Loved the entire series!!
This whole series keeps you interested. Great reading
I enjoyed the series.
Absolutely thrilling! Suspenseful and intriguing. Sunseri keeps you guessing. You will not be able to put them down! Once you finish these three, you will be eager to read more. Lucky for you, there are two more available and book six coming in 2018. Happy reading!!
I seriously had not read a “romance” novel in years until I read “Exposed In Darkness”, the first book of the In Darkness series by Heather Sunseri.. The intense and suspenseful plot line and high-octane, intelligent characters drew me in so fast that I could hardly put it down, and then I had to wait, not very patiently I might add, for books two and three! There is at least one jaw-dropping moment in each book, not to mention a thriller undercurrent, kind of like the musical score from “Jaws”. You should read this series as I reread it in anticipation of the next book!
Exposed in Darkness (In Darkness #1)
Well written suspense with lots of twist and turns that keeps you guessing right till the end.
This series is about and FBI agent currently on leave after the death of her husband who was also an agent who was killed on the job. Brooke Fairfax was devastated after the death of her husband. She shut herself away from the world, her job and family as she tried to heal. It takes her former brother in law – who is the governor of Kentucky – to bring her out of her self imposed exile when his lieutenant governor is murdered and it looks like he was supposed to be the target.
Through out this book Brooke gets clues and warnings from an unknown source. This source has been feeding her information for years – even when her husband was alive. She calls him Romeo and he is one thread that is not wrapped up at the end of the book. This was a very intriguing addition to the story and one that should be interesting to see how is plays out in future books.
The main back drop of this was the Kentucky Derby. In looking for clues as to who may want to harm the Governor, Brooke comes across millionaire and CEO Declan O’Roark. Declan owns may businesses but two are prominent in this story. His thoroughbred horses that he races and his scientific labs. Brooke figures out pretty quick that Declan is innocent but wonders why someone is trying to frame him. She also struggles with her attraction to him as she feels she is betraying her dead husband. I thought the romance was tastefully done considering Brooke’s past. Declan never pushed her for more than she was willing to give and was very understanding of her circumstances.
Brooke is a strong female character that is great at analyzing clues. There were lots of twist and surprises throughout with a large cast of characters who I am sure we will see in the future books. Now I’m off to read the next in the series..
Cut in Darkness (In Darkness #2)
Another thrilling suspense in the ongoing series about FBI Agent Brooke Fairfax.
Brooke has now been fully reinstated in her job and along with her best friend and partner Tyler James is heading the Lexington FBI branch. She’s also still seeing Declan but her fears and grief are preventing her from giving a full commitment.
Lots of craziness going on in this one. The ER’s are over run with drug overdoses from an unknown source and mainly from the homeless and prostitutes. The local police are baffled as to what new drug could be causing this. Its not till a daughter of a U.S. Senator overdoses asks Brooke’s dad for help that Brooke gets involved after being assigned to look into who provided the drugs to her.
Before getting the case Brooke had been looking into the OMG (outlaw motorcycle gang) Samael’s Army. Once she does a little digging into the Senator’s daughter case she realizes that the two may be linked.
The plot of this book was like an onion – once Brooke pealed off one layer it revealed another and kept going. Romeo is back and in his “helping” he ends up putting a really large target on Brooke’s back that puts her in big danger.
All those layers kept you turning the pages and in the mist of all of that Declan decides he cant just stand by and watch Brooke constantly be in danger and enlist the help of a person from his past to help discover who Romeo really is before he winds up getting Brooke killed. We end up finding out some pretty deep secrets from Declan’s past and he hasn’t always been the squeaky clean billionaire he is now.
I really liked the first book in this series but I have to say this one exceeded that. The stories just get better with each book.
Covered in Darkness (In Darkness #3)
Intrigue and suspense galore in this third outing in the In Darkness series. Hopefully no terrorist read this book and get any ideas…
Brooke Fairfax walked away from the FBI to become the Director of Homeland Security of Kentucky. Now you may be thinking that has to be a boring job – what terrorist are interesting in Kentucky. Well, Brooke seems to be a magnet for intense situations and after an intense round of storms tear through Kentucky and the power grid goes down in Louisville what everyone first thought was just an outage due to weather soon morphs into something more sinister.
