This was not only an arranged marriage that turns real but also an intriguing mystery. When Astrid’s father gives her in marriage to Conor an Earl, in order to keep himself out of jail, Astrid is angry. But as she gets to know Conor she finds him to be kind and giving. As their love develops Conor is gossiped about in a very negative way. Then a murder at his club has him as the prime suspect. Astrid will do everything she can to find the killer and exonerate him. But the danger and unknown enemy is closer than they think and things could get deadly. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Conor Foster, Earl of Middleborough, was the upfront money for the club “The Arc”. He was very proud of it. His rival Killian O’Flannagan had spread a few rumors about being Cold, unfriendly and women feared him. He had done nothing but be reclusive. He was not married and the only other responsibilities were the Earldom and his club. His solicitor came to do his books for the month, Conor found he had stolen from him. He could not believe it. But one of his customers had lost money on an investment by doing the opposite of what Tobias Dawson told him to do and now wanted his money back. He had a title and Dawson would not be believed. Plus he had his only daughter to take care of. So he took a chance and took it. Dawson then offered his daughter’s hand in marriage if Conor would forgive.
Astrid Dawson was an isolated young woman. She went nowhere and did nothing because her father was afraid for her. She had never met the Earl but was willing to talk to him. She wanted to save her father. He seemed like a nice man, so she agreed. They were married and he moved her into his manor house. They took their time to get to know each other but it was close. Neither knew what to do.
This was a lovely story of these two gentle people. The tale was entertaining, witty, and mysterious also. It moved steadily but relentlessly along. The characters were marvelous. The author did a wonderful job of keeping it all together. I highly recommend this entertaining and amusing novel.
I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.
Astrid Dawson is a 21 yr old woman with a overbearing father, Tobias, that keeps her inside her house nearly 24/7 since she was born. She does have a private garden to visit when she wants. She rarely goes out in public and then she is always with her father.
Then her solicitor father ends up embezzling money for one of his clients to pay back another client for a bogus reason. Luckily for Astrid, that client is Conor Foster, Earl of Middleborough, the owner of a Gentleman’s Club “The Arc” who is already fascinated by Astrid.
In order to avoid jail, Tobias offers his daughter to Conor, who agrees only if Astrid also agrees. They get married and start the process of getting to know each other. Unfortunately, there is a murder at The Arc and Conor is the ONLY suspect.
I really enjoyed the evolving relationship between Astrid and Conor. They come from such different backgrounds and Astrid is not aware of the many rules of etiquette for society. And what happens after the murder is quite perplexing.
I really enjoyed this book. And I highly recommend it.
I received an ARC of this ebook to read and give an honest review of the book.
