The elderly ladies offer a refreshing view of the world. They are amazingly self reliant, but they still held my interest and provoked a sympathetic mood. This is proof that a book can be good without graphic sex, vulgar language, and extreme violence.
This book is excellent! It is humorous and well-written. I laughed out loud at times. It will definitely appeal to women of “a certain age”. I hope to read more of these books.
In For a Penny. I loved this book. These old ladies take no prisoners, well, actually they do.
Two life-long friends, Lillian and Maggie, are trying to maintain Lillian’s falling down home. These ladies are both 72 and widowed. Sere shows up, a fifty something yoga nut from California. Then Abby Ruth, the mother of the Sheriff’s old flame, shows up, a gun toting, boot wearing Texan, and the mess begins.
Lillian goes to the Federal Pen for fraud and leaves the rest of this bunch to carry on with maintaining the house, finding why she is in jail, looking for the local undertaker and avoiding the leader of the historical society who has an ax to grind.
Crazy situations, laugh out loud.
Evidently, somone forgot to tell these ladies to “act their ages” or these ladies decided to not listen. If the rest of the books in the series are this good, the two authors definitely have a winning ticket.
Loved it! Loved the characters who were seniors doing what had to be done to help their friend and take it upon themselves to find the guilty party and take care of their friend’s financial problems. Well written. A wonderful read.
I laughed until I cried. When two great author team up to pen a cozy mystery, I guess I should have expected nothing less. They promote it as “The Golden Girls Meet Dirty Harry”. These four quirky ladies took me on a madcap adventure that proved that friendship is the strongest bond of all. Loved the book. Loved the wit and humor and engaging dialogue.
Book about three older ladies and a scam. Entertaining. Can’t wait to read the sequel.
Loved it, takes you right in to the characters! I’ll finish the series!
I can hardly wait to read the next book. This one was fun.
The original characters in this non-typical story make this an amusing tale.
Quirky characters in a small town will keep you entertained and guessing what’s going on until you get to the end !
First book of the Granny series I’ve read, but won’t be the last. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I love the stories about seniors, because we do have lives after the dreadful turning of age. This particular tale, had an unexpected twist, and relatable characters. Well worth the time to read, I even bought one as a gift!
This was a fun little book the has made me purchase more in the series. The granny characters are light hearted and very unique. Great book to read while traveling, was anxious to get to the end and now read the rest.
Loved it
Great reading
Get some senior women together on a mission to help someone, watch out for the fun and action on how they solve this case to help a friend.
The characters made this book for me. I loved all of the wild things these ladies got up to. I didn’t think there was much of a mystery to the book, but the humor of the characters made up for what the story lacked. I enjoyed reading it, but I don’t know if I would continue the series.
There was some language that some people wouldn’t like among a few other things. I wasn’t bothered by these things, but sensitive people might have some issues with them.
3.25 STARS
This was part of a bundle by this author called SEASONED SOUTHERN SLEUTHS BOX SET 1.
I believe this is my first book by this author. 4 elderly ladies are involved in figuring out who is the villain in the town is. The villain did surprise me so that is a plus.
No romance involved, no lovemaking, some crude language and Lord’s name used. Some mystery and funny dialogue. Easy reading story and some things not solved in this story. (ljb)
Read the Box Set with In for a Penny, Collard Greens and Cat Fishing, and Christmas Cookies and Confession. This was a great way to get to know the main characters. Well worth reading and highly entertaining!
A heartwarming comedy-drama centered in a uniquely eccentric little town with a very realistic & relatable set of characters. I do mean “characters” where some are concerned! However, our star is a sweet little widow with the demeanor, conscience & fortitude of an angel. Having a heart as big as all outdoors she is naturally blessed with a very dear friend, while her life also seems complicated by a young sleepy scammer. The story tells a wonderfully adventurous tale of 3 curious women, & their attempt to solve a crime & right a terrible wrong while helping the sweet little widow loved by all. I would be able to enjoy this book more than once.
If you thought that ‘senior’ woman weren’t capable of getting things done–this novel will disavow you of those thoughts! If something has to get done–trust a senior woman with her friends to get it done.Of course it might not be the most logical way–but heck–it got done!!
You will definitely laugh and cry along with these three very different, slightly zany women as they try to save not only the estate of one of them–but then how to get the owner of said house out of jail. She had been scammed. No way were they going to let her take the fall!!
If you want a really good, clean read–then this is it!!
