I usually am not a fan of vampire books but this one most definitely peaked my interest. It’s mysterious, sexy and worth the read!
In this book, we meet Piper who is looking for a job and the search is getting desperate. The temp agency gives her the opportunity to work to be a housekeeper for a group of wealthy and conceited men.
Piper has to keep her job but feels compelled to keep her job when she breaks her employers’ priceless vase. The rich men have a deadly secret that they’ll do anything to protect it but Piper has to live through it.
Piper is starting her job as the line-in maid of a home that houses six hunky occupants. While Piper finds the rules a little weird and some archaic (who calls their bosses masters?), she finds a routine in cleaning the house during the day and fantasizing about her bosses at night. Each of the men have their own personality (and secret talent) that affect Piper in different ways. Although some are frustrating and some are flirting, she finds herself attracted to all of them. However, when their secrets come to light, Piper’s world will be forever changed. Just like she rolls with the punches life has dealt her, Piper rolls with these changes and finds herself finding that sense of routine again. But, when an old friend of the family visits and decides that he wants Piper for himself, will her bosses protect her?
This book ends with a cliffhanger, and I am looking forward to what happens next. There is an air of mystery surrounding this book, as well as a level of sexiness that promises so much more. I devoured this story in one sitting and will be looking into the following books in the series!
4 stars
Indebted to the Vampires is the first book in the House of Durand Series by Erin Bedford. It is a paranormal romance story- a reverse harem fantasy, with vampires, drama, danger, tension, angst, suspense, and interesting characters.
This was my first read by Ms. Bedford, but she already had me at the mere mention of ‘vampires’. And even though Reverse Harem isn’t my go-to sub-genre, I was intrigued enough by the premise of the story to want to dive right in.
The story was fun, if not just a little predictable and corny in places. But it definitely entertained me right from the beginning. The characters were all really well developed individuals, with their own unique personalities, quirks, and flaws. They were an eclectic mix, but all added their own flavour to my reading experience.
There were a few minor editing issues with the story – punctuation problems, and the use of wrong words etc- but these issues didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of the story. (Kindle edition- verified purchase on Amazon Au)
Piper Billings hasn’t had a very good run of late. She’s is in desperate need of a job, any job really. So, when the employment agency calls about a live-in cleaning position, Piper is in no position to refuse the offer. She arrives at the address, to find a sprawling mansion- and discovers that her new ‘bosses’ will be six mysterious, demanding, and quite ‘snooty’ brothers. Piper’s clumsy nature soon comes into play, when she accidentally smashes a priceless vase. So, with that, any thoughts she may have had about leaving are now out of the question, as she becomes indebted to her new employers. But things in the household are a little strange, her employers are entirely too mysterious and are definitely hiding something. Piper’s sassy and inquisitive nature is about to get her in trouble. What she discovers will turn her world upside down. But also places her in a bit of a sticky situation, because the House of Durand will go to extreme measures to protect their secret.
Join Piper, along with the Durand brothers, Antoine, Marcus, Wynn, Drake, Allister, and Rayne- and discover what happens for yourself.
I am invested in this story and the characters, so I will definitely be reading the rest of the series asap!
Thank you, Erin Bedford!
I give Indebted to the Vampires (House of Durand Book 1) by Erin Bedford, 5 stars.
This is such a wonderful Paranormal Romance!! I literally could not put it down. Incredibly hot sexy vampires? Check. And not just one, but many. Throw in a clumsy girl with a healthy libido who badly needs this maid job, and you have a fun, quirky book that makes you feel happy reading it. Piper is just a real twenty-something most women could relate to at some point in their life. The brothers are all completely different from one another too. The author lets us see more about each one of them too, so we can better understand why they are the way they are. Not to mention that the story itself is different. I never would have thought for my main character to be a clumsy maid in a house full of vampires. Of course, there is much more going on then just this, like the attractions each one feels to Piper and vice versa. That is not all, but I do not want to give any more away.
