For anyone who read Beneath the Surface last year, that sneak peek at In Too Deep definitely left you ready for it’s release! Good news for us all!! The wait is over.
While the entire team works together to solve what initially could be labeled a suicide, the focus is on Adam, the white collar crimes investigator with a family everyone in Carrington knows and Sabrina, an intelligent professor who helps the team with all things online.
Sabrina is adorable naïve when it comes to picking up nuances with body language and, sometimes, verbal hints. While she’s a genius, her social interaction make her likable. Adam’s got some issues with his family but when it push comes to shove, they love each other.
Lynn H. Blackburn brings these characters to life within the pages. From their interactions with each other—the banter is great—to their professional positions, each person in this group has a unique personality. And then there is the added suspense—and oh, boy, is there a lot of it in this new release with plenty of twists and turns (a couple resulting in a few trips to Leigh’s emergency department).
I loved catching up with Leigh and Ryan and getting to know Sabrina and Adam better. Next up, Gabe (and I’m hoping Anissa as I feel like things have been brewing between them for two books).I have a feeling Blackburn is saving the best for last.

In Too Deep by Lynn H. Blackburn is the second book in her Dive Team Investigations series. The team is called in to investigate a submerged car. In the car was an encrypted laptop. They bring in Dr. Sabrina Fleming, a professor at the local university who has extraordinary computer forensics skills, to help recover the files on the laptop. What they find is a whole lot of trouble! The evidence will convict a whole lot of powerful people who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets hidden. This was a very fast-paced story with lots of suspense, comradery, romance and danger. I enjoyed how the whole team worked and played together as a unit. Ms. Blackburn wasn’t afraid to tackle a very tough subject, and she did it quite well. The story-line and the characters worked great together. I can’t wait for the next installment.
I received this book from LibraryThing in exchange for my honest review.
This is such a great series! I recently read book one and was really excited to get to dive into book two right away.
I loved these two main characters. Adam had been in love with Sabrina for two years and it was so fun to watch her begin to realize it. Sabrina was a fun main character, who was a great combo of extremely smart and a bit clueless regarding social cues. But, it wasn’t over the top clueless. She realized that sometimes she didn’t pick up on every nuance of a social situation and it was fun to see her continue to open up to the group of friends she had made from book one. And she and Adam were perfect for each other. So sweet!
Once again, this book was a combination of great characters, love interests, friendships, and extreme danger and suspense. I loved it! I’m looking forward to reading book three.
Investigator Adam Campbell and his friend Dr. Sabrina Fleming-a professor at the local university with extraordinary computer security and forensics skills-work alongside the dive investigation team to solve the death of an accountant.
I was immediately drawn into the story. The twists and turns kept me turning the pages. I so appreciate the spiritual truths woven throughout this novel. Be prepared to not come up for air until you have reached the end. It’s a fast-paced, haunting story.
Recommend to those who enjoy inspirational, romantic suspense.
I purchased a copy. All views expressed are my honest opinion.
This story is jam-packed with fast-paced action and laced with just enough swoony attraction to keep that heart rate up throughout! I love the teammate co-worker/friends dynamic connecting the half dozen main and secondary characters. Inner workings of the investigation are fascinating, not lost in technical jargon or lengthy procedures. Human trafficking elements are always hard to read in a story yet I’m thankful for the increased awareness of this ever-present evil.
I highly recommend this series and look forward to reading the final installment of the Dive Team Investigations series soon!
I purchased this book. The opinions expressed are my own.
I started reading this immediately after finishing Beneath the Surface, the first book in this series. I couldn’t get enough of these characters and had to dive right into the next mystery.
This story focuses on investigator Adam Campbell and Dr. Sabrina Fleming. Sabrina was my favorite character from book one. She’s ‘refreshingly honest’, saying pretty much whatever she’s thinking, and is a genius with computers. She’s not the best at reading emotions or social situations, but that’s one of the most endearing things about her. She’s awesome. And Adam! One word – swoonworthy! He comes from a super wealthy family, but he’s down to earth. He’s sweet, humble, good-natured. A true gentleman. I could go on and on, lol.
