WOW! Once again, Carmen brings out all the stops with Ares and his Pet’s story. I was gobbling this page by page, needing more and more. The dark, twisted story of these two have dragged me into their world and I’m not over it just yet.
I hope part three comes soon because I’m chomping at the bit to know what happens to Pet, and how Ares is going to handle the mistake he made.
I’m loving this series sooo much! I need the third book now.
Imagine all your dreams being fulfilled, you’re the female lead ballet dancer, engaged and happy. Until one night after your performance you’re abducted and wake up in the dark, naked and kept in a cage. You wake up frightened but imagine the terror upon finding you’ve been captured by human trafficker’s. Camille forms a bond of trust with Sir during her training, she learns to crave the beatings and sex. Ares makes the decision to set his Pet free before she is sold.
Pet’s been cast out into the world, free from the chains and control of Ares. Still suffering some memory loss from her initial abduction, not only does she not remember but she doesn’t like the people she is supposed to love. Her father hires a security detail at his house, where she is almost imprisoned. Parker her fiancé is too busy to spend time with her and returns to their unit alone. Missing her Sir, desperately craving some attention, pleasure and pain. She seeks sex but is left feeling less than satisfied with the vanilla offering. Pet is feeling lost and abandoned. Why did Sir just throw her away, like some used toy he was bored with?

Pet is so happy to be back within his arms and control, but she still feels the need to have some control over her life. After talking with Ares twin brother Hermes she makes a decision but getting Ares to agree won’t be easy. As expected when she talks to Ares he says absolutely not. However Pet is determined and with the help of Hermes she talks him around. Everything is set and the time has come, but things never go to plan.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review.
In the land of gods and monsters, she was set free. Left, lost, forgotten. Cast out of the only world she remembers, Pet now answers to a new name–Victim. Ares walked away without a backward glance and left her desperate for safety, desire, an the freedom she found in his cruel touch. But in the end, Pet discovers nothing is ever free. …
If you haven’t already you need to read In The Land Of Gods and Monsters, Part One you need to or this book with make absolutely make no sense to you. This second book picks up not to long after the first book ended. Pet has been released and has no memory of a lot of things. No her dad. Not that she is a prima ballerina, and certainly not the man who claims to be her finance. She is lonely and trying so hard to reach for something . This something she isn’t sure what is missing is such a strong pull to it that she knows she just has to find Ares. This is her journey part of which is where she needs to discover who she is and what she wants or is willing to do for the one person either alone or with the man who had taken her. If only she could find him. She is falling apart .without him. Losing her mind And that is about all that I can tell you about the second part of this story. I do not want to ruin any of this book for anyone. As fast as I thought I devoured the first book and it was amazing. This book though, I could not, nor would I put it down. I had to know what was going to happen just as fast as I could. There were a few times I had tears in my eye but the ending!!! Holy cow I swear my heart literally stopped for a second or two and it took me a while to catch my breath and get calmed down. Get ready to sit back and enjoy one wild ride that will have you begging for more. To say I need Part 3 right now is a understatement. I can not wait to see where these characters end up and how this series ends. Carmen Jenner is blowing me away with the direction she is taking us as readers in The Land Of Gods and Monsters.
*3 Stars*
ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.
I’m honestly not sure how I feel about this series and these storylines. I think for me, this kind of dark series, may not be ultimately my thing. This is my first foray into this sort of story, and whilst I don’t dislike it, it doesn’t capture me the same way other light hearted series do.
That said, I don’t want to take anything away from Carmens writing skill and the series itself. It takes a lot to come up with a story like this, and to carry it on over several books. I do want to see how things will play out with Camille/Pet and Ares, and after the cliffhanger at the end, it will be very interesting to see what happens. Particularly throwing Hermes into the mix as well.
Camille/Pet was very lost in this book, and trying to find herself after everything that had happened to her. Note that you must have read the first book, for this one to make any sense.
Once Pet begins to find her place again, things take even more turns. I will say though, that I do like the more assertive side of her that came out in this one.
There are lots of characters and situations and personalities at play in this, and I am quite curious to see how Carmen will continue this on, and who we will see again, and if we meet certain characters in the future as well. Whilst not totally my kind of series, I think others who enjoy darker books will love this series and should definitely give it a go.
