Wow, I was surprised how into this book I became and quickly. The story was phenomenal and the world building was outstanding. I decided to try a few pages and before I knew it I had devoured the entire book. This book flowed so easily I didn’t realise I had read the entire thing until I had turned the last page. Wow!! Will definitely be following this author from now on.
This was another solid Mark Edwards effort. While it wasn’t nearly as good as Follow you Home (a total classic) or The Retreat–my two favourites by the author–it was nevertheless a solid effort with some cool twists and turns. I was wondering how much of the ghost stuff was going to turn out to be true, but the way it was revealed was really clever with some pretty creepy characters involved.
Don’t waste your time on lesser books, read Mark Edwards!
Jessica is overtaken by the idea her daughter Olivia might be communing with her dead aunt Isabel, and that Isabel’s death was not an accident. A fast-moving story with a supernatural element. Enjoyable.
An absorbing and chilling tale that had me shocked but desperate to know what happened next. Superb—storytelling at its best.
Unique and compelling. A breath of fresh air for the crime genre. This is Mark’s best yet.
Exhilaratingly creepy and all-consuming—I couldn’t put this down!
Super chilling and suspenseful, with a jaw-dropping twist, this is psychological thriller writing at its best—unputdownable.
A bold and chilling concept, with twists that you’ll never guess!
This was my first read of Author Mark Edwards and what a book this was. Jessica and Will have 2 children, Felix 10 and Olivia 4 years old. All of a sudden, Olivia starts acting out in school and she tells her mother that her Aunt Izzy is talking to her. Jessica’s older sister, Isabel, died after she fell from her upstairs balcony railing 5 years earlier. The death was ruled an accident but the family always suspected that maybe it wasn’t. As the story unfolds, there are many twists, turns and surprises in it. This is a very well written book and the characters are solid and likable. This book was hard to put down and I really enjoyed it. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of this fascinating book in exchange for an honest review.
I was positive I had this book all figured out about a quarter of the way in, I couldn’t have been more wrong. This book will draw you in right from the start and then take you down a twisted path that keeps you guessing right to the end. The story had just the right amount of haunting creepiness to take this book right over the top.
The story revolves around two sisters, Isabel, dead from an accidental fall and Jessica, still alive and left dealing with the aftermath. Four years after the accident that took her sister life, Jessica’s young daughter Olivia, begins insisting she knows things about her dead aunt Izzy that she should have no way of knowing and Jessica begins to question the circumstances of her sisters death. The story, developed with the help of different perspectives, gives a complete picture of events. It also serves to reminds us that we don’t always know the reason people act as they do or understand what lies behind the choices they make.
The characters are all interesting and the story so well written you will find it difficult to put this book down. A must read book and definitely a must read author.
