Highly recommend Sally Fields’ biography In Pieces. Powerful, heartbreaking, surprising, poignant, and and brutally honest, it seems. She does cover acting and her career, but this is more about family, relationships, self-knowledge, and growth and human nature. Listen to the audio book if you can–Sally reads it herself making it even more powerful.
Sally Field tells all in her autobiography, but in a unique way. She writes about her dysfunctional family, but relates her story without anger or blame. She simply tells it the way it was for her, from her perspective. It almost seems that, in the process of writing this book, she made some discoveries about herself. There are also several photos included in the book. I enjoyed it immensely.
Well-written, and not wanting to spoil the read for others, I will just say it was an emotional roller coaster and was often very tough to read. I am glad I stuck with it and finished. I didn’t almost not finish because of how it was written because it often sounds as though the author is right there saying what I read. It is the content that was tough and hope it helps others who had endured what Ms. Field did. It is hard to say I recommend the book, as not all readers will appreciate how well done or the soul bearing memoir.
didn’t finish the book – lost interest
If you like Memoir’s, this is a good read!
In Pieces by Sally Field is an intimate look behind the scenes of her life and career. I’m a huge fan and loved reading about her life. From an absent father, an alcoholic mother and an abusive stepfather through her adult relationships with the men in her life to her career and realizing her worth as an actor, woman and mother. I loved the writing and heard her voice in my head as I was reading. A must read!
Good read
Wow a very deep emotional book about her life
Powerfully honest and informative autobiography that shared childhood experiences that formed the woman she is today.
If one suspects that all that glitters is not gold in Hollywood, this memoir will provide some evidence. The reader also learns some of the ins and outs of becoming a significant actor and the prices to be paid.
Informative and quiet personal. I think she was quite brave to discuss personal
for the world to know.
This book inspired me so much. Sally’s unwavering committment to her craft and her perseverance and determination coalesed into the amazing talent that she is. Her book is honest, gritty and oh so real. Can’t say enough about it!
Field has long been a favorite of mine. I listened to an Audible version of this one, narrated by the author, and was completely engrossed in her story. She shares situations deeply personal, and at times, disturbing. Overall, Sally’s intelligence, wit, talent, and strength of character are evident.
Very interesting and well written. I had no idea that Sally Fields was such a player.
I think Sally Field offered a view of the forced and strangled silence that many women feel they must live in order to survive. Yet she found a way to speak to us through acting and now a chance to speak for some of us through her story. Thank you Sally for not giving up.
Hard to read at times, Sally Fields childhood was nothing like the happy person she seemed in Interviews. She overcame a great deal and continues to do great work.
The style of writing confirms that not only does Sally Fields have a voice to share her story that is articulate and rapier sharp, she is a masterful writer!
An honest, life-revealing, open memoir about actress Sally Field & her marriages, relationships & career in Hollywood. The only fault I have with the book is why she never addresses this one issue – why, after years have gone by, she never made an effort to visit Burt Reynolds, now an older man. She knew he wanted to see her again, just to talk (he spoke of it on TV in some interviews). I now find that tragic, with his passing. Regardless, this is one Hollywood memoir worth reading.
Very honest story of her life. Sad but how she arose from dysfunctional family life to come to be a strong women
I read this book because I was a huge Sally Field fan. However, she should stick to acting! I found the book to be poorly written, poorly edited, as well as difficult to get through. Although I feel sorry for all the difficulties she endured in her life, something good must have happened along the way. Where was it in the book? Sally moaned throughout the book about her guilt being away from her children, but she left them at every chance she could—especially to run to Burt Reynolds. Her kids should have come first, not her love life. If he didn’t like it—or her kids— he wasn’t worth a second thought.