You MUST read book 1 before you read!
This book was just AMAZING!!! If I thought I loved book one, well book two blew my mind.
Pet is shattered and not sure how to function without her Sir. My heart hurt for her. She is so broken yet so very fierce trying to find her way.
Ares is of course just as brutal and filthy this time round. His menace is part of his appeal for me.
This one’s definitely not an easy read but one that explores kink, sexual exploitation, and self awareness in a very raw and honest way. That cliffy though – it might have earned Carmen a ranty VM or 3
4+++ stars!
Stop what you are doing and if you haven’t read book one, do that and then jump right in. This is a series and it HAS to be read in order. Ares and Pet are going to rock your world!
Carmen MFing Jenner! What the heck have you done?! Book one enticed me into the dark world of human trafficking mixed with Dom and sub life. It was dark and dirty and uncomfortable to see Pet being broken by such a cruel man. But book two? I thought it would be a filler. Middle books don’t always do it for me. They answer some questions but leave you with more. This book did that but with SOOOO much more.
“I want to destroy him. I hate him for turning me into a monster, and worse still, I hate him because he made me this way, and then he let me go.”
Book two starts off right where book one left off. Pet is ‘free’ and has exchanged one prison for another. Her father is keeping her at home, but all she can think about is her Master and how she misses him. Her freedom came with a price and she can’t live in her old world again. It’s not familiar and she doesn’t recognize anything in it any longer. Her father, her best friend, her fiancé. They are all strangers and she is lost. She is looking to belong in a world without her Sir.
“How is it that being in control, having all of the power in a scene is far more terrifying than having no choice at all.”
This book is told in mostly Pet’s POV but for all intended purposes is dual POV. The writing is crazy intense and full of up and down emotions. I expected to feel one thing but came away feeling more than I thought for different characters. The story is going somewhere you least expect it, but maybe did have a part of it guessed. But that cliffhanger?! Holy wow! I think I’m ready for book three like yesterday. Get ready for a quick and fast paced book and hold on tight. Where is this story going to take us? I’m 100% on board and can’t wait to see where this world is taking me next. I’m truly scared!
“I’ve never been more willing to be the hunted. To be caught between the wickedly sharp teeth of a predator.”
Noooooooooo!!!!!!!
Why would you do that to me?! I’m talking to the author BTW… I complicated situation now got even more complicated. The suspense is killing me. With how the story left me. I’m desperate to know what comes next because now not even Pet’s master has control. They had a plan but they never counted with more than one variable.
It’s weird because you read the story and feel betrayed on her behave since she is giving so much. She is good but she keeps being deprived from the simple things she needs. She wants to own Ares same as he does her. Not because he demands it, but because she willingly gives it. She loves him. But because she feels lost and abandoned without her Sir, she looks for relieve in others. Oh and what a delicious, fan yourself relieve. It’s good while it lasts but Sir wants his property back. And there will be a lot of punishment in her future. It will really make you sad because since she is so dedicated you will feel she doesn’t deserve it. Why does he have to be so possessive and so neglecting some times?! I know he is not actually neglecting and I also know torturing is what gets his heart pumping, but come on! There is no need to bring Israel into the mix. And yes, I just have to state that I hate Ares inability to love but I hate Israel more.
Now with part 2, the unknown is the terrifying part. Because it’s always better to deal with a devil that you know than the unknown.
I don’t even know where to start with this review this was one amazing read holy crap. First i will say i haven’t read many of this type of book and i am glad that Carmen Jenner’s is one i chose to read.
This book practically starts off where the first book ends and it had me hooked from the start i needed to know what was going to happen and Pet was so broken and torn to how she should be feeling.
After Ares let her go the story just built from there and was wondering when he would make his appearance and when he did i wasn’t sure if i was happy or angry at him. With Ares character sometimes i absolutely hated him and sometimes i could see the light that he was a nice human being but that was few and far between.
The thing i loved about this book was yes there was a lot of BDSM and sex but that did not take it away from the awesome story line. You could feel Pets desperation flowing off the pages and ares fighting his feelings.
