Anomalies. Abnormals. Curiosities. Freaks. Threats. The Conditioned bear many labels, heavy restrictions, intolerable scorn, and unforgiving laws. For thirty years they have been consigned to regulation behind the walls of safe houses and camps. The Conditioned have no rights. They are not people. They are the damned. The heir apparent to the Wade Corporation, Addison Wade has lived her life wary … life wary of the institutions incarcerating the Conditioned and all they represent. A woman of secrets, she turns to Safe Dawn, and the Conditioned it houses, in a desperate hour. Her nephew has been kidnapped and she is desperate and out of options. She will do anything, even risk her secrets, to get him back.
Spencer Lewis is well-known as a locator, there is no one he can’t find and he has a soft spot for missing children—even children with the despised last name of Wade. Following the death of his partner and anchor, tackling this case threatens more than Spencer’s sanity and safety—it threatens his heart.
In a world where nothing is as it seems and threats lurk around every corner, Addison and Spencer must learn to trust each other. Does their relationship stand a chance in a world that wants them dead for just being born?
Please note this book was previously published under another name. and another series name. It has been extensively re-edited and much of the story has changed. But, if you feel this sounds similar to something you’ve read, you may have read it. Please also note that the author suggests you always read the forwards in her books before reading the book for information about things that may or may not be triggering for you.

The first book in the Illicit Minds a great start to this series, I want to read the next book. I received an Arc of this book and I am voluntary reviewing.
Fantastic
Wow completely had me hooked within first chapter….couldn’t put it down at all …. completely new me away and a great way to start what looks to be a great series that I’m going to love can’t wait for book 2
The author has created an interesting world that feels like it could be real. The story was compelling and towards the end I couldn’t put it down. It will be interesting to see what happens next.
Such and unbelievably, amazing story!! Once I started I couldn’t bear to put this book down. I was completely intrigued and on the edge of my seat. Addison and Spencer are perfect. Neither character being what you think they will be. Being conditioned is like a death sentence. You are held as a prisoner. Children are taken from families. When Addison’s nephew goes missing she will do whatever is necessary to find him. I can’t wait for the next book.
The condition had now hit the free nation giving children the ability to do things normal kids and people couldn’t and shouldn’t be able to do. People were now scared calling it evil. So that was when the kids with the conditions was removed from homes and parents then lost all freedoms as a citizen or humans
Addison Wade is 26 years old and being trained tttaked over wade Corp. Her nephew has been kidnapped and the only person who can help her find him is a man with the Condition Called Spencer Lewis. He is able to dark space walk. To find people who have been lost.
It’s an amazing story filled with action, mystery, betrayal, awesome characters, and so much more. I loved it and couldn’t put it down. Don’t miss it. Voluntarily review a copy and I honestly loved it
I think the author is off to a really good start in building this world. I like the dynamic of the two MC. How they had different perspectives on the conditioned. The relationship did move fast after she decided she loved him.
I like the addition of Roman and Tara. They made great side characters and added great personality to the book.
The ending had some huge ripple that happened because of it so I’m looking forward to seeing how that’s going to play out in book 2
Oh this author has done it to me again with having me snared into another series that was oh so ensnaring to read. Because of the originality of this one you are sucked in right away. Funny though when you need something you always turn to that which you do not understand or in awe of secretly.
Addison and Spencer will wrap around us in this one with in the heart of it a child. That alone will get most people paying attention. The emotions and tension already being high the stakes make for dangerous. You get so caught up in this you will loose time. When you finally get to the end of this you will wonder what just happened.
Desparate to find her nephew, Addison Wade enters the one place that could threaten her well-being. Safe Dawn houses the conditioned, and the only ‘person’ who can help her, Spencer Lewis. Known for tracking missing children, he is her last hope.
The last thing either of them expect is to fall for each other, the consequences devastating if they are found out.
Worse is the secret Addison has kept from everyone all her life, especially her Grandfather who was one of those that initiated the institutions for the ‘Conditioned’. All she knows is she has find her nephew and put an end to all of this.
With Spencer and some of the other’s help just maybe they can do this.
A suspenseful, emotional and satisfying read.
