Lovely story!
Beautiful
They may have grown up in different sides of town but that never mattered to Lindsey. Damien was raised by an alcoholic father and after graduation joined the Marines. He was back in town to bury his dad, she was back after a divorce and is having a baby. But somehow they click again.
There were a few slightly steamy parts, which I skipped over.
This touching story draws you in to the graces of Damien and Lindsey who both are searching for love and acceptance. When Lindsey finds her husband in a compromising position, she has no choice but to end their marriage and start again. Pregnant and alone she comes home and runs into the one man she has always loved and thought she lost. Damien is home for one thing to settle his father’s estate and leave. When he sees Lindsey all bets are off. He has always had a sot spot for her. Could this be the perfect time for him to plant some roots of his own and consider a happily ever after with the one woman he has always felt at home with?
Those you choose to love become your family
Their close and trusting friendship began in grade school. Sadly, after their first kiss, he walked away from her. Now, years later, she’s all alone and eight months pregnant. Like a ghost from her past, he’s the one who is coming to her rescue. Is it even possible that they’ve been given a second chance? Maybe, with time and love.
In With The Tide is the first book I’ve read by Charlee James, and I was pleasantly surprised by Ms. James’ skillfully written story and believable characters. Her main characters, Lindsey and Damian, easily drew me into their world as their bittersweet story had me cheering for them as they tried to make a life together. Although they were each fighting their own demons, still they were each possessed a good heart with a kind spirit. In the end, they will get their happy ever after, but not without mistakes and tears.
Content alert: Some swearing (including one “f” bomb), passionate kissing, sensual thoughts and dialogue and one mildly described sexually intimate scene.
It had a good ending
Good read
An absolutely adorable story within a beautiful setting, with amazing characters, and written by an author that is a complete joy to read! I loved it!
I enjoyed this book immensely. The two main characters, Lindsey and Damien had experienced a lot of pain in their lives. She is recently divorced from a controlling husband, now single and pregnant. Damien is from a dysfunctional family and a veteran with emotional scars. They were friends from school but from different social structures. This story is how they find each other and open their hearts and support each other. They eventually find true love in spite of their differences. I recommend this book.
I liked it enough to buy the next book in the series!
Loved this book and the characters!
This one I could not put down. Disappointing when you read a interesting book in 5 days. We all have the friend we grew up with while harboring a crush or love that we didn’t dare pursue. Lindsey and Damien each had such feelings. But when Lindsey’s retreat back to her hometown is interrupted by car trouble, Damien was not only her knight in shining armour, he also was her buddy when she brings her wonderful daughter into this world. How their friendship evolves into a romantic relationship is wonderfully written by Ms. James.
I found In With the Tide by Charlee James, book one in her Cape Cod Shores series a delightful second chance story. There’s more than one way people have second chances. In this story Lindsey is returning to Cape Cod very pregnant, divorced, and looking for a fresh start to her life. Damien is not back in Cape Cod by choice but to deal with his abusive father’s estate. Lindsey is stranded on the side of the road by car trouble and Damien comes to the rescue, reuniting these two old friends. Lindsey thought she and Damien could be more than friends, back in their school days, until he enlisted and left her behind. As they reacquaint themselves they find the attraction is still there. The problem is Damien is used to being a lone wolf, not staying in one place. The more time he spends time with Lindsey and her newborn baby the more he wonders if he is strong enough to overcome his demons so he can stay and have the kind of family he’d always wanted.
I enjoyed reading this story. Ms. James wrote an excellent story, keeping me interested in this story so that I had trouble putting it down. I highly recommend this outstanding book to other readers and look forward to the next book in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This is a new author for me and one I will be reading and following from now on. I love it when i find an author that grabs my heart from the first book and this one did. So let me tell you a little bit about this book so you can get what i liked about it. Meet young pregnant divorced Lindsey who returns to her hometown and happens to run into her old childhood friend Damien when her car breaks down.
They recognize each other in so many ways in so many levels. I think that this is one of the things I like about this author. She writes in a way that has me reading from the first page of the book until the end. I had to know what Lindsey and Damien did…what happened in the past, present and even if they had a future and she gave me all of that/ I am looking forward to more not only in the Cape Cod series but looking at other books from her as well. Second Chance Romance that touched my Heart in a good way.
This is the second book I have read by this author, and it definitely won’t be the last. This talented author gives us a story about two individuals, that is heartbreaking as well as heartwarming.
Lindsay , now divorced and pregnant, has decided to return to the town that was home. Damien Trent, an ex-Marine, has returned as well. He is back not due to happy memories, but for the funeral of his abusive father and to sell the home that held painful memories.
He comes across Lindsay on the road when her car breaks down. They are both surprised to see each other. She was the only one that lend him a hand as a child, and he was the one she had a crush for most of her youth.
As the story progresses , we see how they are both healing but trust is still a struggle for them. Fears of not being good enough , and of not running away from what could be a hopeful future, are constantly in Damien’s mind.
It was touching to see how sweet and wonderful Damien was with baby Maris. A reminder that what makes a parent is not only biology, but the nurturing displayed since birth.
Ms James gives us an engaging plot with characters that are complex and endearing. Looking forward to what she has in store in future books .
I was gifted this copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Lindsey and Damien had been friends since Damien try to steal her lunch box one day at school cause he was so hungry. Lindsey came from a very good very close family but Damien came lived with his alcoholic father and his mother had left. Lindsey brought an extra peanut butter sandwich everday for Damien after that. They became very close friends until one day he finally kissed her. After that he didn’t feel he was good enough for her and stopped talking to her and just watched her from a far. After graduation be joined the Marines…. several years later he came back to town to sell his dad’s house after he passed away. He meets Lindsey again. A great standalone with an HEA!!
Characters so real I hated for the book to end. Want to read more from this author.
This is a great read, really enjoyed the people and story. Would like to read more of Ms James’ books.
10/29/2020 “In With the Tide” (nook) is the first book in the series but I read it second. Damien and Lindsey are almost star-crossed lovers – with a long past. They both have deep-seated issues which cause turmoil, betrayal and forgiveness. This story definitely is a tear-jerker but with a HEA.
There were a few discrepancies:
The word “taunt” was used a couple of times instead of “taut.”
Damien’s father supposedly had a wake two (2) days before the funeral but the wake itself was not described/mentioned.
In Chapter 11 Jay tells Damien about his sisters and it seems that both have children. However, in “Caught in the Current” only the younger sister has a child.
Lindsey and Damien have put up strong protective walls — she because of her ex and he from his family but they care enough to help each other break down the walls to work though to a relationship they cherish
