Great start to a new series!
A sexy ex-Ranger, an intelligent, curvy business woman and a jealous cow named Lula Belle all make this an entertaining, heartfelt and sexy romance. The dialogue makes this romance special. It is realistic, snappy, snarky and humorous in all the right places.
I can’t wait to read which man from the At Ease Ranch Ms. Michaels finds the perfect mate for next!
This is a very twisted story. First is the idea of her grandfather having her compete for position of CEO in such a strange way and with tricks included. Next is the idea of brothers name Brick and Stone … but I really loved the concept of helping returning vets rebuild their lives in small town America as a construction company set up on a ranch. This story is full of interesting twists and turns and issues as they fall in love thinking they cannot have a future. It’s a romance, of course it all works out. This one just does it with lots of angst but delightfully.
What a wonderful story. The plot was well written and flowed nicely. I love Lula Belle (the cow that loves Stone Mitchum.) Stone along with his brother and two brother-in-arms rangers, purchase Stone’s grandfather’s ranch. They run At-Ease Ranch as a place where returning veterans can come work and live. They also run Fox-Trot Construction for the returning vets to learn a new job skill as well. Stone feels especially committed to have all of the veterans’ back and lead them into a new and successful career even though there are 3 other partners. Yes, Stone is a born alpha leader. Jovy Larson comes to Joyful, Texas to open a vegan restaurant (in the middle of cowboy eating steak country!) Her cousin Ross is sent to Hawaii to sell snow mobiles. The contest between these two young people is to see who can most successfully run a company in face of diversity. The person who has the better bottom line at the end of the month will get the CEO position of Larson Industries in Philadelphia. Their grandfather devised this contest as both are highly competent people with the skills to run the company.
Stone and his brother own the space where Jovy opens her restaurant. When Stone and Jovy meet, well lets just say to get ready for the laughter. This story was fun to read. Yes, there are some very sad, poignant moments in regards to a specific ranger and the trials that our returning military personnel go through. That is why I so enjoyed this story and the At-Ease Ranch for veterans and Fox-trot Construction. What a wonderful concept.
Stone is a definite alpha ranger male. Jovy is also a strong-minded female. The sparks between them is instant and constant throughout. I loved with scenes between Lula Belle and Jovy though. They were especially funny to read. Ms. Michaels did a fantastic job in bringing the characters and the story to life. I felt like I was right there in the middle of the scenes.
I adored the dual POV format especially Stone’s. There are some strong scenes with him and getting his POV was most helpful. to understand the character I never served in the military especially during the war so to see what he was thinking and feeling was a must for me.
This book is not erotica by any means but there are several scenes that are not appropriate for someone under the age of 18. I do recommend this book for some over 18.
Great book. Interesting characters.
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the novel The Men At- Ease Ranch Series book 1 : In an Army Rangers Arms by Donna Michaels and this review was given freely.
Jovy moves from Philadelphia, Pa. to Joyful, Texas for what was suppose to be a short stay to win a bet but what she got was great friends, a tornado scare, humor in the form of Lula Belle the jealous cow,and a steamy romance with the hard working and caring exmilitary Ranger Stone. Vivid character descriptions provide interest but also a good base for the series.
Jovy Larson moves to Texas armed with a plan and is determined to prove to her grandfather that she can do the job set in front of her and succeed. She is fully aware that setting up a vegan restaurant in the middle of cattle country is going to be a challenge, but it’s a challenge she knows she can handle. But she didn’t plan on having a stubborn and oh so irresistible landlord to deal with too!
Former Army Ranger Stone Mitchum is a man on a mission, and he isn’t about to let anyone derail his plans to provide a welcoming and safe environment for his fellow veterans. He is starting a business with two friends, and is determined to see to it that they help provide homes for as many veterans as possible, which means no time for a social life, or love… but he didn’t equate for a sassy and stubborn tenant like Jovy to walk into his life and turn it upside down…
This sassy and sexy little tale had me intrigued from the get-go, I just couldn’t stop swiping the pages, I had to see if these two would finally stop butting heads and give into the sparks flying between them…they were quite the pair!! I love reading enemies to lovers romances and this one definitely hit the mark, it warmed my heart, left me smiling and looking forward to more! I think it’s safe to say Ms. Michaels has earned herself a new fan!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.
Love every one of Donnas books. She keeps you reading to see what will happen next.
“In a Ranger’s Arms” (The Men of at Ease Ranch) by Donna Michaels is a fantastic read. I loved Jovy and Stone’s story. This book is packed with passion, helping soldiers, entertaining and interesting characters, and more. Lula Belle is a trip! I hope we get more stories about Brick, Cord, Vince, Leo, At-Ease Ranch, and Foxtrot in the future. Recommend to all fans of romance, and soldiers.
YES! This is Donna Michael’s best book yet! I love this author and this book is no exception. I am so in love with these characters. I cannot pick a favorite; okay that is a lie, my favorite is Lula Bell. I want a love sick cow in my life. I feel like I am missing out in life without her! The male characters in this book (all of them) are well developed and portrayed in a depth that is difficult for many authors. I felt each emotion that was written and wanted to comfort and celebrate with each of them. The female lead was strong willed but with a large amazing heart. She fit in perfectly with these solider/cowboys.
I enjoyed that the story was larger than just a city woman meeting and falling in love with a cowboy. There was attention paid to social issues of soldiers returning (slightly damaged) from battle/war, and how fellow soldiers were trying to support them and give them a place to make them feel safe and protected. This was a great addition to the story and really added to the feel of the book and my respect for both main characters. I could feel the love and respect that each person had and I want to be a part of this journey with them.
Please get this book, if you are on the fence, I promise you; you will not be disappointed. It is the best book I have read all year! I could not get enough and I will be re-reading this again and again. This is now in my favorite’s file and permeant book list. Perfection!