I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
Addison Wade has been raised among one of the wealthiest and well known families in America. The only person she loves more than life is her four year old nephew Jeffrey. As her parents and beloved sister are dead, other than her nephew her overbearing grandfather is the only immediate family. Too bad he has COMPLETELY different ideals than she. In their world are “normal” people and the Conditioned. Those that are Conditioned have varying extraordinary powers and are treated as property. Held in shelters that are more like prisons, they have no rights. Her grandfather feels they are not even human. ..what would he do if he learned her greatest secret…. That she herself is Conditioned?! When her nephew vanishes in the middle of the night and grandfather doesn’t do everything in his power to locate him, Addy knows what SHE must do. She goes to Safe Dawn, the nearest place housing Conditioned. It is there she seeks someone known to help find people. Spencer is a man of legend, and many fear him. All Addy knows is she WILL get her nephew back if it kills her. Here begins her adventure, for Spencer is meant to meet her. What can they accomplish together? Who is behind taking Jeffrey? What conspiracy is behind the Conditioned? Secrets uncovered, love found, oodles of action, betrayal and all our craziness! At the center is one fierce woman willing to fight for herself, a little boy, all things right and fair, and everything and anyone she comes to care about. I can’t wait for the follow up!!!
DA-HAM! This book just hit it out of the park for me. I have been a fan of Rebecca Royce. But this just put her on the top of the list. I don’t know if the intent was there when she wrote the book, but I could so see something like this happening. Where the rich and powerful segregate a class of people based on fear of them in the US. There is so much more to the story and its impact. I really enjoyed the world and vision that was built of a future where people had skills and powers and how they used them to survive. The romantic angle was interesting and fun with Addison Wade and Spencer Lewis. Throw in the mystery and chase of finding Addison’s nephew to keep the story running. I can’t wait to read more and see if the rest of the world agrees with what is happening or stands with the brewing rebellion.
I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
This was a great book !
Addison has a secret that she is not willing to share.
When her nephew is kidnapped, she might not have a choice.
Spencer is called to locate the child.
As they work together, emotions run high.
Will they be able to put their differences aside to find the child ?
Loved the characters + the storytelling !
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
No spoilers of any kind included.
Oh my goodness Illicit Senses was absolutely amazing!
Addison and Spencer’s story was a fantastic beginning of the Illicit Minds series.
I can’t wait until Illicit Connections is here because I am really looking forward to more of this series.
So it’s going to be a big HECK YEAH I most definitely do recommend this book but I absolutely loved it and I think you will too.
I really liked this story and all of the characters. It started a little slow for me, but by chapter thee I couldn’t stop. The characters are so realistic and likable. Even though their connection is relatively quick, it still seemed believable. I liked the introduction of the other characters and the storyline. The ending was great, as well. I just wish the next book was about these characters. I want to see more of their world. I know they will show up and Ms. Royce never lets us down. But, they’re so good!
Illicit Senses (Illicit Minds Book 1) Kindle Edition
by Rebecca Royce
I received a complimentary advance review copy and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This has to be one of my favorite Rebecca Royce series starters. Much like the X-Men, the Conditioned are powered people who are persecuted by Draconian laws implemented by regular humans out of fear. The Conditioned are controlled by rules laid down by a shadowy, manipulative group called the Council, where Addison Wade’s father holds all the power. Until her nephew is kidnapped. Then she is forced to hire Spencer Lewis to help her find him, against the wishes of her authoritarian father.
The characters, from Addison and Spencer (the heroes) to the villains have amazing depth with intricate pasts that formed them. But their backstories aren’t the sole factor in their lives nor the sole focus of the storytelling.
Twists and turns, zigs and zags and conspiracies and grudges drive the plot without leaving the most important pieces of this story behind, the characters and their desires.
All of the above don’t match the masterful writing. Ms. Royce is now and has always been a master craftswoman. She paints images with her talented words. That talented can best be seen in the way she is able to shift the storytelling duties between Addison and Spencer. At no point was I ever confused who was telling the tale. The characterizations are just that good.
This is an awesome story, well-told that I highly recommend. I can’t wait for the next book.
