I received a free ARC of this book and am writing my honest review.
I have been waiting for Marty’s story and man, did Nikki Lynn Barrett deliver! In this return visit to the Love & Music series, Ms. Barrett delivers an intriguing story with characters I have come to love. Her masterful writing style shines as she takes the reader on an emotional journey. This may be my favorite book in this series
Dang it, this book by far is by far one of the toughest books I have read by this author. It had me all over the place with emotions. This book was very hard to put down. I thought last book could the end nope this book and this story needed to be told for sure. Marty has the biggest heart and he just seems to need to find that special someone to let it shine and boy did his personality shine in this book. I really liked Rachel she was not who I thought at first, I thought she might be using Marty or not in it for the right reasons but she herself just has some things she needs to work through and one was connecting with Marty to find out the truth. I love this group of characters every time I get a book with them in it I feel like I could sit there for hours and do nothing but catch up with them I liked how even though there were some very tough situations and subjects going on the author also found a way to insert some laughter and fun with them to lighten the mood. I truly think this may be one of my favorite books in the series. There is sex in this book so may not be suitable for all readers. Over all if you have not read this series grab it you won’t want to put it down or stop reading once you start. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.”
I loved Marty’s and Rachel’s story. This story was full of mystery and suspense. I was happy to see Marty get his story and finally a happy ending for him. I loved seeing all the characters from the previous books in this one. I love this series.
When Nikki Lynn Barrett said she was going to do Marty’s story, I have to say WOW as it was not what I was expecting!! Marty has known Rachel since she was little. There is anger, secrets, betrayal, tears and romance. Marty’s brother Ivan was in a gang [Marty followed his brother all over]. Rachel’s brothers were in a rival gang and her older brother was killed by Ivan [Rachel was 5yrs. old]. It was pounded into Rachel’s head to hate the Kessler family. Ivan ended up going to Prison for murder. Marty took comfort in music as a young adult and joined a band as a bass guitarist. Since Marty was in the background he could prove that he could be a better man.
Rachel’s brother has disappeared and Rachel sees a file that tells her that Darnell still has a vendetta against Marty. Rachel had been doing everything she could to keep her brother Darnell out of trouble as she doesn’t history to repeat itself. Then one day Rachel sees an interview of Baby Stetson and she hears the name Marty Kessler and that is when she decided she had to do something. Marty starts feeling paranoid while he and Baby Stetson are on tour with Kyra Sanders. He thought he was saw his brother several times. Rachel tries to get to Marty to warn him but, she is removed by security. Rachel ends up going to Harmony’s Echo, Texas and gets a room at Harmony’s Echo Inn. She finds out Baby Stetson has a show that night and decides to go. Rachel does finally get to talk to Marty and tells him that she is trying to find her brother and that she trying to keep Marty from harm and to keep her brother from hurting Marty. Marty and Rachel try together to get some answers. Rachel tries talking to her parents but, she gets no where as they do what they always did and that is to make excuses for Darnell’s behavior. Marty’s house was broken into a few times and one of the things taken were all the letters from Ivan [which Marty never read]. Marty and Rachel go see Ivan in hopes of getting some answers but, all Ivan did was give them some names. Then one day Marty gets home to find his brother sitting on his steps and it turned out that he got out early on good behavior. Marty ends up letting Ivan stay with him but, he doesn’t trust him yet. Marty decides to tell the band about what happened when he was younger and to his surprise they did not look or feel any different about him [if anything they offered to help any way they can]. Rachel ends up getting attacked while in Harmony’s Echo. Marty and Rachel are constantly on their guard as they don’t know what or when something is going to happen. Marty buys security camera’s for Rachel’s new apartment and his house. Them one day Darnell gets into Rachel’s new apartment [he disables the security camera] and ends up kidnapping her and holding her somewhere to protect her [he says] and then Darnell goes after Marty and Ivan. While Rachel is locked in a room she finds all the letters written to Marty from Ivan and reads them. She also finds a letter written to her from Darnell. To find out more about this story and what happens with Marty, Rachel, Ivan and Darnell you Truly need to read it. This book will tear at your heart and make you happy [at times] as you read it!! I Truly loved this book!! Thank you Nikki Lynn Barrett for an awesome book!!
Nikki Lynn Barrett writes each book in this Baby Stetson series with such love and compassion, but In Perfect Rhythm she goes even deeper into the realm of true forgiveness. Marty, the bass player for the group, has always been contented to stay in the background due to horrendous things in his past. Both he and Rachel, younger siblings of two warring gangs, should really hate each other, but NLB’s take on this is oh so beautiful. The dialogue between the main characters was told with so much passion and respect. The friendship and support of all of the band members was so sincere and unconditional. The thriller aspect of the story was full of twists and turns and the letters were so poignant. I don’t want to give away the story, but there were times that I couldn’t even see the pages through my tears. That’s how beautiful this story is. Brava, Nikki!
I was looking forward to Marty’s story, and what a story it is! The author did a wonderful job with this book. There are twists and turns, secrets, betrayal, tears, romance and so much more. Marty and Rachel’s lives are tied together from a young age, but don’t realize how much until now. Marty doesn’t remember some of the things he did as a teenager, but is afraid it was bad. I can’t imagine how he felt. He is such a good person now and does so much for others. I hated that Rachel’s family tried to drill in her to hate everything about Marty’s family. I am so glad she had a mind of her own so she could decide what Marty is like. The suspense in this story had me on the edge of my seat at times. I also had tears at times when I was reading this book—some were sad tears and others happy tears. This is a real roller coaster ride you d not want to miss! I loved the book and strongly encourage you to read it. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.
