“Hot and humorous.” —USAToday.com Petite, kind, brilliant, and young, Stevie is nothing like the usual women bodyguard Shen Li is interested in. Even more surprising, the youngest of the lethal, ball-busting, and beautiful MacKilligan sisters is terrified of bears. But she’s not terrified of pandas. She loves pandas. Which means that whether Shen wants her to or not, she simply won’t stop … not, she simply won’t stop cuddling him. He isn’t some stuffed Giant Panda, ya know! He is a Giant Panda shifter. He deserves respect and personal space. Something that little hybrid is completely ignoring.
But Stevie has a way of finding trouble. Like going undercover to take down a scientist experimenting on other shifters. For what, Shen doesn’t want to know, but they’d better find out. And fast. Stevie might be the least violent of the honey badger sisters, but she’s the most dangerous to Shen’s peace of mind. Because she has absolutely no idea how much trouble they’re in . . . or just how damn adorable she is.

In a Badger Way is book two in the Honey Badger Chronicles series by Shelly Laurenston.
This story was fun! We spend a lot of time with other characters; like the Jean-Louis Parker family. We also see a lot of previous characters interwoven into the story. It was fun to get all these characters that I’ve liked from the Pride series and the first book of this series. If you aren’t familiar with the cast, then it can be a bit much and overwhelming.
I have really enjoyed the banter/arguing that goes on with the couples, families, and friends. It’s normal for the Pride series and the Honey Badger Chronicles, but this time around it was a bit to much…. It needed to be toned down.
I LOVE Shen our adorable panda, but wasn’t to found of Stevie. The romantic relationship between Shen and Stevie was eh. I wasn’t feeling it. Stevie was just to pushy. She kept saying they where in a relationship or we are going on a date or yes, we are boyfriend/girlfriend, but Shen kept saying NO. She had no respect for him. It was I deiced and it’s yes we are. It all felt forced.
The plot continues with the evil Aunts that are still out to get the sisters, as well as another relative is now gunning for them, and we get another side story of a mad shifter scientist experimenting on hybrid shifters. Their was no one plot line to focus on. We don’t get much progress in any of the plot lines and the mad scientist isn’t really focused on until the end of the story.
In a Badger Way focused more on the drama then on the romance. It was still enjoyable read, but not my favorite from Laurenston.

Stevie may be afraid of bears but she loves pandas and she’s decided cuddling Shen is the best thing ever, even Shen is not some stuffed Giant Panda! Stevie is a threat Shen’s peace of mind because she has a way of finding trouble and she has no idea just how much trouble they’re in this hilariously fun and energetic romance that has readers crying tears of joy. Stevie and Shen have some sizzling chemistry and they have a certain kind of adorableness about them that just makes readers want to reach out and pinch their cheeks. Of course, readers may want to run fast in the other direction if they actually give into that impulse, because while Stevie may be least violent of the MacKilligan sisters, she may be the most dangerous. The relationship kind of creeps up on Shen which is sweet and spicy because while he’s busy pulling her out of trouble he’s falling hard and fast.
The story is a never ending wild ride of fun, excitement, suspense, snark and super tough females that readers can’t put down once they start reading it, in fact readers be prepared to lock distractions out ahead of time because the MacKilligan sisters are demanding and don’t like to share the attention. As usual with this author, the story is fast paced, full of fun, chuckle worthy dialogue and exciting, kick butt action that just keeps going and going and going.
4 stars – It was really good
Stevie is not a normal honey badger shifter. She is a genius tiger-honey badger hybrid who also has panic attacks, especially about bears. The only bear she is comfortable around is the adorable panda shifter and bodyguard, Shen.
This was another wild ride for the MacKilligan sisters. They are still dealing with their crazy aunts being after them and now they have new enemies on top of that. It was a wild ride for all of them but we see Stevie finally start to bloom. She gains confidence in herself and in her shifter side. She also starts easing back into music. I enjoyed watching her grow from a scared and shy sister to a scared and confident one.
Shen was adorable. I loved how awkward he was at times with Stevie. He was also a very calm and chill person, much like you would think a panda would be. His and Stevie’s relationship was a unique one because while he is attracted to her from the beginning he keeps pushing her away. I liked their banter and their eventual fall into love.
Overall, this was another fun and humorous book from Laurenston. I can’t wait to read the next one and see Max fall in love.
