Cold, ruthless.
I’m Paulo García’s monster, and I’d swallowed that bitter pill whole, learned to deal with it… until she stormed into the house like some avenging Valkyrie.
Brave, beautiful.
Nicky just wants to save her brother. She showed up with an envelope full of cash and a smart mouth and found herself in a den of monsters. I wish I could say I was the best of them, I wish I could protect … smart mouth and found herself in a den of monsters. I wish I could say I was the best of them, I wish I could protect her — but I’m far from perfect.

If dark romance is your gig, this book will absolutely delight. It tickled all the right places for me. Tortured dominant hero, hot twisted sex and page-turning suspense that kept me reading late into the night.
Dark and sinful only scratch the surface of what you’ll find in Imperfect Monster. Andre is decadently evil… or is he? All I know is that his heart of gold is hidden under so many perfect layers of wickedness that I could not stop turning the page. And don’t forget the delicious sex. The heat between these two star-crossed lovers will melt your panties right off. You’ve been warned.
A perfect balance of cringe worthy darkness with a dusting of romance – this is a dark and very emotional read – absolutely loved it
“Pain and pleasure so inextricably intertwined that they held no real meaning anymore. I hurt, and I didn’t. I was happy, and I wasn’t. It was perfect. And not. Perfectly imperfect.”
The minute Andre was introduced in Imperfect Monster I fell for him instantly!
Yep love dark brooding demanding ahole heroes.
I also love sassy feisty courageous female leads which Nicky is.
Andre and Nicky are totally opposite in nature and temperament.
So when they come together it’s firecrackers and explosions!
They are dynamic together.
This book is packed with suspense, drama, fright and some scorching sizzling hotness!
Imperfect Monster is a dark thrilling book that had my heart thumping and my blood flowing rapidly.
I appreciated how Ms. Bene balanced Nicky’s ordeal.
How she got it down perfectly between the gut wrenching tough parts and the rest of the book.
Great dark intense romance!
If there is someone that can walk that dark line between consent and non consent then it is Jennifer Bene. She is an amazing writer of dark romance and it shows in this book. It is very dark, but it could have been darker. Sometimes you can imagine what happens next.
This is the first book that jennifer Bene has written in the first POV and it works great. You can get into the mind of Nicky and Andre and what they are going through. The darkness that resides in Andre, but that gets pushed away a bit by the light that is Nicky. Being undercover with Monsters, means you have to become one to survive. And Nicky spirit and her will to live and to make it out alive.
My favorite line in the book : “She sounds pretty when she cries, and even better when she screams”.
Wow, finally a book labelled as dark that truly is dark. This is the somewhat violent, often twisted and definitely dubious and steamy story of Nicky and Andre. And what a well written, attention holding, mind-blowing story it is. There are parts of this I’m not sure that I should enjoy, and other parts that I read whilst hiding behind a cushion ….. reactions that only a really good dark read will elicit.
Nicky is a strong female, whose naive innocence leads her into a nightmare situation, one where death would be a blessing. However she is a light that calls to Andre’s black soul, the monster wants to save her from others, but will she survive him?
Andre wasn’t quite as black as he painted himself. His soul had a teeny, tiny chink of light in it – or perhaps it wasn’t quite as pitch dark as the rest of it. He’d once been good but too long in a dark and violent underworld had stripped his humanity. However Nicky could see, and brought out, the good in him. But don’t be fooled – this is Jennifer Bene with one of her dark reads and the heroine will have to survive some horrendous ordeals. Andre’s not a hero, but I can guarantee that by the end of the book you will love him. This just goes to show how talented the author is at crafting deranged and dangerous anti-heroes that we just can’t resist.
You know you’ll be rooting for Andre to become Nicky’s knight in shining armour. However that isn’t what he wants to be, or can be and there will be parts of this book that are both unexpected and difficult to read. They are also what makes this such a gripping story. The writing is excellent, I flew through the story, totally mesmerised by it and unable to put it down until it was finished.
It’s not a book for the feint of heart but if you like dark you’ll love this.
