I have had this book on my kindle forever and now I’m kicking myself for not reading it sooner. Absolutely fabulous!!! The only problem is that I have added four new guys to my harem and yet another girl bff.
This was an entirely new and original take on mages and colourful magick. I couldn’t put the book down. Now on to book two.
Why!?! This book is great and Mori’s story will draw you in. Walker, Remi, Levi, and yes even Kai(although I’d like to smack him upside the head). This is just book one and while I didn’t know it ended in such a despairing way I can’t blame the writer. She leaves you begging for more.
Ready for book 2 please!
Mori is an ordinary girl with ordinary dreams…. until the day she finds herself in a dungeon being tortured every night when she falls asleep. Fast forward three years – her violent dreams now include a mysterious man who may be real – or is he? It seems that Walker is also being tortured every evening, and only Mori can take away his pain.
What happens when one not so ordinary girl gets involved with 4 mysterious men to find the source of her magic, and free the man who haunts her dreams? You’ll need one stray cat, lots of iced coffee, and something to fan yourself with as these engaging characters go on a road trip to save one of their own… and try not to fall in love…. or lust… along the way.
Walker is my husband. Sorry, everyone. But he’s mine.
(Read through Kindle Unlimited) So, this book is the debut novel from this author. What to say? The story was brilliant. There’s a book-hangover-inducing cliffhanger at the end, but I read this a bit late, as book 2 was releasing, so I binged these two books over two days.
The hangover is rough, but don’t let that stop you from reading it. It’s a fantastic book. The attention to detail and the style in which the book is written captivates from the beginning. It’s hard for me to comment on world building when it comes to paranormal romance books (and I would say this is PNR), because largely it’s based in the real world; it’s not high fantasy. Ultimately, the work needed to create a brand new world, culture, people, history, etc just isn’t the same for PNR as it is for a high fantasy novel, where a world building comment would be more relevant. That said, there’s a certain subtlety to the details in this book that actually make you wonder if it could be true. I mean, we know it isn’t, but the author has done well to weave a secret culture/society/people into what would be hard to hide in this day and age. ]
Then, there’s the relationships that Mori builds while she’s trying to navigate this world that she knows nothing about. All the guys are very different, and they fit different facets to Mori’s personality. What’s more, nothing feels forced. I hate that in a book – when relationships, dialogue, interactions feel forced for the sake of moving the plot or relationships along. There’s none of that in this book; it develops organically. It’s not insta-love in every case. Personally, I would say this is medium burn, if that’s what you’re interested. There are some very hot and sexy scenes, but there’s not tons, and it doesn’t happen straight away.
Honestly, this book is so good, and since book 2 is already out, whether you buy it or KU borrow it, just get both of them at once. You will carry onto book 2; you won’t be able to stop yourself.
Mori rocks! Her world is completely turned upside down by some mysterious guys entering her life and realising that the tortuous dreams she has are real. Mori rolls with the punches, and I like how she challenges the guys. I can’t wait to see how the relationships continue to develop. Plus Trash – what a great cat! The story does end with a cliffhanger, so hopefully book 2 is out soon!
This book was absolutely amazing! Full of action, adventure, goals, romance, steam, everything, this is definitely one of my favorites to come out this year. The world building and character development was fantastic and at the perfect pace. Each character is unique and very easy to tell apart without even needing their names. They have a common mission that forces them together in the beginning and the comedic relief is perfect. It is great learning alongside the main character about magic and mages and the whole new world that invades her life.
I was looking forward to checking out what a new author can do and I can honestly say that she blew me away. This is her first book and her writing already exceeds that of some seasoned writers I have come across, which I don’t normally say about someone’s first book. The dialogue, the descriptions, the interactions, it is all so well done so you feel like you’re right there in the book and you just can’t put it down until you finish. This is definitely a binge read kind of book and I enjoyed every moment of it.
This new author is a force to be reckoned with!