This is book 2 in the Honey Badger Chronicles and it is about Stevie and Shen. We met Stevie in book 1 and I don’t know about anyone else but I was definitely curious on how her book would go. And it went beyond what I thought it would! Not only do we get to see how things in her life go but we get to see her grow beyond what I thought was her whole personality and for a bonus we get to see other characters from other books thrown in as well! I was also pleasantly surprised at Shen’s character! I really thought he was this completely laid back, didn’t care about anything type of shifter based off the previous books we saw him in. And to find out that there is more than meets the eye is great! Stevie and Shen are absolutely perfect for each other and I loved how their relationship came about. And as per usual with this author’s books, there are definitely plenty of laugh out loud moments and it is a face paced read with plenty of entertaining moments! I loved it and I cannot wait to read Max’s story!! And I need a story for Dutch as well!!
The mad, menacing and mighty funny MacKilligans are back!
Stevie may be the baby of the sisters but she is scary intelligent. She could blow up the world if she has a bad day – which sadly could have come to pass a time or two if her sisters didn’t watch her like a hawk. She’s not bad or anything, she is just very easily distracted and frightened. And right now it’s bears that are the catalysts of her fear. So needless to say she lives on a street of them and her sister is dating one too!
Shen thought his latest babysitting gig would be boring but it brought him to Stevie. She is worth all the madness he has to put up with from his charge, cos Stevie loves the teenaged artistic genius so he will live another day! Shen may be a Panda but don’t let all that bamboo munching, pacifist exterior full you – he will go warrior bear on your ass if he thinks you need it!
Poor Shen really does not have a chance at getting out of this relationship. Stevie had decided they are together and he has to just go with the flow, lol. The baddies come thick and fast for Stevie but there is some, okay lots of, comic relief from the wider MacKilligan clan, the Li family and all the various shifter organisations that have been keeping an eye on the sisters.
This series is awesome. It’s snarky, sexy, smartassy and chockful of mischief. But why are the baddies or nutters always Scottish? We are nice folk really. We’re not all like the McMafia MacKilligans, honest!!!!!
Stevie MacKilligan is scared of bears, that is scared of bears except Panda’s which has Stevie hanging with Shen Li all the time. Stevie has decided that Shen will be a good boyfriend for her, but Shen isn’t sure how he ended up a boyfriend when Stevie is just Kyle’s friend. Kyle has been staying with Stevie while creating his masterpieces and in turn Shen is his bodyguard and now living with the MacKilligan sisters.
Now someone is out to get Stevie and Shen finds he is protecting Stevie as well as finding himself falling for the crazy woman who surprises him at every turn.
Another A+ read from Shelly Laurenston. I was curious how Stevie’s story would unfold because she is a hot mess with panic attacks, genius mentality and a scary shifter side. Unbelievable and you see a completely different side to Shen who has been so mellow in other books. Excellent.
I admit I didn’t read the first book in this new series however I have read many books by this author so I chose to dive in and enjoy.
Enjoy I did.
What happens when the one woman your fated to have is scared of what you shift into? haha come find out in this funny, sexy story.
What do you get when you throw a honey badger in with a panda? haha
I am so not telling you come find out for yourselves.
Loved this story and I hope to continue reading more.
This. Book. This book is why I love Shelly Laurenston. I laughed so hard, everyone around me looked at me like I’d lost my mind. Stevie and Shen are perfect for each other. Add in Stevie’s crazy sister’s and a slew of other characters and you’re guaranteed a great time, er, a great book.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias.
Listened to the audio version and loved it, I am so glad they got Charlotte Kane back to narrate this one! This book is a must read and won’t disappoint. It was everything I wanted for Stevie’s story and much more! I cannot wait for Max’s book!
I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
It was a great book !
This is Stevie and Shen’s book.
What can you say about the youngest of the three MacKilligan sisters ?
She is a badger tiger shifter, and she is can be startled easily.
( However, it is not a good idea to startle Stevie. You won’t like what happens next! Just saying )
Oh, and she is afraid of any or all predators.
It does not help that she lives in a bear shifters only neighborhood.
(She is surrounded by killer bears!)
You can often find her hiding naked inside a cupboard. ( Don’t judge! )
Shen is a panda shifter. The gentlest of them all. Just so cute!
His diet consist mainly of bamboo, or anything w/ bamboo, or anything made w/ bamboo.
Although he is a panda “bear” shifter, he is not considered to be a predator by the other shifter.
He is too cute to be a predator.
Once again, trouble has come looking for the MacKilligan sisters.
In true MacKilligan form, they stand their ground ready for a fight.
There is always some kind of government entity that wants to use Stevie for their own purpose.
Can’t they just leave Stevie alone.
You know what happens when she is startled or she starts to panic.
This is such a hilarious read.
I love all the books by this author.
