I read a lot of romances and this one has the most emotional impact I can remember reading in a long time. I loved how Wilson unraveled the emotional wounds for Jamie and Molly who are grappling with their new normal of their physical losses. I loved this story because the impetus and motivation for the romance is what lies within a person’s heart and soul, not the emphasis on a set of attractive breasts, which the author points out in the author notes in back of the book. The author writes this straight from the heart to show us what it is really like after a mastectomy. Wilson bleeds on the page and I salute her for doing so with courage and honesty. I loved both characters. The hero has learned and adapted to his impairment, which has opened his heart and awareness of sensing what’s going on with people around him. I wanted him to be just a little flawed, he seems too perfect. But that’s part of what made us all fall in love with Jamie. I highly recommend reading this book. Readers will be immersed in what it’s like to have a romantic relationship after a mastectomy. Well done!
Now that I have a bit of a lull in my ARC reading I wanted to jump into my TBR list and I knew I wanted to catch up with the characters in April Wilson’s McIntyre Security Bodyguard Series. This is the 5th book in the series and this story revolves around Jamie McIntyre and Molly. I liked how the title reflects how both main characters have their own personal imperfections, even though these imperfections are physical, Jamie and Molly really internalize them. April makes you really feel for the characters and I love the determination of Jamie to make Molly see to him she is perfect. I liked the danger aspect to the story, it really keeps you reading. Some stories I stop at the beginning of a chapter to deal with real life or to go to sleep. With this story, I couldn’t put it down and my family lived with leftovers for dinner….they still love me though. I loved how April also included past characters into this story and was able to keep the timeline in check, no jumping around or confusing, it was perfect.
I can’t wait for the next books in this series to come out.
I have to admit that I completely skipped over the first few books in this series because I don’t particularly enjoy romance stories that span several novels. That said, I’m happy that I picked up Imperfect.
The characters’ imperfections are what make them a perfect pairing. Jamie is a former Navy Seal who lost his sight in a severe explosion while serving his country. Frustrated by his family hovering, Jamie moves out to live on his own. It is clear, though, that Jamie is still a lethal and dangerous man despite his injuries. Above all else, Jamie is a protector, which becomes more evident as he gets closer to Molly.
Molly is strong in her own right out of a toxic relationship and dealing with her own injuries from a life-threatening disease. She’s spent the last 12 months rebuilding her life as a single woman, all while dealing with an obsessive ex-husband. Molly has an inner strength that never wavers, which defiantly made this a good read. It was also my most significant source of displeasure with this book.
Despite continual proof that Jamie was more than capable of taking care of himself, both his family and Molly always try to make his life easier. I won’t go into Jamie’s family here. But with Molly, this manifests in a push and pull between the couple that I just couldn’t enjoy. Molly would get close to Jamie, and something would remind her of her obsessive ex, and she would pull away.
This happened so often that there came the point where I almost couldn’t stand the character. Especially since Molly’s reasoning was always that she wanted to ‘protect Jamie’ even though Jamie has shown that he was more than capable. It showed Molly’s lack of faith in Jamie’s skills and capabilities I didn’t enjoy.
This book is a lovely light afternoon read. I read and reviewed this as a standalone and not as a part of the larger series. I’m not sure if I’ll be reading any more of this series, but I’ll defiantly be more from April Wilson.
I love Jamie. He is just amazing. The only thing was annoying about this story was everyone’s thinking Jamie couldn’t take care of himself. He knew his limits and asked for help when needed. But his physical prowess as a SEAL can’t be challenged. They challenge them and train them to fight without senses. Him being blind didn’t change anything. And when molly would doubt him or anyone else. It got old after awhile. I was glad when Jamie would hop in the ring and show off to prove those wrong. Molly had her own insecurities about her scars. And it was deserved. They both built trust and it was lovely to see them be each other’s safety net. Love Jamie. He has always been a fave of mine. I miss Sam.
Wow! After completing Imperfect, I had to sit and let Jamie’s and Molly’s story sink in and absorb all the emotions that April Wilson had flowing through my body at an alarming rate. I absolutely adore the McIntyre tribe and am always happy to be back in their fold again when I begin another of their fictional journeys, but never did I expect Imperfect to be so profound and hit my heart so hard and pack such a powerful emotional punch! April delves deep into many touching subjects with this story that a reader can’t help but be left stunned and speechless. While Imperfect still contains much suspense and sexual tension that leaves the reader panting, April Wilson gives us such a huge piece of herself and her personal experience that you can’t help but to feel closer to her and in awe of her as a writer and a woman.
Jamie McIntyre is absolutely fascinating in all his former Navy Seals, “I’m not going to let blindness stop me” glory. I am left completely awestruck and impressed with his unwavering strength whether he is showcasing his prowess in the ring, protecting those he loves, or showing Molly her beauty both inside and out. I have never seen a hero that has drawn me in more with his sunny disposition even when all he sees is darkness. Jamie has me so in love that I am beside myself, stumbling over my own feet for this hero. I don’t know what it is about these McIntyre men but they keep me salivating and blushing like crazy!
Molly Ferguson can see beauty in life and can create it on any type of canvas but after viewing herself through her ex husband’s eyes, she cannot see her own beauty. It isn’t long into Molly’s story that I can see all of the scars and strength that make her so unique and fascinating and leave us in awe of her stunning presence which is more than skin deep. I have never met a heroine that gets knocked down by life so violently yet she still gets up and fights. Her bravery makes me weep and pierces my heart.
April Wilson delivers a book that is so thought provoking and hits you deep in so many places, that the story will forever be embedded in your heart. April Wilson never fails to impress me with her story telling skills but she has truly out done herself with Jamie and Molly’s romance. I cannot wait to step back into the McIntyre world and get a front row seat to the hotness between Cooper and Sam. Go ahead April bring it on! We are ready to experience all the feels, the danger, and the unquenchable desire! (
Author gives a realistic perspective in this book. Love the characters.
Loved this POV writing style and learning the back story of Jamie and Molly. Since we learned about things that would happen to these characters in the previous book, I missed some of the anticipation that April Wilson usually has in her books.
