Winner of the 2002 Christianity Today Book Award! You’re One Step Away from the Adventure of Your Life. Deep within you lies the same faith and longing that sent Peter walking across the wind-swept Sea of Galilee toward Jesus. In what ways is the Lord telling you, as he did Peter, “Come”? John Ortberg invites you to consider the incredible potential that awaits you outside your comfort zone. Out … Out on the risky waters of faith, Jesus is waiting to meet you in ways that will change you forever, deepening your character and your trust in God. The experience is terrifying. It’s thrilling beyond belief. It’s everything you’d expect of someone worthy to be called Lord. The choice is yours to know him as only a water-walker can, aligning yourself with God’s purpose for your life in the process. There’s just one requirement: If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat.

If you have a willingness to take a risk and are ready to get out of your safe comfort zone, this is a book that will challenge and inspire you. Don’t get me wrong, it might make you uncomfortable – uncomfortable enough to make a difference in the lives of those around you!
I read this book a couple of years ago and I go back and read some sections often. This reading change my perspective on taking action and Trusting the Lord . This book is one of my lifetime favorites
This book took a little longer than normal for me to get through because it was that good, good in a way that challenged me to think and act differently. John Ortberg communicates with a touch of humor and compassion, encouraging readers to dare to seriously consider what he’s saying. He gently leads the way with no condemnation. This is a book I think most Christians would find useful and hope-filled with a touch of adventure for the more cautious among us.
Highly readable and inspirational.
Always enjoy reading Ortberg’s books. He mixes humor with wisdom
Very good book. I first read it a while back and used it for a book/bible study group. Everyone enjoyed it!
Read this several years ago and found it enlightening and encouraging?
I am not a fan of the “catchy phrase” repeated as often as possible. I was rolling my eyes by the end.
Very helpful encouragement
This is a faith building book. Very inspiring!
One of my favorite books. Provided a realistic way to change by accepting our frailties but to stop excusing them.
Great thought provoking book!
Made me cry and reach deep into my inner self, challenged me to to become more committed.
I took a Bible study class on this book and it was very informative. There were Questions that went along with it and I learned a lot.
GReat book for men.
Wonderful read that inspires!
This is an inspiring book that talks about overcoming fear and inertia in your life. I really enjoyed going through it, and I am actually rereading it now to make sure I got all the lessons.
Gets you going! If you need inspiration, this is it!!
great study
It provides a provocative challenge to a person’s faith. Christians are quick to diminish Peter’s faith when he falters as he walks on water toward Christ. However, he is the only one of the 12 disciples who has faith enough to get out of the book. Pastor Ortberg uses this observation to encourage the reader to deepen their faith in practical ways.