If you like hot Paranormal Romance, this book is for you. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
OMG! Why did I not know about this book before now! I am always on the lookout for vampire books and I am so glad this one fell into my lap! This story! These vampires! That Maid! All so sassy and sexy. I devoured this book in a few hours! It’s one I read late into the night. Who was going to get the maid? What is she going to break next? Will Antoine ever smile? Will the vampire get earplugs? Ha ha that one just makes me smile. They shouldn’t listen to what they don’t want to know… right? Right?
Well this is a first time author for me. If you couldn’t tell…I LOVED this story and these characters! They are both lively. The story is engaging and easy to read with many ups and downs. I can not wait to dive into the second book to see what happens next.
Do you ever wonder what you may or may not do you in order to settle a debt that you owe? Do you ever wonder what you would consider to be too much? I always find stories that involve a debt being owed to be fascinating for character development in order to watch the internal struggle and decisions made. I found this storyline quite compelling, and found it to be a quick read. This was a book I didn’t step away from easily and found myself needing to finish the last page before I truly put it down. I highly recommend this book for fantasy lovers. Especially those enthralled by the vampire genre. I look forward to seeing how the series develops.
I loved reading this book and tore through it honestly in about 2 hours because I was so enticed by it. Erin R Bedford write this seemingly normal story that turns into this exciting, steamy story with all these twists and turns as you get to know all the characters throughout the story. You get to see why they are the way they are and why they make each decision. I think my favourite in the main character because shes so strong as sassy. She stands up for herself even though throughout the book it does get her into trouble but its admiring none the less. I’m very excited to read the next book she writes in the series!
Piper is working as a maid in a house full of vampires. Each vampire is different from each other. I have enjoyed reading the different POV from the characters. This is a very well written novel and leaves you wanting for more. This book had me on the edge of my seat as k was reading highly recommended to read especially if your into vampires and witty remarks.
Indebted to the Vampires (House of Durand book 1) by Erin Bedford is a 4 star read.
Piper Billings is a little down on her luck, she lost her job and ended up sleeping in her car so when an employment agency sends her for a live in maid position she knows she must do what she can to keep this job especially after she breaks a 15 million dollar vase. The six incredibly good looking men who live in the house aren’t making her job easy, when she finds out they’re vampires she’s not sure whether to run or stay and wonder if they will bite her. This book ends on a cliffhanger but don’t worry the rest of the series is already out.
I felt this book was a little slow to start but I couldn’t stop turning the pages, the author knew how to keep you interested and leave you wanting more.
Indebted To The Vampires by Erin Bedford. Piper is down on her luck having lost her apartment, living out of her car and flitting between jobs, she is given a final offer from the temp agency she needs to make this work. Working as a maid in the House of Durand is not at all as she expected, her bosses are unusual to say the least but also very Hot!! I absolutely love this book, Piper is anything but the perfect maid she breaks things, trips on thin air and has just the right amount of sass. She sure has caught the attention of all six brothers in the Durand household. Such a easy read, I finished this book in a few hours, I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
I loved this book. Vampire books are one of my favorites and add romance to it even better. I found this book to be well developed and engaging. The characters made the story come alive with action and romance. Piper is stuck in a job that she has to keep and to make matters worse she breaks an irreplaceable vase. Not only did she break the vase, her employers have a secret that could cost her, her life. I loved Piper! She is so full of attitude, it really made the story fun and easy to read in one sitting. I highly recommend this must read story, you won’t regret picking it up.
Ah what I wouldn’t give to be able to read the series for the first time again. Piper’s story is a great one and I love the second book even more. Piper is the strong but klutzy girl that you can only find endearing and with all those sexy vampires mmmm it is hard to just pick one and luckily Piper doesn’t have to >:)
Very enjoyable, grabs your attention right away. This book keeps you interested the whole way through. I can’t wait to continue Piper’s story.