I have been waiting for months and months for this story. Nicky and Andre first showed up in a short story, where I first fell madly in love with Andre, who is a dark man and anti-hero. Finally getting his story and getting more of Andre was perfect. This story is perfect. It has all the darkness that I’ve come to expect from a Jennifer Bene story with all of the action and romance that she gives us too.
Nicky just wants to be able to protect her baby brother. Now that their parents are dead, he’s all she has left. When he gets beaten and ends up hospitalized, she discovers that he owes a drug dealer and human trafficker a lot of money. She scrapes up the last little bit of money she has so that she can pay off Paulo and get him off her brother’s back. Too bad she doesn’t have enough.
Andre has been hiding who he really is for so many years he may actually not know anymore. Every second he stays with Paulo, he loses a little bit more of his soul and humanity. When Nicky shows up, he feels something for her and knows he has to have her.
Andre fights himself so hard. I don’t think he was ever as much of a monster as he thought he was, but he wasn’t really all that good a guy either. Not a totally bad guy though.
Nicky is a strong character who doesn’t always think before she acts, which is how she ends up where she is. She really struggles to figure out what’s happening with her life now.
I love Jennifer Bene’s darkness and her evil, devious, tricky brain. The first gun scene in this book seems like it should be wrong, but somehow it comes off as right in all the dirty ways. Andre just does something for me. Andre and Nicky’s story is so hot and magnetic. It dragged me in, melted my panties, twisted me around, turned me into a pretzel, and then spat me back, breathless, aching, and needing more. I wanted and needed so much more of this story, and while what I got was satisfying, it’s like that last piece of chocolate. It tasted so good, and you felt so good eating it, but you still want just one more piece. I want just one more piece of this very dark chocolate.
Who is the worse of 2 evils?
This is my 6th book by Jennifer, and will definitely continue reading her books as I love how she presents both points of view. Nicky walks into the Lion’s Den figuratively to pay off her brother’s debt. What she doesn’t plan on is being held captive. Andre is an undercover cop for more than 2 years who can’t let Nicky be used, so pays off the remaining debt to make Nicky his property with the provision that his boss can have her if he wants. Andre lets his dark desires overtake him when he is with Nicky and Nicky is confused as to why she wants to be with Andre. With the big bust almost upon Steven, will he be able to get Nicky away or will he lose her to the life he has been living? You have to read to find out and you will not want to put the book down.
Andre is working undercover for a South American drug lord now based in Miami. Nicole shows up at his house to pay her brother’s debt. She does not enter humbly or quietly, and she does not have enough money. What will happen? Will the mob boss decide to keep her? Will the other criminals put a claim on her? Will Andre be able to save her for himself?
This is a deeply dark story of men who have descended into criminal and moral depravity. Andre is a monster, and he is imperfect, but reading their story just drew me into their deep sensual passionate desires. I highly recommend this soul shattering story of discovery and love.
Jennifer Bene’s darker side definitely came out to play in Imperfect Monster and she’s certainly not afraid to let loose with the brutal and violent side of the mafia and her antiheroes!
Nicky was feisty, brave, sassy but very naive at times, mouthing off when she should be quiet. Entering the lions den was a really stupid thing to do, but she would do anything for her brother and thanks to him she was about to find out who she really needed to fear.
Andre was an enigmatic mix of brutal and gentle, cold and caring, cruel and kind. He was darkness and light, protective and obsessive but torn between duty, loyalty and keeping the dark secrets he had very close to his powerful chest. He was not a good man, dark, brutal and downright intimidating at times but there was enough glimpses of what was inside to give him a chance at redemption…….just! There was no doubt he was a monster with the things he did and what he put Nicky through, but was he the lesser of all the evils in Paulo Garcia’s house, or the worst?
I really enjoyed this, despite the dark, violent themes in this book. There are some serious triggers so it’s not for the faint hearted, but if you love an anti hero in the true sense of the word, who keeps his hardness despite finding someone to soothe his broken soul, I’d recommend reading this. It certainly kept me turning the pages!
