Royce Nadiri
The moment I woke up from brain surgery, I knew I was screwed. Too off balance, too slow, too broken to ever again claim “situation normal.” Now I spend my free time—I’ve got a lot of it—coding apps and avoiding the world.Until my knucklehead friends set me up.Everything about Inara is so gorgeous I forget my own name, much less how to form recognizable words. I’m definitely not … recognizable words. I’m definitely not looking for love, but maybe it’s time to live a little dangerously.
Inara Ruzgani
I’m the best damned sniper in the country. But after a mission gone horrifically wrong, I have to find a way to repack my scattered emotions in a stronger box. Or I may never fire another shot.
My friends think they’re doing me a favor, playing matchmaker. I can’t deny there’s a spark with Royce that quickly flares into an inferno. But when my past catches up with me, it’s a stark reminder why I shouldn’t trust my heart to anyone. Because if I lose everything, I won’t be the only one going down.

I loved how both the main characters Inara and Royce are normal very strong and level headed people but they each have been through something traumatic that makes them feel less than how they should. Royce shows how determination can over come so much physically but mentally he has still has a way to go while Inara keeps doubting herself where it matters most her job. There is a great mix of emotion, action, twists and some steamy times that had me hooked and needing to know would both Inara and Royce see how good they re for each other and live to see that?!
Inara and Royce find that no matter what you think you can or can’t do there’s absolutely no limit to what the heart is capable of. Inara has what some would call an eagle eye and right now she can’t seem to focus it on anything but her crippling anxiety and fears. These thoughts have plagued her and she knows she needs to get it together. Royce thought that getting the diagnosis for a brain tumor was just about as low as it could get, until while operating on it he suffered a debilitating stroke that has robbed him of a lot of things he used to take for granted. Getting used to his new limitations is not something he is relishing even in the slightest. He never expected the insta connection with Inara. It just simple works with seamless effort regardless of their heaps of baggage. Through struggle and success they will find a way to become whole… together.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book.
Snipers, kidnappers, and who’s got your back?
Inara Ruzgani has no emotions. She’s a rock. An Iranian-American female who enlisted after 9/11, went the Special Forces route, and became one of the finest snipers ever retired from the military. It’s the cold, compartmentalized, focus-on-the-mission that makes her a valued member of Hidden Agenda – ex-military mercs for hire who rescue kidnap victims and take out bad guys. Royce knows all about being the rock. He tried it after his best friend and bomb-disposal specialist got blown up on a mission, but it darned near wrecked them both. Now he’s retired, damaged, and yet getting himself together his working life. Meeting Inara has him thinking they might get it together in a personal way – if only she can trust him enough to let him get close. Patricia D. Eddy takes the ‘tough vet rescues kidnap victim’ plot line down a whole new back alley in this hot romantic thriller with a side of retribution. Great characters and a sympathetic visit to the world of returning wounded warriors mark this second novel in the Away From Keyboard series, and with the HEA for Inara and Royce set up, it’s a new vet’s turn in the next book. I loved every bit of the suspense and the sexy times, and I totally recommend keeping up with this series. My thanks to Hidden Gems for the ARC of this book, and my strongest recommendation (independent, unbiased, and uncompensated, as always) for In Her Sights. Booyah!
Wow! I really liked the first book in this series but this second book blew me away. Patricia D Eddy has penned an “edge of your seat” romantic suspense that is well worth reading. In addition to the love story of Inara and Royce, she puts a spotlight on survivor’s guilt, coping with debilitating seizures and exorcising the demons of one’s past.
Inara was taught, as a sniper, to lock her emtions away in a box. The only problem is that the box is overflowing and refuses to stay shut. Her feelings for Royce keep rising to the surface but putting them into words is difficult. Royce has pulled away from relationships and friends since his brain tumor diagnosis. But now he wants Inara in the worst way. He reveals the full extent of his disability to Inara and expects her to run. She doesn’t.
A ghost from the past targets Hidden Agenda and in particular Inara. Once they figure out the who, what and where, the team goes into combat mode. There are some heart pounding and adrenaline pumping moments as the mission unfolds. Suffice it to say, Inara and Royce get their HEA.
This is a fascinating series that makes you not only think but feel! When reading special ops books, there are always events you hope never happen with captives, shootings and “bad guys” but then again there are technical items you would like to have. This story is no different in that Royce is developing a technology that would be wonderful outside the story-line and in reality. Tracking device for the lost dementia patient seems great! Royce and Inara found each other and in the end, that was what really mattered.
