An irresistible collection of “truly remarkable” stories from the master of classic mysteries, featuring Lord Peter Wimsey and Montague Egg (The New York Times). Most noblemen would prefer to avoid a charred corpse in a garage. But Lord Peter Wimsey has never seen such a body, and cannot resist the opportunity when it comes along. The corpse is burned beyond recognition, but the watch it wears … the watch it wears remains pristine–stopped precisely at seven minutes past nine. These are the sorts of clues that great murder cases are built around, and few detectives are more adept at finding them than Wimsey, the famous creation of Dorothy L. Sayers. In this volume, two classic Wimsey stories appear alongside five starring Montague Egg, an eccentric wine salesman whose powers of deduction could give His Lordship a run for his money. A handful of other glittering puzzles round out the volume, serving as testament to Sayers’s enduring status as a star of crime fiction.
In the Teeth of the Evidence is the 14th book in the Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries, but you may enjoy the series by reading the books in any order. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Dorothy L. Sayers including rare images from the Marion E. Wade Center at Wheaton College.

I couldn’t put this down I always read until the end. This is a two story Lord Peter Wimsey book. The first story is a mystery where a cop is fooled and tells Wimsey of it, so Wimsey investigates the case. The second is a mystery of missing peaches. An oldest son is caught eating a couple the day before the heist and is falsely accused. These …
if you are a fan of the english mystery and agatha christie, you cannot miss out on dorothy sayers. her characters are wonderful! i’ve read every book she wrote many times. lord peter, bunter, harriet… the plot, the people, the style. warning, you will wish to read in one sitting, so prop your legs up and enjoy!
Lord Peter marvelous as always!
Sayers was a great writer, but even though a product of her times her anti-Semitism (a small part of the story) really grates on me. Even with Trump working hard to Make Racism Great Again.
Collection of mystery stories by a superb author
I love all her books!
Good short detective stories with various of her characters. Sometimes a twist at the end.
I have read all of Dorothy Sayers’s books and short stories.
While I enjoyed the book, I didn’t pay attention when I bought it to the entire title. The whole title is “In the Teeth of the Evidence: And Other Mysteries”. I bought it expecting another Peter Whimsey Novel (since it’s also called (The Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries Book 14) but it’s actually a book of short stories with only a couple of Peter …
Early works . Stories are too short.
Need to understand that this is a book of short stories. They are good, but not my favorite genre.
This is a rip-off, in my opinion. Only the first two short stories are about Sayers’ Peter Wimsey, one of my all-time favorite characters. Several others feature the weird and occasionally interesting Montague Egg, and the rest? I gave up. Don’t be mislead by the Wimsey cover.
Dorothy Sayers – especially her Lord Peter – never disappoints. These short stories are a good p[rimer to her full length novels.
While the blurb makes it look like this book is full of Lord Peter and Monty Egg stories, most of the stories feature neither.
Another wonderful Dorothy L Sayers.
i really liked the short stories, especially those about Mortimor Egg. The author does lead one down a whimsical path before letting you fall off the cliff and land in the net.
Dorothy Sayers can’t be beat for this style of mystery! Always a favorite.
Typical Agatha Christie… very enjoyable & being short stories, it’s a wonderful book when you want a quick read.
