KT dropped a bomb at the end of Gone Too Deep and this book starts off from there and the bombs keep coming! Buckle up and enjoy the read!
In Safe Hands is a fantastic romantic suspense by Katie Ruggle. Ms. Ruggle has delivered a well-written book populated with outstanding characters. Daisy has a crippling case of agoraphobia and can’t force herself to leave her home. Her father’s infrequent visits provide food but comfort is provided by her one friend, Chris. Chris is part of the sheriff’s department and when Daisy sees what she believes is a body being removed from a house across the street, she tells Chris what she saw. Chris and Daisy’s story is packed with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense. I enjoyed every page of this book and look forward to reading more from Katie Ruggle in the future. In Safe Hands is book 4 of the Search and Rescue Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
3.5 stars
I’m so happy Chris got his HEA. He’s been a favorite in this series from the start. While I’ve been disappointed that he never got the girl in those past books (until the “girl” in question would meet their true love and I’d understand why Chris wasn’t the right person), I see now he was just holding out for his Rapunzel.
Daisy is really amazing. I find it amusing that when she first meets Lou it comes out that Lou pictured her as an Amish grandmother, because when she’s first mentioned in Fan the Flames that’s how I pictured her, too. As more of a geriatric shut-in than a young lady with agoraphobia. While the agoraphobia holds Daisy back in many ways, she also leads a pretty full life within the walls of her house. The understanding and friendship she gets from Chris is very sweet. Once her circle of friends expands, we just get to see that Daisy is as wonderful of a human as she seems before she was being sociable.
All the bombshells that were dropped in the last book, Gone Too Deep, came together in this book. Sometimes a bit more slowly than I would have hoped, but the author really had it play out in a realistic way. Of course, Chris wouldn’t instantly think the culprit was who it was. And even when things started to become clear for Daisy and her friends, they were still pretty far off because of pre-conceived ideas of certain people in town.
I never really understood Daisy’s dad, Gabe. I kept waiting for more to come of that character. Or maybe the antiques he brought her to have some deeper significance to the story. There was just something about Gabe and all that surrounded the few interactions he had with Daisy that makes me think there was more to that part of the story that got cut in edits. The story is still a well-rounded and full story, but the character himself was not well-rounded.
Although I felt some of this story moved slowly, I still wanted to keep turning those pages. Katie Ruggle does a wonderful job of writing groups of friends who are warm and fun to be around.

After the bomb was dropped at the end of Gone Too Deep, I’m glad I had the final book in the series, In Safe Hands, ready and waiting. Due to how Gone Too Deep ended, In Safe Hands started off stressful and laden with suspense. No one in the small Colorado town of Simpson has any idea that there is a threat to the town cleverly disguised as someone to trust. The author did a wonderful job building up conflict in the background of the entire series. Each book plays off of the others so I suggest you read this book from the very beginning.
Katie Ruggle’s Search and Rescue series is phenomenal. The world building and character development in each book is extraordinary. The relationship between Daisy and Chris is sweet and subtle. After suffering a horrific event eight years earlier, Daisy hasn’t left her house, ever. She is terrified of anything outside the walls of her home. She’s not alone though. Chris is a deputy in the Sherriff’s department and spends a lot of time with Daisy. He trains her to protect herself and gives her the companionship she craves. The slow burn chemistry between Diasy and Chris is unmistakable and their relationship is fleshed out nicely – slowly and so realistic. The romance is one of several key themes but it doesn’t overshadow the seriousness of the events that unfold. Katie Ruggle does a superb job with these characters not only with their romance but with the struggles each faces, Daisy’s phobia and issues that crop up in Chris’s world, plus the overarching storyline, In Safe Hands.
Katie Ruggle’s writing style is wonderful; her worlds just flow across the pages smoothly, easily, and powerfully. I was engaged immediately and the content kept me focused. There are several themes weaved throughout the story, with one main one that stretches throughout the entire series, keeping the book from becoming stale, but not so much that the reader feels confused or overwhelmed. The characters were well developed and Daisy and Chris are really likeable and realistically written.
I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves romantic suspense!
Wow…… In Safe Hands started out right were Gone Too Deep left off. I wasn’t 22 pages in when Ms Ruggle started dropping bombs left and right. I was straight trippin’! As the plot for the series flows from book to book I would read this series in order, although I think if you tried to read them as standalones you would still be ok. The action in this book was great. Some of the revelations were crazy. I so never saw them coming.
I liked both Chris and Daisy. One thing I really like about all of Katie Ruggle books is all of her heroines are funny, and very unique. Daisy was no exception. She was a total shut in having not left her house in 8 years since she watched her mom get murder. She had issues and they were understandable but I felt myself get angry at her father who let her live that way for 8 years. Daisy was sweet, shy and playful. She knew she had problems and I loved that she braved her fear and started working on getting better. I did have a little bit of trouble relating to her because I felt 8 years was too long to not deal but I still really liked her. Chris was great. He was sexy and sweet. Loyal and trusting he was everything a good cop and hero should be. I loved that he didn’t push Daisy about not leaving the house. He was loving, comforting, and accepting of all of her even her faults and over the top fears.
Chris and Daisy had a super slow build up in their relationship. They both had guilt over her mom’s death and it held them back. But they had such a close friendship and chemistry that their love felt real. I don’t want to give away too much of the plot because it’s a shocker but the two bad guys were super creepy. I don’t know which one was worst but I do know that the fire starter was giving me creepy chills every time there was a scene with him.
What a great read. Action everywhere, the romance sweet, the girl bonding was awesome, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I will say that I wished for more when it came to the ending. I think it could have wrapped up better. Other than that I loved this book and the whole series. I am so glad I got Gone Too Deep from Netgalley, fell in love with George, and got turned onto this series and author. I can’t wait to get my hands on more books of her!
10 Stars!! I love this book. The way Katie Ruggle leads us up to this point in the series is absolutely masterful. I didn’t even know as I read them that this was all going to tie together so completely in book 4. Really, please read these in order for maximum enjoyment. I suppose each stands alone, and I loved each couple, but this was amazing. OK, at the end of book 3 the author gives away a huge piece. Believe me, have book 4 on standby, you will get right to it! As for this story, Chris is an amazing character. He is loyal to his friend Daisy, a loyal deputy and town servant. He is kind and doesn’t judge Daisy for her phobia of the outdoors. Daisy is an OK character, although I found myself really pulling for her from her first sighting out her window. Their relationship develops at a wonderful pace. I also enjoyed how each of the previous couples, Lou & Callum, Ian and Rory, George and Elle, are brought back in. Each of them adds a piece to the puzzle. Most characters are truly secondary, except for Lou and her vivacious sleuthing tendencies. This wraps up so nicely. Although I am excited to pick up the bonus novellas in “After the End”. Katie Ruggle is now on my automatic read list, I give her permission to jump to the top of the pile every time! Thank you for this adventure!
Loved this book. Great series! Keep them coming!!!!
Very suspenseful from page 1! I would recommend it to anyone that likes murder suspense books.
She can’t write them fast enough!
Love Katie. Her romantic suspense series are wonderful.
Katie Ruggle has quickly become one of my favorite authors. The characters are relatable, funny and quite endearing. You just want to follow their stories.