Brooke and her team at the fusion center soon start getting clues that the outage may be part of a terrorist attack and with the full backing of the Governor they start an investigation. Of course her previous employer – the FBI – including her father who is the Director aren’t to keen on her involvement. But as I mentioned before Brooke is a magnet for all things nefarious and her and her team are getting information the FBI doesn’t have and Brooke waits for no one.
Brooke’s millionaire boyfriend Declan is understandably stressed that she has found herself in the middle of danger again. I have to give him credit though he doesnt forbid her from doing anything (like that would work with Brooke) but he stays one step behind her always having her back and utilizing his old intelligence partner Dimitri to help him again.
This genre is definitely this author forte. She excels at suspense and keeping the story moving at a high rate of speed. And (stalker/informant) Mr Romeo.. I cannot wait to find out who this dude is he is as dangerous as he is helpful and the man has got to have superpowers..
I am a huge fan of this series!
The first book, Exposed in Darkness, was sitting in my Kindle for long before I decided to give it a go. And boy, did I wish to read it sooner. I fell in love right from the start. Brooke Fairfax was a complicated character. Strong yet vulnerable, broken yet standing tall. She’s that flawed heroine we’ll love so much. She’s simply human. And Duncan? Another complex character. Full of mysteries, with palpable kindness.
The stories in Exposed in Darkness, Cut in Darkness, and Covered in Darkness were so intriguing. We got to meet many interesting characters along the way. The side characters in these books were fully drawn, not just a one dimension character to support the main cast, but they stood on notice by themselves. Every time I finished a book in this series, I always longed for the next. Every single time. I always feel the books in this series don’t come fast enough 🙂
I am a huge fan of this series. Brooke and Declan and the troubole they get into is addictive and you just want to see what happens next. There is humor, intrigue and a love story all rolled into one.
Exposed in Darknes bk 1
5* Watching Your Every Move
If you love some suspense with your romance then this book truly delivers. I did not read the prologue or the little snippet about this book so when I started reading I did not know what the story was about. I am glad for it as it allowed the story to build up without a preconceived ideas.
The book held my attention from beginning to end. The characters were well developed and the story line was flowing without leaving loose ends… Okay just one but it leaves you open to the possibility of another book.
Cut in Darkeness bk 2
4* The Next Level
Heather has done another great job with the character FBI Agent Brooke Fairfax. She keeps the character fresh while continuing write a intricate tale to keep the reader engrossed.
The characters and the intrigue are well developed and believable.
Covered In Darkness bk3
4* Disaster Keeps happening
Another great book in this ongoing story line. The characters are so nicely developed with new surprises being offered up with each new release.
Nice little mystery thriller without the blood and guts descriptions. Backstabbing and betrayals with unlikely partnerships being formed temporarily for the greater good.
This is a definate must for boxsets there is plenty of twist and turns with romance and suspense intertwined together. The author keeps your attention with the wonderful characters in a extremely wonderful world building story line that is action packed to keep you turning the pages.
Overall this set gets four stars. This set includes the first three books (Exposed in Darkness, Cut In Darkness, and Covered In Darkness) in the In Darkness series. These books can be read as standalone, but each book builds on the previous ones. There isn’t a cliffhanger at the end of each book, though it is open-ended for the next book in the series. There is violence. I originally read each book individually, but this set makes it easy to keep reading without having to find the next book.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I’m not going to repeat that info here. The main characters in the story are Brooke Fairfax and Declan O’Rourke. The author managed to richly describe the characters, the setting in the hills of Kentucky, as well as the both the bourbon and horse racing industries. These industries are featured prominently in the first book, and are secondary in the other books. You easily get caught up in the emotions of the characters and story. There is plenty of action as well as twists and turns in the books. I really enjoyed these books and storylines.
I look forward to reading more of Heather Sunseri’s other books as well as future books in this series.