Great start to a new series. Piper has lost her cushy job and is having to sleep in her car. She is on the last job the temp agency will send her on as she has been too picky until now. She arrives for an interview and first thing she does is break a priceless vase. Things can only go up from there; or can they?
Piper is another in Ms. Bedford’s line of female protagonists. She has a take no prisoners attitude that gets her into trouble. There are 5 brothers that each is yummier than the last. This is more of an intro book, setting up things for the series to follow. Most of the characters are well fleshed out as is the world they live in. A definite must read.
Beck yes, Piper is the best! Her inner musings alone make this book worth reading, but mix in the constant sexual tension, the boss/employee drama, her constant clumsiness and her inability to bite her tongue and you have a recipe for awesome entertainment. But the variety of personalities and the storyline make this such an amazing read. I definitely look forward to reading book two!
Piper is my favorite character, she’s extremely overdramatic and more often than not doesn’t listen so she ends up in trouble. The guys are pretty entertaining to read about and read from their points of view too. I wasn’t expecting that. If I had to solely read from Piper alone this would have been a three star read for me. Unlike most reverse harem themed stuff this doesn’t have the guys being huge assholes and that’s a nice change of pace. They’re just the right amount of sassy and annoying. I definitely laughed a lot. Although I’m not really interested in the Valentine story line (he wants her but can’t buy her) I will read on to see all these guys come together.
Favorite lines: “You know what I mean. Have you ever…” His other hand moved down along the outside of my thigh, causing them to press together. “… let a man into your glorious haven?” I snorted. I couldn’t help it. Glorious haven? Come on now. How cliché was that?
“You should mind your manners. Next time, I’ll make sure she’s here to watch.”
Scowling at him, Rayne jerked his head to the side and muttered, “Punching my face.”
“Me?” Rayne snapped. “What makes you think I did anything?” Antoine’s eyes zeroed in onto Rayne. “One hundred and fifty years of experience.”
I didn’t know what possessed me to allow them to come with me to build my house. Oh, I remember. I was a sucker.
“He is far better company and gives less lip.”
It was not surprising that the whole table stood with me. We were all a bit on edge, and the reason being was only a paltry hundred and twenty pounds of blonde simpering flesh. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
“Understandable. So, you have to decide. Do you like him or just want him to defile you in the best of ways?”
Placing a hand on his chest, Drake gaped. “I’m hurt, and here I thought we were being nice, keeping our little brother from killing you in a public place.” “So, you’re babysitting.”
“Then perhaps you shouldn’t moan so loudly while in your bedroom in a house full of vampires.”
However, if you are unable to refrain from scratching your itch on the premises, I suggest you practice orgasming without moaning like a dying cow.”
“Go find a stake and fall on it.” I spun on my heel and stomped toward the door. “Close it behind you.”
I’m stunned at the number of 5 star reviews of this book. Don’t know what I missed. Read a few chapters trying to give the story a chance. Then skimmed a few more, then gave up. Couldn’t finish it. Juvenile, way too caught up in describing sex fantasies and the heroine’s clumsiness at the expense of a plot and character development. Don’t bother.
First off this is a new series by Erin and what a great one. Good news is book 2 is out as book 1 leaves you with a book hangover. I liked the book enough to keep reading and I am glad I did. Does it leave you with questions. Yes it does but it’s not a problem to me. In a series this happens and not all answers are given right away. I personally like this book and it’s not the first I’ve read nor the last cause I like the books by Erin.
WOW!!! I was pulled in from the beginning! Fabulous paranormal/fantasy world, I absolutely love this series of books and honestly think that that Erin Bedford couldn’t write a bad book if she tried. The action starts slowly and builds, The characters are well defined early on and blossom throughout the series, you can feel the tension building between the main characters early in the series which develop wonderfully in this book. Very well written storey. There are no cliff hangers as such but each book always leaves you wanting more so be warned though once you start reading this series you won’t be able to put the books down so be prepared for some binge reading.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I CAnnot what for your next in this series to come out to see what happens been waiting n it isnt out yet
