“Turano continues to be one of the funniest voices in the inspirational genre, and her spunky heroines will appeal to readers across the romance spectrum.”–Booklist After growing up as an orphan, Millie Longfellow is determined to become the best nanny the East Coast has ever seen. Unfortunately, her playfulness and enthusiasm aren’t always well-received and she finds herself dismissed from yet … finds herself dismissed from yet another position.
Everett Mulberry has quite unexpectedly become guardian to three children that scare off every nanny he hires. About to depart for Newport, Rhode Island, for the summer, he’s desperate for competent childcare.
At wit’s end with both Millie and Everett, the employment agency gives them one last chance–with each other. As Millie falls in love with her mischievous charges, Everett focuses on achieving the coveted societal status of the upper echelons. This series keeps getting better! Ms. Turano gives us a glimpse of Father’s love for us in this delightful romance. The shenanigans and mystery kept me turning the pages. I loved visiting this small community of dear friends. I’m looking forward to the final installment of this trilogy.
Recommend to readers who enjoy historical fiction with spunky heroines.
I won a copy. All views expressed are my honest opinion.
Jen Turano has hit the ball out of the park with this light-hearted comedic romance. Millie Longfellow is such an unconventional nanny that I found myself laughing at all of the crazy escapades that somehow seem to entangle her.
She is a sweet and endearing young lady who you can’t help but love. This book was such fun I was sorry to see it end! This is the second book of three in the A Class of Their Own series.
Eeehh! I loved this story even more than the first, I think, I mean they have both been wonderful. Millie is absolutely hilarious! She like a walking dictionary, albeit a slightly dysfunctional dictionary. Everett is a great character, but he did drive me a bit nuts in the beginning. This kids were super fun characters too!
A charming story of family found and hope renewed, Jen Turano’s In Good Company will have you laughing out loud!
When I saw that this tale was just released as an audiobook, I had to purchase it! I was thrilled with the narrator Nancy Peterson’s wonderful job interpreting the story in a theatrical fashion that brings Jen’s endearing characters even more to life! I blazed through this delightful audiobook in record time, so if you love Gilded Age tales of romance, suspense, and rags to riches, this is the story for you!
My Rating:
FIVE STARS!
Fun read from Jen Turano, as usual..
I have never read anything from Jen Turano. The cover of In Good Company captured my attention and the blue dress on Millie Longfellow is beautiful, but I had no idea what type of writing style that Turano was. A lot of reviews said that she was funny, but I really didn’t come across anything funny when I read the book. I mostly don’t find any books funny when I read them. Overall, In Good Company was a well-written and captivating story filled with a remarkable romantic ending for any true romance fan.
The plot of In Good Company reminded me a lot of The Sound of Music. Both Julie Andrew’s character and Millie sided with the children and taught the children how to accept others and learn to love again. Both women make clothes out of curtains for the children to have play clothes. Also, both women have a strong faith in God, allowing them both to lean on God during the troubles affecting them. On the other hand, Everett and Mr. Von Trapp both are engaged to snooty, rich women when the story starts but they fall in love with the help, causing a lot of tension around the house.
Millie, the nanny and the heroine, was head strong and was not afraid to voice her opinions. She was raised in an orphanage, but she had to work for the wealthy, which caused a lot of tension. When accepting the job at the Everett Mulberry’s estate, the kids are wild and liked to cause havoc for the nannies, sending them scurrying away. But not Millie. She teaches them the importance of love and acceptance. Everett, the hero, is a man who first believes he must accept what society has pushed on him, but he begins to change that viewpoint as he sees the way the wealthy are not loyal to him or anyone for that matter.
I enjoyed how realistic Turano brought the rich world of Newport Beach to life for me. I loved seeing the fabulous homes and the expensive clothes worn by everyone. The world was inviting. I truly hated getting to know Caroline, the woman Everett is supposed to marry. She is a horrible person who ruins everyone happiness. She is very selfish and hurtful.
Overall, I truly enjoyed In Good Company and want to run out to my local library and find more books by her.
I received a complimentary copy of Jen Turano’s In Good Company from Bethany House and the opinions stated are all my own.
If you have ever gotten one of those books that the moment you start to read them it is very hard to put them down. I read the first books in this series which is “After A Fashion” I knew the next book in the series would be just as great. I started reading it last night and fell asleep and had to pick up the rest of it this morning. I laughed, cried and just loved the whole story line. The 2nd of 3 young women who were taken under the wings of Mrs. Hart and the Reverend Gilmore. She was a nanny that was just a little different working for the society ladies who were snobs and she ends up working for one of her friend husband friend Mr. Everett Mulberry who is dating a very snobby woman who does not like the children that he was given because a dear friend and his wife passed. She didn’t even like Millie because she thought she was a threat. I cried when things happened to the children and I cried happy tears at the end. I would recommend this book to everyone.
Another successful story! I love the humor that this author weaves into such wonderful romances. It had me laughing out loud. Plus there were peacocks. You have to read the story to see what kind of havoc they wreak upon the poor characters. Full review is at my website.
This is one of the author’s better stories.