4.25 stars
I really enjoy the way Jennifer Bene can take a messed up situation and make it better. Well to be truthful “better” is a relative term…. The Hero (for lack of a better term) is not a nice guy. The Damsel (also not quite right) is in a situation of her own making. Jennifer takes these two opposites and combines them with some other REALLY Bad guys and you have a story that exploded across my imagination. I enjoy these rollercoaster adventures and look forward to more from this author.
This plays Mind games with you as you are always thinking ” omg it’s going to happen” as the plot thickens and the secrets and danger comes to fruition the question is who is Andre and will he be enough to stop a pack mentality led by Paulo who want Nicki anyway they want. Good story definitely keeps you on your toes. I voluntarily reviewed this book.
Deep breath, breath. A wise man told me “the road to hell is paved with good intentions”. Should I start with the visceral feelings this story evokes or the crazy dark that is so filled with twists I felt like I was in a cat 5 hurricane. Wind beating and battering, gasps, shaking my device saying “no, no, no, don’t” only for it to be done darker than my mind anticipated. If you love dark, con, non-con, dubious con this is it. It didn’t even come close to a 5 star more like a 10 star. This author brings to the table crazy insane storytelling abilities that, get this, left me exhausted not only emotionally or mentally but physically too. The latter has never happened and I think it had to do with the angst, twists, the dark, pitch black creating a rapid heart rate. I can’t say enough if you love dark and delicious then this is a must read.
Top notch dark erotic capture romance. Andre is an excellent anti- hero and you can’t help but love him. Bene is a master at this type of story. It’s not a pretty story but it’s captivating. I read it as an audiobook and it was excellent. I highly recommend this book.
She did it again. Jennifer Bene sure knows how to make the unthinkable exciting. Andre is dark and amazing. Nicky is fierce but naive. And when Andre drags her into the dark with him it is explosive. I love how this story played out!
What a crazy, exciting read this one was. Ms Bene’s books are always the kind you can’t put down and they leave you feeling like you need to look over your shoulder for the boogie man. Andre was an enforcer for a drug lord. Nicky tried to pay off her brothers’ debt but caught the interest of the drug lord. The crazy started and didn’t end. Sex, rape, forced anal, degradation, guns, fights, murder. This one kept me on the edge of my seat more than once. I absolutely loved the ending. I received an ARC and voluntarily left an honest review. This is one that you won’t forget anytime soon.
I’m a big fan of Dark Romances and Jennifer has fast become my favorite author in this genre. Imperfect Monster is a perfect example of how she weaves exceptional, but often messed up, characters into a story that not only keeps one turning page after page, but intertwines a great story, physical and emotional pain, with some panty melting scenes. I am voluntarily reviewing an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great, dark, twisty romance!
The story sucks you in from the beginning. Edge of seat situations. Great characters with depth.
Nicky marched herself into danger, Paulo’s house, to pay off a debt of her brothers. Andre saves her from further abuse but not from him. Despite herself she falls for Andre and him for her. Andre and Nicky go through some situations but make it out the other end. Nicky more stronger and Andre have some redemption. Loved the ending!
With seductive language you are sucked into the story right from the beginning. A cast of characters that give you the chills in their believability. Hopelessly caught among them a girl on a quest to save her brother. Now she needs saving and there’s no help in sight. Or is there? I can’t wait for the continuation of this story in 2018 !!
That was my hope when I read Monster in the Heroes Undercover anthology. And here it is, the story from beginning to end.
Ms Bene turned this short into a tight, edgy tale, with so many disturbing characters, that you can watch the goose bumps crawl across your skin.
While I am almost choking on what i want to tell about this book, I’ll restrain myself to short hand.
It goes from dark, to very dark and sadistic, and then there’s light at the end of a very long and uncomfortable tunnel, and at the end… Ha! Gotcha!!
Phew!
Omg I’ve been waiting for this forever.this started in hero to obey I’m so glad for their story . the romance is hot with tons of spice. I love jennifer benes darkness. story may have some triggers for some be warned