I love how this series is shaping up to be. Inara and Royce are both dealing with their own demons but the chemistry together is explosive. There are health issues and guilt, steam and fun. I love that the relationship develops organically and they are mature about what they are going through.
In Her Sights by Patricia D. Eddy
This is the second book in the author’s Away From Keyboard series since this book takes up after the finish of the first one with matchmaking between Inara and Royce. Both have their own battles with PTSD but somehow they’re able to find their HEA.
Inara is a sniper and now works for Royce and his team but after Colombia and having to chose to kill a fellow team member has made her question her focus on the job. When she meets Ryder who had a stroke after surgery to remove a tumor sparks fly between the two. But when accidents start happening it will take everyone Cam, Royce, Inara and the team find out who has a vendetta for her and rescue her when she’s taken.
Royce has to learn to do everything again after his stroke and it’s made him realize if running his company with Cam is what he wants to do for ever. When he meets Inara who doesn’t care he can’t drive or needs time to find the right words because the sparks that happen between the two are off the charts. He also needs to find out how to fix the rift between Cam and himself after she was injured after a bomb. Both of these wounded people will need to find their way out of the darkness to find the love they both need and want.
Great Story & Narration Captivating & Intense!
In Her Sights
Away from Keyboard, Book 2
By: Patricia D. Eddy
Narrated by: Aiden Snow, Grace Grant
Patricia D. Eddy pens another great novel in her “Away from Keyboard” series. This book is Royce Nadiri and Inara Ruzgani’s story, both characters are connected to characters in the first book. Royce was Cam’s boss, he was not my favorite character in her book but he redeems himself in this book and not just to me, but Cam as well. Inara is a former Military, an Army Ranger who work assignments for Hidden Agenda when called in, the same company West works for. We learned of Royce’s medical condition in the 1st book, he had a stroke while undergoing surgery it left him with some impairments, something he is learning to improve and live with. He meets Inara thru their mutual friends and they hit it off right away. The chemistry between these two was electric, I thought they were great together and for each other. They both have their own issues and battles with inner demons, the can relate to each other, talking comes easy to them when they feel confident enough to share. When Inara finally puts together that certain occurrences were not accidents or coincidences she takes off thinking it was for Royce’s protection. I loved how everything plays out in this book, the story is cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, some angst, action, twists and turns, thrilling suspense, heartfelt and emotional and a great romance. Patricia D. Eddy, thank you for another great story and a thrilling and emotional rollercoaster ride.
I listened to the Audible edition, Aiden Snow and Grace Grant are talented narrators and voice artists. They did a fabulous job portraying the characters, humanizing them and bringing them to life. They gave each character their own voice and personality, as well as heart and attitude. Aiden Snow’s played the perfect Royce, he took that role and made it his own. Grace Grant did the same for Inara. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all of the characters emotions and projected them into their performance. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen
Inara and Royce book is very emotional, a total roller coaster of emotions. Absolutely love Royce and his struggle with his illness. The love and understanding for Inara and her past demons. A definite must read as well and the whole series.
Enjoyed the writing with a very strong female in sharpshooter Inara when she meets up with Royce who has experienced a stroke while on the operating table for a brain tumor. Details some of his struggles to recover as previously he had been in the armed forces as well. She knew what he was going thru and he also understood what she was going thru.
“An hour passes. My shoulders cramp, my eyes burn. But when I set down my palette, the image doesn’t look anything like I’d envisioned. It’s us. Or… what I want us to be. Two trees, holding onto one another in the middle of a storm.”
This was actually my second read through the book, but apparently I never left a review the first time around. Unfortunately, I’m sometimes guilty of that when flying through a series initially.
Following right on the heels of the events of the first book, Inara must handle the guilt of seeing a fellow soldier fall, and Royce must learn to cope with the effects of a stroke following the surgery to remove the tumor threatening his life. Together, they help each other manage the “flaws” within themselves that are mostly invisible to those on the outside.
It isn’t common to find characters like Inara in print (and those onscreen tend to be either caricatures of themselves or men’s fantasies made flesh instead of *real* badass women), so it was refreshing to see such a fierce female veteran that also had a softer, feminine side. She’s scared of nothing when on the battlefield, but just like the rest of us, she’s scared of caring for another person she may lose. She manages to find a kindred spirit in Royce, the gruff former CO we met in Breaking His Code, and watching them reluctantly fall for each other while fighting their own demons made for an intriguing burn throughout the suspense of the story.