This story is so good, you want t keep turning the pages and find out where this story is going and the fact that we are left hanging again makes me so excited for the third book. The storyline is awesome.
As i said at the start i don’t ever read these types of story of a lot of BDSM, kidnapping and Stockholm syndrome but this one knocks it out of the park and i absolutely loved it.
Massive 5 stars for this one
Camille or Pet as she now knows herself as is back at her father’s place and in her words, ‘I’m a slave without a Master’. Being thoroughly lost she accidentally finds Atticus and Violet who show her more understanding than anyone else.
Camille/Pet grows into her true character in this book, accepting her needs and wants more as well as her love for Ares, her Master. Ares might be a very complex character but broken down is he? You start to ask yourself if Camille was just as much his undoing?
Be aware there the BDSM lifestyle and sexual content is quite graphic, just like it was in part 1, but it’s all in the context of the story. Is there romance, yes there is however it’s dark and definitely not the sweet, light kind.
What I really enjoy about this author’s writing is that you just never know what’s coming around the corner, story wise. She is one of the greats at plotting twists and turns to keep readers on the edge of their seats with a fascinating storyline that never becomes dull. And oh what an ending this part has to stir up imaginations.
Bring on part three!
You will need to have read Part 1 before you dive into part 2, as part 2 stars right where part 1 left off.
I admit, I have terrible bookzheimer’s and I had forgotten some of the details of the first book (even though it was only out a few months ago) but I quickly picked up on them again as I began reading.
Camille/Pet has been through the wringer and I was not sure how she was going to cope with where she was at this time and place in the story.
What was got was dark, gritty and smacked of hope and rebellion. I loved her spark and the fight in her, wanting to find her way back to her “home”.
Ares, oy I have to say that I got p!ssed at him at times, however I knew that he was the real Ares.
And just as I had hope that they might fight their happy, it was a case of “WTH Carmen?!?!”
Told in dual POV, I was on the edge of my seat, nervously turning each page, needing to know what would happen next.
We were cliffied, but it was expected. Now I am impatiently awaiting the 3rd book to see how things play out.
Please don’t make me wait too long, Ms Jenner!
OMG!!!! So good I could not put this down for one second it sucks you right in and these characters will not let you go, it is heart pounding and exciting with every emotion you can think of I loved it hard. I have to say I was very nervous and then rejoicing yes yes yes!!!!! Ares is a force and he gets what he wants and takes it and is very very demanding in everyway he is the ultimate SIR!!! and he is Pets (Camille) Sir, he is her everything that she cannot literally live without, a broken shell of nothing and it picks up right where book one left off and my heart hurt for her and all her pain. We get lots of darkness and strength and fight with very hard decisions to make and nots let forget the punishments. The writing is fantastic in every way and I cannot wait for book 3 this series is so addicting I could read forever about Ares and Pet.
Oh my Lordy me, what just happened!
Firstly as it indicates, this is part two of a series, so part one is essential to read before you grab this book. No re reading will be necessary as it picks up straight from part one, and has enough background to jog your memory without it being repetitive from the first book. I also want to remind readers, that this series is dark, very dark and twisted with Doms and Subs and extremely erotic. Still have your attention, great because if you enjoyed part one, part two is going to knock your socks off as it is vamped up a level or two.
Camille / Pet is back home and in a state of confusion with in some measure not comprehending if what she experienced was real or some sort of nightmare. With the added complication of amnesia, it is the understatement of the year to say her world is upside down. She slowly goes about her life, trying to fit back in as best as possible but not really wanting to. Her demeanor has changed, and all she wants is Ares, her Master.
I’m not going to say anymore of what happens, because you need to experience it all for yourself. And if you are like me, you will insufficiently understand how people can enjoy that lifestyle but it does make for interesting reading. The thing about these books that make them so compelling is the writing. Even if this is not a genre or way of life you are used to, the writing is done in a way that you can not stop reading. Or look away, so to say. You want to know more, and you want to see if things will play out and not make you cringe. This certainly does that and I couldn’t put it down with reading it in one sitting. I am anxiously awaiting for part three to be released, especially after that ending!
