All Beau Montgomery, one of Charleston’s most eligible bachelors, wants to do is build boats. He has no interest in marriage whatsoever … until it means he might not get his inheritance and he can kiss his boat building dreams goodbye. But the hungry hordes of Charleston debutantes looking to score a Montgomery scare him sh*tless. Gwen has loved Beau Montgomery since she used to run barefoot … barefoot around the marina as scrappy preteen tomboy. Knowing she’ll never fit into his high society family, she decided long ago that she’d become his indispensable best friend rather than not be in his life at all. When he tells her he needs to marry in order to fulfill his dreams, she panics that he might actually meet someone and she’ll lose him forever.

Beau Montgomery has always dreamed of starting a boat building business. When his grandfather dies and leaves him a sizable inheritance, Beau sees the opportunity to make his dream come true. Trouble is, there’s a hitch. To get his inheritance, Beau must marry.
Gwen Thomas’ father owns the boat shop where Beau has refined his boat building skills for years. The boat shop, one of the last in Charleston, is up for sale. It’s ideal for Beau, but he must buy it before someone else scoops it up. Thus begins Beau’s frantic search for a wife.
What follows is a fast-paced, delightful, emotion-packed journey of miscues, false starts and dating train wreaks that will keep you up all night. I lost track of how many times I laughed out loud, and I had my heart broken a few times.
Boyd is known for writing character-driven novels and “Inconvenient Wife” is no exception. Beau Montgomery is strong, friendly and self-confident. He also owns a three-legged rescue dog named Eileen. Gwen Thomas, Beau’s best friend, is about as real as it gets. She sells boats by day and helps her father in his boat shop at night. She’s tough when necessary, but her heart is pure and she’s sensitive, caring and generous.
So you’re asking, why doesn’t Beau ask his best friend, Gwen, to marry him? You’ll have to read “Inconvenient Wife” to find out what happens when he does.
“Inconvenient Wife” is a gripping read full of twists and turns, a page-turner that will keep you up all night. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. But in the end you’ll be delighted because Boyd has again delivered yet another outstanding novel.
Highly recommended for readers of contemporary romance.
What are sure signs of the fact that you are reading a good book ? Well there are a few that is for sure – the most significant ones for me are
– Not wanting to put the book down – which includes sneaking into toilets during parties to read a few pages ( #MeLaughing Penelope Ward totally “borrowed” that from me for her book – I AM JOKING- Kind of … sort of … well not sure who did it first )
– Talking with your book – which includes being in open spaces with other people wondering what that weird women is doing
– Crying and Laughing during reading – which includes (see above mentioned)
– FINALLY … the intense feeling of wanting to punch or hug virtual characters in real life … either because you want to make them see what is right in front of them, comfort them or (and well there is no nice way to say it) because they are assholes.
So let’s check “Inconvenient Wife” by Natasha Boyd …
– I spend an almost all-nighter including the need to wear sunglasses this morning because outside is really bright and I mean REALLY..
– Trust me I was talking a lot with that book ….
– First I was laughing, – then crying – then there was a moment when I gulped and then my heart was breaking …. And that was not even the end of it …
– And then my favorite part … the wish to somehow get in touch with the virtual character … in this case here ? well it was me wanting to PUNCH some sense into both of them …
So the essence of that rant ? I just read a good book …
When I read Accidental Tryst I already met Beau as a secondary character and again here in this book you will see Trystan who featured that book. Looking closely both books go along with each other so you might almost read them in any order – Still I would think reading Accidental Tryst first would be the best choice.
I really loved Beau – he was a well written character with only one flaw … he was to stupid to see what is right in front of him (sorry to be so blunt – but its how I felt)
Beau is working on finally reaching the goal he truly wants and that is to built boats (no spoiler here) and his life (meaning his family) is really doing everything to make sure he wanders off course – not that he wants to but with everything that’s thrown his way there are really only few options left.
Gwen was such a great character (and I don’t say that often about the female lead) … her interaction with beau and her reactions to his problems were spot on. I loved how she loves him …. It was the kind of love that can only come from true friendship and from people that share a soul . She was willing to do anything to help him reach his goal – but she did not loose herself even if it hurt. A very admirable streak.
Not going into the details but please expect twists and turns – smoke and mirrors …. And hope for the best …
This was a great book. I really enjoyed Beau’s book. I love best friend romances and this one didn’t disappoint. I wish there were more books in the series though!!
“It was madness what we were doing, but I tried halfheartedly to care and failed spectacularly.”
Inconvenient Wife is a slow burn, best friends to lovers RomCom that will have you smile wide during the whole book. It’s light and funny with characters easily to fall for.
“I’m adrift in an ether that is focused on every sound she makes, every breath, every shudder, and has no sense of time or place.”
Gwen and Beau have a friendship that makes you jealous. It’s deep, caring, loyal and unbreakable. Their chemistry and the dynamic of their friendship is outstanding and wins you over right away.
Whereas Gwen realizes quite quickly she’s been in love with her best friend her whole life, Beau takes his time. Oblivious to Gewn’s real feelings he drops a brick after brick up to the point where he hurts her so much that it suddenly opens his eyes and really sees her. But how do you turn a friendship you are afraid to loose into something more? Well that’s the journey you’ll have to take while reading Inconvenient Wife.
Gwen is pretty awesome. She cares deeply for Beau and is prepared to give up the love of her life only to see him happy, to pursue and fulfill his dreams. Gwen is a funny, hot, sensitive, Disney loving woman who is not afraid to speak up and take action. She’s totally someone you want to be friend with.