While the first book certainly had a fair sense of mystery to it, In Her Sights had a whole lot of action tossed in with that. I also found the heat between Royce and Inara to be undeniably hotter than that of Cam and West in BHC.
It’s a quick and thrilling read, and because Eddy writes characters and events that are so alive on the page, it’s very easy to get swept away in it all. She is easily one of my favorite authors, and every book she writes simply tops the last.
While this could be read as a standalone, book one in the series is free, and the characters from that book spill over into this and the rest of the series, so I’d certainly recommend diving into that one first.
Another fantastic book in this series so far. If u want realistic this is it. Inara is a sharpshooter and works for Hidden Agenda. She’s former Army Ranger and her role is still Sniper for the group. She meets Royce by accident thru his friends. They both have nightmares, but for different reasons. There is a lot of action, danger, heat, secrets and love. HEA.
Inara and Royce, oh my, this couple!
I felt so worried and stressed for Royce and his health issues. I could feel his frustration, as a man especially, and his inability to fight through the seizures and how tired they make him.
Inara has doubts about her last mission and the fact she “hesitated”.
Then they are set up at a dinner and come together, still keep their secrets and past hidden from each other.
Great story!
Wow, really lots to think about with this book. I love love love that the author maintains the relationship between Royce and Cam. It is so refreshing to see a man woman relationship in print that doesn’t have an undercurrent or unrequited love. West and Cams relationship develops some more and as any couple in love they want all their friends in love too and so begins Inara and Royce’s story. Neither one is perfect physically or mentally but together they work toward love. Really enjoyed this and am looking forward to try next book where Rykers story will be more fully fleshed out.
So I spilled into this one from the first one not wanting to miss a beat. Inara and Royce are the ones you want to follow in this or should I say carry you with them. Wowzer these women sure get your attention with this even more so because she still has the touch. Granted guys can give ya lots but this author also makes her women full of guts too when needed. Once again also love has its way and the explosions light up these two. You also get to see familiar ones too. So glad these tempted me.
I liked this book, I would recommend that you read book 1 in the series prior to reading this book, due to continuation of characters. I found the action was at a good steady pace throughout the book while the romance kind of came second to what was happening, Inara and Royce are perfect for each other. Neither one having been in a relationship before makes it perfect for them.
Inara and Royce are set up by Cam and West almost everyone in this book is ex-military which gives them something more in common. Inara is of middle-eastern and British decent and after 9/11 felt the hatred of people who at one point liked her, now disgusted, she remembers when her Mother was mugged, beaten and stabbed on her way home from the store. Growing up in America and then being treated like public enemy number one would be hard for anyone. Royce was Cam’s CO and best friend and they are slowly working their way back to that.
Royce must deal with several health issues and as a programmer ends up helping Alzheimer’s patients with a tracking app he’s working on while recuperating from brain surgery and having a stroke. He’s been dealing with the tumor for 3 years but the surgery to remove it was a success now life can move on, hopefully with a relationship with Inara.
Inara and Royce are hot together, the chemistry bursts the pages into a blaze when they are at it and Royce doesn’t do vanilla sex add a little kink and he’s a happy man, leather and tying Inara up and he’s done!
Doubt has a huge place in this book and I’m glad to see it get’s put away at the end because it has no place in a love story of any kind.
Author Patricia Eddy has woven an amazing and erotic masterpiece! A huge page turner and extremely difficult to put down.
I really enjoyed reading this. It had a great storyline and portrayed emotions well. I would definitely recommend.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Well written story with nice story line and plot
This is an engaging story with trust, suspense, danger, drama and passion with lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing throughout the book.
Highly recommend
I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. I am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the second in the series. In book 1, Cam’s boss, Royce, had a tumor and had gone in for surgery ( this was a subplot so you aren’t missing a whole thing) . We find out that he had a stroke after the surgery and he had to go thru extensive rehab. Inara was n army sniper and now works for a private military outfit. She is having issues because she lost a coworker in their last mission because she (feels she) hesitated. This is a great follow-up to Breaking His Code. Ms Eddy weaves a wonderful story and she really understands the physical and emotional issues facing our veterans when they return to civilian life. I highly recommend this book.