This book touches upon some heavy subjects, but I really appreciated that. It’s absolutely horrifying that human trafficking and modern-day slavery are happening all around us, right now. I was glad that this book shined a light on these heinous crimes. It can’t be talked about enough.
I greatly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to everyone who enjoys this genre. Even if you haven’t read book one, this one stands alone just fine.
I loved being back with this team, and saying hello again to old friends, but this can be read alone, but once you devour this one you will want to read the first book in this series.
It didn’t take long to become completely immersed in this mystery, and page-turning to find answers. I changed my mind a few times as to what was going on. But loved the strong faith of the main characters, and with all that was happening and going on they lived their faith in God.
If you enjoy a really good, action packed story this is one you don’t want to miss, it also includes some really sweet romance, and love for fellow man.
I hope that there will be another book in this series!
I received this book through Revell Reads Blogger Program, and was not required to give a positive review.
3.5 stars
“Wow. This woman was actually helping them solve her murder from beyond the grave.”
“They killed me. Ask Adam Campbell.” Chilling words self-written on the abdomen of a drowning victim. What did they mean exactly, and why had Lisa Palmer, a prominent local accountant, tried to contact Investigator Adam Campbell just days before her demise?
When the deceased’s laptop is brought to the surface of the river where she allegedly drowned, the Carrington County Sheriff’s Department turns to local professor of cybersecurity and computer forensics, Dr. Sabrina Fleming, for help retrieving dozens of encrypted files. Adam and Sabrina have maintained a curious friendship; platonic on the surface but deep around the edges. Working on this case together already has the potential to either preserve or destroy the precious tie that binds them.
A thrilling blend of romance and intrigue, “In Too Deep” adds great depth to Blackburn’s “Dive Team Investigations” series, even though her best may be yet to come.

Second in the Dive Team Investigations series, In Too Deep is supercharged with tension and suspense as detectives try to learn why and by whom an accountant was murdered. The computer forensics consultant is assaulted, and she and part of the investigative team are almost killed by an RPG later that day. The team is a tight-knit group of highly-skilled men and women who are friends and co-workers. The underlying crimes are complex and horrible.
Adam Campbell was at his family’s monthly luncheon which most family members dared not miss. Being a white-collar crime investigator and on the dive team wasn’t the kind of job a Campbell should hold, so when Adam was called in, the family was unhappy.
The team was assembled when a woman’s partially submerged car is found in Lake Porter. There were no indications that she tried to swerve or stop the car, so her death was probably a suicide until the ME saw words written on the woman’s tummy in permanent marker. “They killed me. Ask Adam Campbell”. He didn’t recognize the lady until hearing her name, Lisa Palmer, in the office to see him that week when he was testifying in court. Her appointment was for the following day.
A laptop was in her car, and Dr. Sabrina Fleming, a professor at the nearby university who helps the police when damaged equipment needs data restored, was called. From the day Adam met her two years earlier, he wanted to get to know her better. Sabrina is humble, yet confident in her file research and restoration abilities.
Adam followed Sabrina to her lab to make sure she got in and out safely. Another officer followed her home and gave her his phone number when Adam was called to the victim’s home. The following morning, Sabrina is assaulted and left to die. From there it only gets more challenging – almost killed by an RPG later that day, Adam and Sabrina are determined to get to the bottom of Lisa’s secrets and catch whoever is behind the murder and attempted murders. The secrets they find, however, involve many families, including Adam’s and Sabrina’s.
Adam, Sabrina, and the dive team are strong and well-defined, people I would want to work with. I think highly of Adam, but Sabrina and Leigh, fiancé of team member Ryan, are my favorites. They are women who have grown through challenges and trials. Being an introvert, I appreciate Sabrina’s reticence and how Leigh gently draws her out. Adam and his friends are believers whose walk match their talk, including praying for what their needs.
