In Other Words by Jennifer Woodhull was a nice surprise. It was a fun and charming slow burning romance between two longtime friends. Dexter and Sinclair seem like total opposites, but once they meet and become friends, they are inseparable. What the other never knows is that they both have feelings for the other, but neither thinks the other would feel the same.
I loved Dexter, he was not only smart and a successful entrepreneur, but he was sweet and caring as well. Sinclair was fun and sweet and not just another pretty face. They truly liked spending time together, but without ever admitting their true feelings, they remain friends. When Dexter’s friend, Cole, the hottest Bachelor in town, asks him to set him up with Sinclair, what choice does he have?
In Other Words by Jennifer Woodhull was a sweet and sexy friends to lovers slow burning romance. There is a bit of a love triangle, but the story was done well and will draw you in from start to finish!

Happy reading!
This was a very sweet book! Friends to Lovers with a slow burn! Well written with amazing characters! Well worth the read!
In Other Words is such a fun read! I loved every minute of it. Dexter is the cute nerdy guy we all knew in high school. You know who I’m talking about, the one that doesn’t grow into their body until they are older, then they’re the super hot guy who still has the nice guy persona. Sinclair is a perfect compliment to him. She has always been hot and popular, but guys only ever get attracted to her based on her looks. They hardly ever value her for her brain and personality, which is a shame because she is the best. She is loyal, smart, funny, all the internal things you want in a friend/girlfriend. This story is a slow burn romance that I really enjoyed. The story is told from both Dexter and Sinclair’s POVs which I also loved. This was my first read from this author and I’m excited to read more of her work.

This was such a sweet and fun read. It has characters that will keep you glued to the pages. I finished this book in a single sitting because I just couldn’t put it down.
The characters in this story are great. I loved Dex and Clair. Dex is pretty much my ultimate book boyfriend. Sexy nerd to the max. I adored him. I loved that even though he was successful, super smart, and hot he was also a little insecure. It made him seem more real. Clair’s character seemed a little too good to be true at first, but I loved her personality. She was hot, put together, and smart. The fact that she had a job that wasn’t a dream job and she expressed as such made her a little more real to me. Cole was a character that I had a love/hate relationship with. Deep down it is obvious that he is a decent guy, but some of his motives were questionable to me. In the end, I liked that he was adamant about salvaging his friendship with Dex and making things right. Clair’s girlfriends seemed a little shallow at first, but they were always there for her. I would love to read more books with these characters and see how their lives turn out. I also adored Clair’s dad. He was so supportive.
The romance between Dex and Clair was undeniable. They start out as friends but it is so obvious how perfect they are for each other. They are both harboring romantic feelings for years for one another but keep it to themselves. They have such powerful chemistry. When they are together they have inside jokes, know what the other is thinking, knows what the other wants or needs without words, have the same sense of humor, and they genuinely like the same things and hobbies. I totally shipped them from the start. The only thing that I didn’t like about the romance was that we didn’t get to experience them falling in love with one another. By the time the story starts they have known each other for years and already secretly love each other. I would have liked to see them fall in love.
The plot of the story is enjoyable. Any time there is a friends-to-lovers romance there will always be a compelling aspect to the story since you want to know how things turn out. As I mentioned above, the only thing that I felt was lacking was the initial falling in love phase. I think that it would have made the plot stronger. Otherwise, I love the way that things played out. I loved the ending.
Overall, I quite enjoyed this fun, engaging read. It has the perfect mix of sweet and sassy. This is a book that you will fall in love with because of the raw characters and sweet friends to lovers romance. This was my first Jennifer Woodhull book but it will not be my last!
More than words are actions
This story was longer than I expected and yet it was made better for it, thou our Hero Dexter got me so upset at some scenes, he made foolish decions than lead him to be a cinero of sorts.
I enjoyed this story for the vocabulary expansion, the realness of the characters the world created for them was very we’ll written even secondary characters had me wondering what their story was behind the snipets we where granted. And not one to give spoilers I’ll mention in my talk of actions and words he gave her a bracelet look towards the end for it’s meaning total awww moment.
I’ve looked forward to reading this book since the moment I read the blurb even more so when I received the cover reveal with the adorable nerd hottie. I did a happy dance when Inkslinger PR notified me that I would receive an ARC. I don’t do that with many books. Each teaser and snippet just built up my inner bookworm. The entire time, hoping the book lives up to all the hype. Thankfully, it did–actually made my heart sing. I loved it so much that I read it in one sitting and was still thinking about the characters days later.
I love love love the trope of nerdy brainic and hot cheerleader was explored. What nerdy guy doesn’t dream about that? What Woodhull does differently is that the cheerleader has been lusting after the adorable nerd. I use the term nerd with the utmost love and respect–after all the nerds rule the world. This premise/trope is the basis for Sinclair and Dexter’s love story like all relationships theirs is riddled with challenges. The largest of which being that Dexter thinks Sinclair deserves a certain type of man. A pretty boy athletic Alpha male. Clair believes a similar logic. Of course, the duo begin dating other people and even develop feeling for said people but realize these feelings are merely superficial and cause all kinds of issues among all four people including causing a rift between Clair and Dex something that has never happened with them since their friendship began.
Such a cute friends to lovers romance
I loved Sinclair’s affection for words and language in general. Dexter is totally a hot nerd, but you can’t help but fall in love with how well he treats his best friend.
I found this author last year and instantly clicked with her writing style. I love her stand alone novels. I will continue to one-click Jennifer Woodhull going forward!
“I just want you to be happy,” he pulls me into his chest for a hug. “I’ve only ever wanted you to be happy. I’d do anything to make that happen, no matter what. You know that, right? No matter how big, and no matter what the sacrifice.”
Sinclair and Dexter are best friends. And they are completely in love with each other. But neither knows that. After all, Dexter does not think a beautiful woman like her would be interested in a nerd like him. Just as Sinclair does not think that someone intelligent and charming like him would be interested in someone as ordinary and nothing extraordinary as her.
With Sinclair returning after a long period way, Dexter is happy because he can finally spend time with her. What he did not count on was that his best friend and partner took an interest in her. And with a famous and handsome player competing for Sinclair, Dexter thinks he has not the slightest chance.
As the dates between Sinclair and Dexter’s friend progress, more and more the chance to tell her how he feels is distant. But what she may never know is that all the dates, gifts and conversations she had with Cole were orchestrated by Dexter.
As time goes on and relationships get more serious, will these two realize that whatever they felt for each other was wrong, or are they truly soul mate?
Stories of friends who find themselves in love always give a good plot. But here the main couple is only together in the end. Throughout the plot, they start a relationship with other people, sleep with their respective partners and we even have a breakthrough in the relationship of one of them, which may annoy some people, after all, the main couple who has loved each other for a long time shows much love by other people. I know it bothered me.
No great secret, revelation or drama is part of the narrative. Everything is focused on the journey of Sinclair and Dexter, trying to move on. And that, for me, did not work. Unfortunately.
