Justice with a vengeanceSydney Rye is missing. All that’s left of her is a depression in the dirt and a pool of blood. Robert Maxim is ruthless, powerful, and determined to find her. April Madden is a preacher’s wife, and Sydney’s mother. She’s willing to risk everything…her sobriety, her marriage, even her faith, to hunt for her daughter. But they can’t find Sydney Rye if she doesn’t want to be … daughter.
But they can’t find Sydney Rye if she doesn’t want to be found.
ISIS has a new enemy, a ghost haunting their territory, infecting their flock with radical ideals. They will do anything to capture her. Their reign depends on this new prophet’s destruction.
Graffiti of a woman’s silhouette, set in a snarling wolf’s profile, appears in ISIS-controlled territory convincing Robert Maxim that Sydney Rye is alive. When women in the area begin attacking their abusers, he suspects Sydney is responsible. But Robert can’t believe she is involved after rumors claim a prophet, a weapon of God, has risen to free women from oppression.
April Madden hears the devil whispering to her; just one little cocktail to dull the pain. Instead of picking up a glass, she throws herself into a quest; track down her missing daughter, her only surviving child, and make amends. Traveling into the Islamic State is fraught with danger and thick with obstacles. April doesn’t have her daughter’s combat training or Blue, Sydney’s loyal, giant dog. But she does have her instincts, tenacity and the voice that whispers; your daughter is alive, don’t give up.

The Sydney Rye series has been downloaded over a million times. Recommended for adults who love brave female protagonists, dogs, and action packed series that you can’t put down until you’ve read them all. If you have trouble with the f-bomb, violence or sex (not graphic but out of wedlock).. then you shouldn’t start this series….it’s just not your thing.

Having read a few books by this author I thoroughly enjoyed, this book was disappointing.
It didn’t flow well for me…too mystical, and the characters were cold.
I don’t think I would read any more in this series. Just wasn’t my cup of tea.
I loved this book. It continues the story perfectly. I was sad when I got to the end. I can’t wait for the next one!
Didn’t meet Sydney Rye until the last few chapters. Previous books were good. This was a downer
This book and author are awesome! I have read every one of these books in this series and am waiting for the next one. They don’t disappoint!
Try them and you won’t be disappointed.
Lots of action and suspense in these books.
Emily is a wonderful author. I recommend her.
I love this whole series. Can’t wait for another one
Very difficult to follow at time as the author jumps around in space & time.
It was set in harsh conditions but made the action seem believable.
I didn’t want to stop until I knew how it turned out.
I could not get interested in this. I tried a couple of times but after reading more it just didn’t get any better.
This was my least favorite of the series of Sydney Rye mysteries. Every other page is wasted with a picture/chapter division. Also, it didn’t advance the story in a meaningful way. It’s just a prelude to the next installment.
The best series of a woman with a will to make the world an even playing field. Sydney Rye i the bomb! I love her dog, Blue. Cannot wait to continue reading.
This is Book Nine in the Sydney Rye Series. I am sad that I did not start with Book One because then I would better recognize the characters and their relationships to each other. The book is definitely a page turner, filled with contemporary goings on. Sydney Rye is a fearless, strong female vigilante who tries to right wrongs all over the world. In this story, in the part of Iraq that ISIS has conquered, Robert Maxim, the billionaire who finances her investigative and protection company Joyful Justice, finds the body of Philip, the man who was hired to kill Sydney. Beside the body, Maxim finds a lot of blood that must have come from Sydney, but her body is nowhere in sight. He then sees canine paw prints and goat hoof prints in and near the blood. Robert knows that Sydney never goes anywhere without her huge, wolf-like dog, Blue. Are these Blues’s paw prints? What were goats doing near the blood? Was a goat herder somehow involved? Robert is determined to find Sydney, dead or alive. He sadly informs Ralph Mulberry, Sydney’s partner in Joyful Justice, and her mother, April Madalen. Both Mulberry and April decide that they too will try to find Sydney. The book also explains what happens to the people ISIS conquers. ISIS either kills the conquered men or forces them to fight along side them and takes the girls and women, selling them into slavery. The females, sold to ISIS men, are constantly raped and beaten whenever their owners decide the time is right. If Sydney is alive, where would she fit into what is going on? She certainly would never stand for such treatment of any human beings. I highly recommend the book but do suggest readers start with Book One.
Sydney Rye at her best!
Whew…that would be me releasing that breath I’ve been holding while finishing up this book! Good golly, that was intense. I tried to read it slow but the fast paced action just didn’t allow for that. I could feel my own adrenaline pumping getting caught up in this story. I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was happening next. It’s insane the way Emily can submerse you into the story and make you feel the characters emotions. I loved, I laughed, I cried, I cursed with clenched fists. Seriously, I had to put it down and walk away for a moment because the emotions were overwhelming. This book will leave you feeling all kinds of ways. It’s definitely worth the read.

I have enjoyed the previus Sydney Rye novels, unfortunately Sydney is only in about 5% of this story. The main themes are intorducing new characters and the search for Sydney. It is still well written and consistent with the previous books but I was disappointed waiting for her to show up.
A Multidimensional Adventure!
Once again, Emily Kimelman delivered a fast-paced, thrilling adventure. Sydney Rye #9 picked up seamlessly from #8, and the characters were back in full form ready to rid the world of injustice. The various POVs were refreshing and engaging, creating a multidimensional world. The ending left me full of anticipation and excitement for the next book. Bravo!
After finishing In Sheep’s Clothing by Emily Kimmelman I had to pause and reflect on what I had just read. Another Sydney Rye page turner that I could not put down. It makes me want to go back and reread the series until the next one (#10) comes out. I laughed and cried and went back in time to her and her friends previous adventures and what brought her to this episode in her and her cohorts life (or death) no spoilers – you’re just going to have to read and find out for yourself. Ms. Kimmelman please keep them coming!
