Destitute, grief-stricken, and unwanted by the people of God, Ruth arrives in Israel with nothing to recommend her but Naomi’s, love. Her loftiest hope is to provide enough food to save Naomi and herself from starvation. But God has other plans for her life.
While everyone considers Ruth an outcast, she is astounded to find one of the most honored men of Judah showing her favor. Long since a … since a widower and determined to stay that way, Boaz is irresistibly drawn to the foreign woman with the haunted eyes. He tells himself he is only being kind to his Cousin Naomi’s chosen daughter when he goes out of his way to protect her from harm, but his heart knows better.
Based on the biblical account of Ruth, In the Field of Grace is the story of a love that ultimately changes the course of Israel’s destiny and the future of the whole world.

Excellent!
I have just finished reading ‘In the Field of Grave’ and I loved it. The Author has taken the Bible ‘Book of Ruth’ and written a fictional story. It is a beautifully written love story told like it happened. I am so happy to have found this author and plan to read more of her books.
The Biblical account of Naomi and Ruth is beautiful enough as recorded, but enhanced by Tessa Afshar’s fertile mind and masterful writing, it becomes vividly alive. Every aspect of the story is magnified and exquisite, making one wish it really did happen this way. Who knows? Maybe it did.
Beautiful story! Loved everything about it—the focus on God’s tender heart, how the author brought Boaz & Ruth to life, the back stories she gave them, their love story, the secondary characters, the life lessons, the humor. So glad I bought this for my classroom!
Loved this book! Loved that it made me stop and think about how these people from the Bible were real people and to wonder what their thoughts and emotions might have been as they walked through their journey. Loved the character growth that happened in even more than just the two main characters.
Loved this story of Ruth and Boaz. I now need to go read the book of Ruth again. I love when a book causes me to go back to scripture. I generally remember the biblical account better after reading a book like this.
I believe this is my first book by Tessa Afshar, but it will not be my last. She created a beautiful retelling of Ruth’s story within these pages, bringing the people around her to life in breathtaking realism, emotion, and expression. I love biblical fiction for its ability to broaden my perspective–not so much on the story itself but on all the historical events and human verity that surround the bits we are told in Scripture. Mrs. Afshar obviously researched and wrestled with all of these pieces and wove them together in a story that felt real and personal, so perfectly gentle and relatable that I know it was God Himself who brought it to me for this time. If you enjoy biblical fiction, Tessa Afshar is an author you do not want to miss.
Biblical fiction such as this places the reader “there.” I love that! Thank you!
A retelling and fictionalization of the story of Ruth. Very heartwarming and I enjoyed the scriptures at the beginning of each chapter. The ending got a little fantastical hence only 4 stars.
Hardly put the book down! I had wanted to read this book for so long so when I finally did I devoured it. No regrets..only that I waited so long. Beautiful Ruth and her Boaz are fleshed out within cultural, biblical context of the day. It gets you thinking about the characters and what they had to face on a daily basis. So many times I wept through sections as it ministered to me.
Love Tessa Afshar’s novels. In the Field of Grace was a treasure. Enjoyed every moment.
A lovely telling of a Biblical story.
This is such a wonderful retelling of the story of Ruth. A wonderful, uplifting and encouraging read.
Enjoyed the author’s desire to stay true to the heart of the book of Ruth ad Jewish culture.
I love this book. It brought the Bible to life for me.
Field of Grace is a good read! Well written and very inspirational.
Loved it. Made real my favorite book from the Bible . I highly recommend this book.
Now I’m twice in love with the story of Ruth and Boaz! I felt as though I had made friends and then had to say good bye at the last page. Tessa has artistically and accurately woven prophetic truths of the coming Messiah in the novel, giving us a peek into King David’s life. . .and beyond. Beautifully written. It’s a must read!
It brings so much more to a well known Bible story. It lets me see everyday issues in a new and better light. I love this authors books!!!
Tessa Afshar can bring a familiar story in the Bible to life in the most engaging way. I love reading her books then going back and reading the story out of the Bible again. It brings new things to life.
