rhi. She is strong, opinionated, a warrior thru and thru, and has the biggest heart ever. Their story has been building thru every story in this series, and Inferno was worth the wait.
This is part of a series, and one I can’t recommend more highly.
Inferno promised and Donna Grant delivered. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. This finale to the Dark Kings is packed full with all the answers we as readers have asked during our multi-book journey while simultaneously revealing surprises we never saw coming. It is a story that stays with you, encouraging you to contemplate and reminisce, letting it all settle in.
Inferno is the final book in this particular story arc. It ties up many unanswered questions between Rhi and Con. It also answers questions to questions you didn’t even think to ask. If you are in doubt whether or not to read this book, the answer is yes. You need this book in your life.
This book is not a stand-alone, if you have not read the series you will want to start at the beginning to get the full and explosive impact of this book.
The King of Golds. The King of Kings. Constantine. Finally! Anyone who has been along for the ride of the Kings has been waiting for this book. Most of the books can be read out of order, I did it with no issues, however not this one. To truly enjoy the full impact of the end of this story arc, read the others first! Even if the surprise of Rhi’s King was told to you, trust me when I saw that was NOTHING compared to the other things that happen in this book.
Con and Rhi have been in pretty much every single book since the start, and to finally have their book is just WOW. So much I didn’t see coming. So many questions answered. I laughed and I cried and I screamed like a crazy person when bombs were dropped. This book was everything. It ended this part of the series perfectly but left the door wide for the spinoff. YES! There will be a spinoff and the first book is in Jan 2021. The only thing changing is the series name. It will no longer be Dark Kings, but finally called Dragon Kings.
Normally the last book in a series is bittersweet for me, this was not one of them. I am just as excited for the spinoff as I was when I picked up Dark Heat all those years ago. I can’t wait for the next journey Donna Grant has in store for us.