Beau is great. He’s not only good looking but he is caring, self-confident and real. It’s fun to see how carefree he is around Gwen and how natural he always seems to be gravitating back into her orbit. He’s totally not only boyfriend but easily husband material!
“What is romantic love, if not a combination of friendship, respect, and buckets of sexual chemistry?”
With her outstanding writing style, Natasha found a way to tell Gwen’s and Beau’s story with a lot of humor, sincerity and sex appeal that will grip you from the first page to the last. It might takes it’s time but suddenly BOOM you will desperately need something to cool you down.
Inconvenient Wife is totally a mood-lifting and page-turning RomCom not easily to forget!
“”How do you spell love, Pooh?” Gracie asks me. … “You don’t spell it, Piglet. You feel it.””
Read it in one night! I loved the book; loved the storyline. My only complaint was that there were a number of typos. I wish I could’ve been a proofreader before the book was released.
If you have read Accidental Tryst you have already met our leading man Beau – he is Trystan’s cousin, remember him?
I adored this story just as much as the first. Whilst the first was more funny, Inconvenient Wife is more emotional.
Soooo much more emotional.
Beau and Gwen’s story is a beautiful best-friends-to-more story that had me laughing, had me crying, had my heart hurting along with our lovelies.
I adore Gwen’s dad, and surprisingly, I came to really like Beau’s grandma, who from all accounts has been a bitter old woman for what seems forever!
Then there are Gwen’s friends who are equal parts crazy and and downright amazing and you can’t help but love them.
It was also fun to see Trystan’s story from the outside.
I sat and read this book in one sitting I enjoyed it so much.
We already met Beau in his cousin Trystan’s book ACCIDENTAL TRYST. And Beau’s book takes place around the same time. The cousins’ grandpa just died and left the whole business to Trystan – in the hopes he would move back to Charleston and reconnect with the family. And he left a huge piece of land and marina to Beau to finally get started on his dream of starting his boat-building business.
BUT … poor Beau has to get married to receive his inheritance.
Beau is not a relationship kind of guy … and Charleston is full of society daughters who would love nothing more than marry into the Montgomery family. Not happening!
Then there’s Gwen. Beau’s best friend. Only … she’s been in love with him for almost 20 years. He just doesn’t know that.
Gwen doesn’t want him to marry a stranger and maybe fall in love with his new wife along the way. Can she really watch that happening?
But can she marry Beau and have him not love her back?
Or does he mayyybe have his own secret feelings for her too?
LET’S FIND OUT!!!!!
Awww finally back in Charleston with Beau!!! And we even get to see Trystan again.
Beau’s story was just as adorable as Trystan’s book. Not as funny, but just as great. We have funny moments, but it’s a bit more serious … he needs to get married asap. He doesn’t want to lose his boat-building-business-dream.
That poor guy! If he would only turn on his manly brain and realize that his best friend is in love with him. They could’ve been happy together for years already!
But maybe they needed the time to grow up and whatever!
Now’s the time though.
And it was really adorable and frustrating and sweet to watch them fight for that happy end!
And I kind of adored Gwen’s dad and Beau’s grandma! And the dog and Gwen’s crazy friends.
This is such a great series, set in such a beautiful city – can’t wait to read more Charleston books – Beau has a sister who needs to get married too!!!! Plus lots of single friends are available star in future romances!
INCONVENIENT WIFE was such an adorable romance. I just loved it! Run to your nearest amazon for your own Beau – this one is MINE!!!
Cliche, but I couldn’t put it down. And the final sentence. Fabulous!
I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntarily, honest review of it.
After reading and enjoying ‘Accidental tryst’ (the first book in the ‘Charleston’ series) I was really looking forward to Beau’s story. Beau is Tristan’s cousin so we met him when Tristan went back to the town where his mother’s family lives. I really liked Beau’s character in that book so I really wanted more Beau. He is an intelligent and good guy with his heart on the right place. And like many people he doesn’t know what he has, until the moment he almost loses it. In this case it’s Gwen, his best friend, who has always been there for him.
Beau Montgomery had two certainties in life, one was that one day in the future he would build boats and the other was his lifelong friendship with Gwen. But after the dead of his grandfather things are changing. His dream of building boats is getting very close but to make it come true, Beau has to marry. Something he never thought of doing. Gwen is the first person he thinks of. But she denies him. And then things are getting out of hand. But one thing is getting more and more clearer for Beau, his feelings for Gwen run much deeper then he thought. And if he has to choose between his two certainties, he knows which one he will choose forever!
‘Inconvenient wife’ is a friends-to-lovers story. I liked both characters very much. After reading so many stories with alpha men in it, it was refreshing to read a story without one in it. I loved the fact that Beau wasn’t afraid to show his softer side to Gwen. I totally loved his and Gwen’s love for Disney animation movies. Grace was an intelligent woman, who has been in love with Beau for a very long time, but she stopped hoping for more a long time ago. She has always been happy with his friendship. But things are changing and maybe she wants more out of life and from Beau.
I always find it interesting to read how a lifelong friendship turns into a love relationship between two people. I’m always curious about what set the change and how they slowly see each other in a different light.
You don’t have to read the first book of this series to read this one. ‘Inconvenient wife’ can be perfectly read as a standalone. But I liked both books very much and in this book we discovered how Beau felt when his cousin Tristan reappeared after all those years away.
‘Inconvenient wife’ is a sweet, lighthearted, slow burn romance story that is perfect for the summer, just what you need to relax and feel good.
I really enjoyed this book. Beau and Gracie were wonderful. This series has been great and I definitely recommend it. I also recommend this author.