This novel is intense and riveting from beginning to end. The action rushes from one clue to the next, resulting in discovery of the depravity of the underlying crimes. Despite where the investigation leads, the team persevered to seek justice. I enjoyed watching Adam’s grandmother change through the investigation. Adam’s family, with a lifetime of being part of a town founding family that owns about a third of the town, doesn’t protect their own from justice for the grievous crimes. It was a challenge to accept that these are crimes prevalent around the country today; I learned a lot. Much is packed into these pages, making it a novel that appeals to many who appreciate Christian thrillers laced with a bit of romance. I highly recommend In Too Deep; it can be read as a standalone, but don’t miss the first novel, Beneath the Surface.
From a grateful heart: I received a copy of this from the publisher and author and was not required to provide a review.
this is a revitting could not put it down story. loved it. Adam is a member of the dive team for the police, Sabrina is a forensic doctor. someone went over the bridge into the water when she is poled out she has written Adams name on herself. this story show us the world of human trafficking . it is scary to think that there are people out there that put other people and their families through this. I was given a copy of the book but this is an honest reveiw. if you like suspense with some romance you have to read the book, I was glad some of the people from the first book are in this one.
This is the second book in the Dive Team Investigations series by Ms. Blackburn. I loved the first book and this one was fantastic as well! This book focuses on Adam (who you meet in the first book). Adam is a dive team investigator who is called to a possible crime scene where a woman has drowned. Did she meet with foul play? Once the medical examiner examines her and discovers what she has written on her stomach, Adam decides there may be more going on than what it appears. In her trunk is a computer which brings Dr. Sabrina Fleming to the crime scene. Dr. Fleming is the dive team’s go to person to assist during investigations. Her forensic computer skills are phenomenal. Adam and Sabrina have worked other cases, but continue to find themselves together in this book. Will a romance develop between the two? As Adam is working the case, someone comes after Dr. Fleming. Is the two cases related or is it just coincident? This romantic suspense novel will keep you up and engaged throughout the book. I highly recommend this book and series! You will not be disappointed!!!
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, this is my own opinion.
‘An untested and unchallenged faith is unproven.’
Lynn Blackburn takes us into book 2 in her Dive Team Investigations series with this offering and it’s quite a good ride, too! Investigator Adam Campbell is called to the scene of a car submerged in a lake and there is a very cryptic clue on the victim. All the team have is her laptop and a few flash drives. Enter Dr. Sabrina Fleming, who is a crazy good computer forensics expert and professor. Between them and other members of the team, they hope to solve this crime quickly. However, soon Adam’s family is implicated and both Adam and Sabrina have attempts made on their lives. What has the victim discovered that someone wants to keep hidden so badly that they want to murder again to keep that from happening?
Deftly told, Blackburn immerses (pun intended) her readers into the action from the very beginning and keeps them occupied until the very last page is turned. I couldn’t wait to finish it. Now I look forward to the next in the series very much. Highly recommended.
*My thanks to the publisher and author for a preview copy of this book. My opinion is entirely my own.
This is one very intense book that kept me guessing throughout the story. The author delivers a story rich in a mystery that will put people in danger. I love how the author incorporates computer technology into the story with details that remind me of shows on television.
Adam and his team are called upon to investigate a crime that leaves the team grappling for answers. Who is the mysterious woman found and what message will be discovered on her? Adam will have to call upon his friend Sabrina to help his team out. Sabrina is very intelligent and highly trained in computers. I couldn’t get enough of her expertise and how accurate the author is in Sabrina’s knowledge.
Sabrina is getting closer to the truth and someone out there needs to stop her. When her life is in danger, Trent steps up his protection of her. This book is one of the author’s best at keeping the story interesting and action packed. Just when I thought I had figured out a part of the story, the author throws a curve that I never expected. I loved the part when Sabrina visits the victims home. I loved following her around the room as she took in every detail.
The story moves at a face pace and is filled with surprises and secrets from the past. Sabrina has not had the best relationship with her parents, especially her mother. As you delve further into the story it becomes clear that there is a much deeper secret to what the team and Sabrina is investigating. I was shocked at how sinister people can be and dysfunctional a family can become to gain power, control and cause destruction. Get ready for a powerful story that takes readers in to the depths of darkness.
I received a copy of this book from The Early Reviewers Program of Librarything. The review is my own opinion.
