Emil isn’t your usual adoring leading man.
He’s the monster anti-hero.
Aishe isn’t your classic protagonist.
She’s the temptress anti-heroine.
This isn’t your typical romance.
It’s a horror anti-love story.
This isn’t the traditional novel where the sweet, innocent girl finds her prince charming and they live happily-ever-after. If that’s what you’re looking for, look somewhere else.
Because … for, look somewhere else.
Because in this story, no one gets out unscathed.
Aishe is running. Running from the burn of a love she knows will consume her.
Running from a soul mate she’s never even met.
If only she hadn’t been hired as a merch girl for the hottest indie band on earth.
If only she’d never laid eyes on its front man, Emil—intense, sexy, and so unlike the men of her culture.
If only she hadn’t fallen onto his lips, then into his bed.
If only her flame hadn’t exploded into a full-on forest fire.
If only Emil’s heart didn’t belong to someone else.
***
Emil is running. Running from a broken heart.
Running from who he was with her.
If only Zoe hadn’t left.
If only Aishe hadn’t been right there.
If only she hadn’t been so damn gorgeous—insistent—different.
If only he could control himself around her.
If. Only.

This definitely is not your normal romance and if you have a problem with that, then this isn’t the book for you. Overall I thought this was a good book. I will admit I was confused through a lot of it. I just didn’t get the whole gypsy love-fire thing, but that doesn’t mean someone else won’t. Despite being confused, I found myself engrossed and wanting to know what happens next.
Emil is the lead singer of Clown Irruption and suffering from a bad case of broken heartedness. Aishe is hired on as a merch girl and finds herself smitten with Emil. Together they find themselves knee deep in a relationship that they are both struggling with.
Sunniva does touch on some very deep subjects and does an excellent job bringing these characters to life and making you feel as if you’re right there with them. So many people suffer from depression and think they are fine and refuse treatment or help. I’ve never dealt with this level of depression myself, but have loved ones that have, and it really is debilitating. The angst and heartbreak that all these characters go through, not just Emil and Aishe, will put you through a ringer of emotions. There are twists and turns that I didn’t see coming, and some that I did. It’s hard to read knowing that Emil is spiraling out of control and you’re afraid of what’s going to happen when you turn the page.

Wow, wow, wow..I’m going to be thinking about this irreverant rocker star bad boy Emil for a long, long time. He had everything he wanted, a perfect for him soulmate, Zoe, his bands fame is skyrocketing from a crazy video that went viral. That fame is now part of his problem. Yes, he loves his band, his mates, making music and rocking out for his fans, but now everyone wants a piece of him. Zoe is crazy jealous and thinks he cheated on her, disappearing out of his life, refusing to talk to him or hear his explanation. He is ruined by the loss of her, obsessed by the thoughts of her.
Aishe, the new merch girl, joins the tour and sets her sights on Emil, even though everyone around the band knows that he’s emotionally unavailable. He spends his time drowning his sorrows in alcohol and groupies but Aishe is beautiful, available and willing, so why not find some mutual satisfaction together? Will Emil lose himself in Aishe? Will Zoe ever forgive him? Hard to not wonder what she’s doing when her best friend is Nadia, Bo’s own true love and is also on the tour bus.
There is some major angsty drama in this book, with Emil the star of most of it. As the book goes on, emotions rise and get more complicated and tempers become heated as the band deals with Emil’s personal life.
Fair warning- dark and twisty is what you’re going to get here and pieces of this story will definitely knock your socks off and make you say…W.T.F.???? O.M.G…make you cry and want to RIP out chunks of your hair. You won’t see some of it coming at all, but it is sooooo good, you won’t care. Emil, you almost broke me and my rockstar loving heart! Break out the tissues!
Read it, love it.
This is the second book from Sunniva that I have read. It is a great continuation from Walking Heartbreak. All the characters from WH are back and this is Zoe, Emil and Aishe’s story. This was a very emotional book. It deals with heartache, depression and romance. Love the way the story was written. Can’t wait to read more from this author and hopefully more from this series.
I am a little out of sorts. The last chapters still have me . . . on edge. With a couple deep, dark, tough, touchy subjects, I need a few days before I share a full review.
Sunniva is a genius! This book was pure brilliance. The characters; the depth of how far a person’s mind can go when they know they are missing something in their life. Or when they realize they will never be able to grasp what they think need to feel complete. Heart wrenchingly amazing. Leaves you feeling every possible emotion and you want more.
This did not go the way I expected at all!
Aisha has joined the team of Clown Interruption as the merchandise girl, she comes from a Romany background and fears the curse of falling in love and being consumed that she has seen befall a number of women in her past.
Emil is the Singer, he’s a tortured soul grieving for his lost girl Zoe. Still madly in love but using groupies to get him through the tour.
Aisha and Emil both have issues, and both behave badly in their own ways. Hurting themselves, each other, and those around them. People are caught up in the fallout.
Aisha redeems herself in the end, but I feel uncomfortable with one particular situation that was brushed aside.