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
The MacKilligan sisters’ story continues, IN A BADGER WAY by Shelly Laurenston. Honey Badger/Tiger hybrid, Stevie MacKilligan goes undercover to help capture a scientist experimenting on hybrids. Simultaneously, she sets her sights on Bodyguard/Giants Panda shifter, Shen Li. This contemporary PNR is suitable for adults. It will have you laughing uncontrollably.
I can always count on Shelly Laurenston to make me laugh so hard that I cry. I love her humor. I find it amusing how she adds in different animal quirks of the shifters. Top that off with the hybrids and she takes it to another level of entertaining. There is never a dull moment in this story.
I love Stevie. She was a child prodigy in both music and science. I love the way her mind works. The stuff going on with her family is always amusing. Shen is the perfect boyfriend, whether he wants to be or not, for Stevie. He’s laid back and happy. I love how he chews bamboo any time he wants to distract someone’s attention.
I appreciate how Shelly Laurenston includes characters from her other work in this story. It’s fun when someone from a previous book pops up. I’m always excited when Shelly Laurenston comes out with a new shifter book. I was not disappointed. IN A BADGER WAY had me laughing throughout the entire book. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Wow, Charlie, Max and Stevie are at it again. I love Shelley Laurenston books. Her fast-paced, hilarious storyline pulls you in and keeps you turning the pages until the end. There are so many amazing characters in her books. There are funny and laugh out loud moments from the beginning until the end. I love these snarky, sassy take no prisoners sisters. I can’t wait to read the next book.
All I say is wow! That’s how I always feel after I finish reading one of Laurenston’s books. I think it has to do with how funny and fast-paced they are. You end up feeling like you started it and then it’s over.
I’ll let you in on a little secret, I find with her books when I get to the end I’ll read a page and put it down and then pick it up later and do the same thing. I think it’s because I don’t want it to end.
Because in my heart I know I have a whole year before I can read another book in the series. The wait is fine until about a month before the book comes out, then I find myself not being able to get into anything.
Silly, I know!
What can I say, I love her books that much. If you haven’t yet read her…why!!! Okay, I’m pulling back a little. What I’m trying to say is that you really should give her a try. Her books are always funny, but also touching too. You really need to read them.
In a Badger Way is the second book in the Honey Badger Chronicles, but it also touches on her Pride series. Many of the characters from that one show up in this series which makes the series so much more richer. I love visiting with the other characters.
I totally love Shen. He’s so sweet and just plain nice. Something that not many of the shifters really are. Nothing much rattles him. Which is a plus for the group of people he hangs with. Also when you love a crazy woman (Stevie) you need to be pretty chill.
You will love the relationship between Stevie and Shen. I love how she tells him all the time how they should be together and how their relationship to go. Poor Shen just follows along. The good thing for him is that Stevie is never wrong.
This book should come with a warning label, -Beware you will laugh out loud, roll your eyes, and never want to put it down. Within In a Badger Way, Stevie MacKilligan, child prodigy and honey badger/tiger hybrid, burrows her way into your heart. With severe panic attacks and bouts of depression, Stevie often jumps and overreacts to any sudden movement especially bears. Her sisters Charlie and Max have left a trail of bodies protecting their baby sister from all the people who want to use her brain for evil. Her best friend is another child prodigy and Stevie finds his bodyguard too sexy for his own good. Shen, giant panda and bodyguard extraordinaire, thought his life with the jackels he was insane, he quickly finds himself in over his head when Stevie declares him her boyfriend. With a giant tiger striped honey badger that constantly burrows, a family that rather kill you than look at you, and an evil scientist that wants to destroy hybrid shifters, Shen’s days quickly become so much more than hanging upside down from a tree eating bamboo. Totally crazy and hilarious, Shen and Stevie will keep you entertained as giant pandas and honey badgers become the all time greatest shifters in paranormal fiction.
In a Badger Way was one of my most anticipated reads/listens of 2019. I fell in love with Hot and Badgered last year and couldn’t wait to get more of the MacKilligan sisters! Stevie, the youngest sister, is bat crap crazy (literally). She has a serious panic disorder-if you startle her or stress her she turns into a 2 ton badger tiger hybrid. Charlie and Max, her sisters, are very protective of Stevie because she is brilliant and kind of a mess. I was not sure how Stevie could be the heroine. I mean, who would be able to be in a relationship with Stevie? Enter Shen.
A giant panda shifter enters a house full of bears and he is a body guard to a weasel. Nope, not the start of a joke! Shen is super chill. He is the yin to Stevie’s yang for sure. He is swept into the MacKilligan chaos because he is assigned to protect Stevie’s prodigy friend, Kyle.
“I like my toes. You can’t be a dancer and have pretty toes. And from what Kyle has told me…you have some fucked-up hooves.”
What I love about this series is how ridiculous it is! Stevie is this genius girl whose life is a total disaster in every area except science. Max is a psychopath (I mean that literally). Charlie is a compulsive worrier. They are surrounded by a slew of crazy characters and I love it all. It’s just a mad cap story that is delightfully entertaining because you simply cannot fathom what will happen next. And how can you not love Shen? He is so tranquil even when things get a bit tumultuous. I also loved that Stevie gets her panic disorder under control a bit. I really felt that she would never be a good match for Shen if she was still so neurotic she couldn’t function normally. His zen does help her keep from going bat crap crazy!
“Gangsters soon learned the local nuns were not to be fucked with.”
I adored the audio for Hot and Badgered. In a Badger Way was narrated by a different narrator. Kane was good, but it didn’t quite have the same magic as Odom brought to book one. Still, a great listen that I recommend!
I love the MacKilligan sisters, especially Stevie. She’s afraid of bears. And she doesn’t like to be startled. Somehow she keeps finding herself in situations where she encounters both, bears and being startled. One bear doesn’t seem to bother her and Shen finds himself wanting to protect Stevie. Even when he doesn’t agree with her decision to meet with a man that they believe is experimenting on hybrids. While protecting Stevie is Shen’s idea of what’s happening, Stevie’s idea is totally different. Will they ever agree on what’s happening and also be able to stop the experiments?
I’ve been patiently waiting for this book ever since I read the first in the series. Charlie, Max and Stevie are some of the craziest and badass heroines I’ve read. I get suck a kick out of women who grown men fear.
I would suggest reading Hot and Badgered first. There are many side characters in this series with the main focus on the three sisters. This one features more of Stevie but where Stevie goes, so does Charlie and Max.
This was very entertaining with some pretty outrageous scenarios. I can’t tell you how much I laughed out loud reading this.
There is also a lot of violence. I feel that’s to be expected with as many shifter breeds that are featured, but this is a step above. These women will do anything to keep each other safe and they are more than capable.
The romance aspect is on the slower side but it just as entertaining. Stevie has decided that she and Shen are dating and he doesn’t really have a say in it. They are a perfect match. Stevie is neurotic and Shen is as calm as can be.
I loved the glimpse we got of Charlie, Max and Stevie as they were young girls. It explains so much as to why they have grown up to be the way they are. I’m really looking forward to Max’s story next.
Second book in the honey badger chronicles follows on from Charlie’s story with Stevie the little sister of the trio. This excerpt brings all the weird and wonderful world of the honey badgers back to life with a vengeance. It confirms the closeness of the MacKilligan sisters and the major change one of them will be making to Shen a giant panda’s life. You will already be laughing out loud and waiting in anticipation for more.
Rated 4.5 Stars
In A Badger Way is an over the top, ridiculous, laugh out loud funny read with action, romance and suspense (not in the sense that you don’t know who the bad guys are but their end is a bit of a mystery). It’s also about realizing that what you thought were faults really were strengths and finding someone who sees your perceived imperfections as perfection. I loved this story especially the off-beat and quirky romance between Stevie and Shen. I love these badass and weird honey badgers. This series just seems to get better with each new book. I cannot wait for Max’s story and the mayhem that will ensue. I highly recommend this series.

Oh, how I love the crazy this world provides.
I really do and that’s exactly why I read these books. I love the over the top interactions and reactions of these very unique characters and they never fail to have me laughing out loud at their antics and this one gave me exactly that. I laughed out loud, rolled my eyes and did my best to keep up with everything going on (which can be difficult at times) and though I am a bit exhausted thanks to the crazy, I definitely want more!
Now, the thing with these books, this world (and many of the authors other worlds) I don’t really read them for the romance, in part because I find the crazy more interesting, but mostly because the romance doesn’t follow any normal path and sometimes just “Happens” and the majority of the time the couple in question totally work, as it did Stevie and Shen. On the surface they shouldn’t work, the genius and the ‘bodyguard’, but Shen soothes Stevie’s anxiety in a way most can’t. She, in turn, does tend to drive him batshitcrazy, but he ends up loving her mind and how she keeps him on his toes.
Antagonistic, but loving friends and families, inhumane experiments, baking and lots and lots of threats of bodily harm, this one had all kinds of crazy going on and it all worked for me. I loved catching up with Charlie, Berg and Max, and getting to hang out with Kyle, Oriana and the rest of the crazy cast of characters that they come into contact with. And as for the ending…I’m definitely looking forward to getting my hands on the next book!
